Alright guys I'm pretty sure i'm gonna go ahead with this :)

Would anyone recommend their mechanic for a job like this? I'm not sure what kind of mechanic i should be looking for... from what i know its just a straightforwared engine swap, with an engineers cert needed. I am going to consult the RTA about this btw... but i need some mechanic advice... needs to be in sydney, preferably in sutherland shire.

Would like to do exhaust too, maybe cat and probably post-cat piping. not extractors (would have to get them custom made, and i don't think they would suit me). Who would you recommend for cheap but quality exhaust work? :)

And if anyone else has thoughts/suggestions on anything i am all ears, i want to do this right!! :)

Tip for your conversion: Do everything properly and dont cut corners! In otherwords don't use cheap parts or cheap Business/Mechanics

Exhaust for good price - unique autosports at Castle Hill. They might possibly be able to do your engine, as they are grey importers of Jap cars. I'd have no probs recommending them, they're professional and seem to do the job well. Something stuffed up when they were doing my exhaust and offered me a car if i needed one for the night. Was just a nice gesture, but its more than most would do for u. I had a friend who had a lot done to a S14 and he was happy as well.

Whatever you do, dont get your exhaust done at the shop next to Cyber Motorsports. I had my first one done there and it was ****house. Ill show you the pics of where the cat sheared off the engine pipe if your not convinced.

Naaaasty.

Second one was fitted by the guys at South Coast Rotary. Recommend them as fitters but they are in wollongong so whether you want to travel that far is another question. Considering fuel costs, It will be the same to have it done by Bay Mufflers @ Sans Souci. I was quoted $800 for cat back replacment, stainless 2.5" with dual tips and muffler to suit.

Engine wise, try the Jap place at kirrawee. I was going to ask them about the engine anyway as I may be looking at dropping it into a 94 BA Hatch. Although I have now found reasonable priced insurance for a turbo motor... so the tables turn again. You can get it put it and wired up across the highway at the place Mal got his turbo engine put in.

Dunno the name of the joint... Mal will know.

There are also heaps of jap dudes in the tempe area and also out towards cabramatta/liverpool.

Get a good clutch. Change all belts including timing belts if
possible. Not sure if the V6 has the same issue as the 4 with
the need to change timing belt around 100k. Drop the sump
and look at the bearings for wear and cams for wear.

Mal

Thanks for the advise guys. Of course i will do the timing belt, and water pump. what other belts should be done?

BTW i already have the clutch lined up - daikin heavy duty

kirawee sounds pretty damn good... whats the name mal? is it on the highway? near maccas i spose?

you guys are awesome, thanks for advise :)

Think Jimbo means Just Jap.
If not try SSS or Ichiban for the motor.

Just Jap is the name of the importer dude. They are at:
101 Bath Rd Kirrawee NSW 2232

Whats the name of the dude that dropped the motor in.

Let me know what they say about the motor. I need to go and talk to then about it anyway. Might do it tomorrow eh Mal.

Did you get to go by there today? i couldnt make it, tomorrow hopefully.

If they only have one LK-ZE i'm gonna be pissed (if you buy it that is :) )

The engine only is $1200. They goto japan every 6wks or so and the dude said it was not an issue to source one. $2200 for a half cut IIRC.

BPT is going for $1000 for the engine. $1200 w/ jap comp and afm. $1500 for a halfcut.

You can have it put in just up the road at Shire Automotive. Its like 4 doors up from the Jap joint.

P.S He had BPTs on the floor but no KLs so im assuming you will have to wait anyway :)

Hey dudes,

Since I'm going to have to recondition my engine soon anyway I was thinking "Why don't I just drop a KL-ZE in there instead??"...

Who ever does this conversion first, you HAVE to make a tutorial of how you managed it because I would really love to do this myself... Hopefully I'll be able to find a engine at a wreckers for under $1G...

Just out of interest, does anyone know if you'll need to change the engine mounts to fit the 2.5 V6 into the 2.0 V6? Will you need to use the KL-ZE headers, or can you use the 2.0 V6 ones?

Cheers peoples :D

Externally the engines are exactly the same, KL just has a bigger bore and longer stroke than the K8 making it a 2.5L. the engine should bolt straight up, only problem you will have is closing the bonnet because the KLZE intake manifold is "taller" thean the k8 one, this can be overcome by using the KLZE out of the milenia which is the same motor again but has a lower intake manifold to clear the lower bonnet, if you cant source the whole motor just buy any ze and try source the IM, try an IM of the 03 i reckon it would fit ive got a spare on my car if need be :)

Oh and being a 323 you will need the ze ecu.

There were heaps of variations of KL's made from the 1.8L k8 to the ze, dont be fooled and buy a KL03 or KFZE make sure your getting the real deal.

The KFZE is the upgraded version of the 2.0 V6 looks exactly like the klze but has 30hp less, just check the engine numbers before you buy it and you should be fine.

Thanks for the tipoff guys, justjap only want $2200 for a front cut! which is less than i have been quoted for just the engine at some places!

And local too! its like a dream come true!

Can someone tell me, Will a mechanic charge as much for labour for taking the engine out of the front cut as they would for taking the engine out of a complete car?

That means i'll be paying for:

Engine out of FC
Engine out of my car
Engine in to my car

Thats going to be about $500 each way, plus labour on other stuff... god i hope it is an easy drop in cause its starting to push the budget... but who cares! i'll be doing it after my 21st (august 12) so hopefully will have lots of goodies and such for my birthday :)

Dont you have a V6 already? You should only need the engine, wiring harness and possibly the ecu but i think the std v ecu will run the kl-ze just not to its full potential.

Chronos

Well apparently i need VAF aswell, and I would like the ZE ECU... as well as the gearbox (don't want to have any troubles)

I was quoted $1700 for just engine from the same place... i think i'd rather fork out the extra money and be on the safe side... depends how the budget pans out and how much money i can save up i spose :)

Yeah its only $500... Prob save you a few grand later on.

Hey guys....

Instead of getting a KL-ZE ECU I was thinking of keeping my current 2l V6 ECU and using an Apexi AFC. That way I could dyno tune my car without swapping the ECU's 8)

Is there any reason apart from tuning to get the KL-ZE ECU if I get an AFC?

hey chronos..

I just had a KL-ZE (well, is actually a DE, got ripped off, but that's another story) installed in my Eunos 30X... Ben from Port Hacking Automotive did it for me.

As far as I know, the actual physical swap itself will be exactly the same as mine, so I reckon he'd be interested in doing it, plus he has a dyno onsite..

I am in Gymea Bay so you can shoot me an email and we could meet up or and have a chat or something if you like..

I don't come on this site much so your best bet is to email me.. - eunosads@optushome.com.au

Not sure if this has already been shown. Someone has made a website showing the steps in which he took to do the conversion (MX-3)

http://www3.sympatico.ca/luc.tremblay27/

just click on the engine link then go to the conversion part.

Brad.
