Under certain circumstances, I will need to get a second car and have shortlisted to the Mazda6.
I know that one or two members here do own one and would like to know what price shoud I start bargaining at? I'm looking at the Luxury Hatch Sport which retails for $47k OTR (ouch!)
Also, does anyone knows how much a car dealer make from selling a new vehicle?

That is a very short list! HAHA!!
I don't know about the margins on new cars but try haggling and getting as many "extras" thrown in as possible. Little things like floor mats, premium slimline number plates, what ever you think you can get out of them. But only do this after you've agreed on a negotiated price. Good luck with it. You definately won't be disappointed.
If you have test driven a new one [ie only a few km's on the odo] you'll be more than happy in a few months when the car loosens up and feels like it unleashes more power! Just over the last week or 2, my Father has been saying that the 6 has really let loose! Heaps of fun.
Are you thinking of the manual or auto? I haven't driven the manual [as I really would love to do this] but you shouldn't be disappointed in the Activematic gearbox either. The flick of the stick to the left and using it like a manual is sweet. It's got a nice little growl too at around 6k! Hehehe.
Let us know how you get along.

Hi Adam,
The actual list was -
1) WRX hatch - too heavy on the premium and not so luxurious
2) Alfa 147 - What boot? Don't see any rear legroom
3) Alfa 156 - Slurp but cannot afford it
Have to settle with the M6.
I'll defnitely be asking for the mats, slim plates, full fuel tank, MING guard and hopefully the sport grille. Trying my luck at the outer suburbs like Ringwood or Mulgrave. May be desperate to visit Frankston too.

I would look at the subaru heritage on that list
Think of the extras that you could put on an XR6 with that! Sunroof, big wheels, all the gear, might even get some change from 47K after everythings done. You could even squeze and XR6 Turbo under that with some extras. Just my point of view - might be too big a car for you, I know I don't need a car that big. (still want one though). Check out www.fordxr6turbo.com
Might also think of the Focus ST170 or the Turbo Astra that are coming out.
Mazda 6 is a lovely car though! :D

Thought of those cars that you mentioned but they all seems to have low resale value. I seriously considered the Volvo S60 and the SAAB but service cost for continental cars are not cheap. The average major service cost for an Alfa is about $400 - $900. I believe the Mazda is about $500 at 40,000km.
The RX8 and 350Z are nice hotties but there are no boot space.
Will be off to the dealers tomorrow. Wish me luck. Hopefully, I can drive it to the next Melb meet again.
On the way to work this week, I saw a SP20 with an AstinaGT sticker along Trennery Cr in Abbotsford. I work there too. Who's that?
That's me!!! haha.
I work at Computershare at Trenerry cresent... woohoo! Which company do you work for?
As for Mazda6 prices... one of my best mates works at Ringwood Mazda. His name is Steve (tall, skinny guy)... his specialty is the 6... so tell him his mate Bill sent you down and he will 100% better any price you come up with from other dealers.
cheers,
Bill
