I started doing the CAI today on my car and i thought it would b like a one hour job hehe.. boy was i wrong.. after disconnecting the air box and removing the top half completley, i took off the bottm part by undoing some bolts.. then i discovered that there was no way i could get a screwdriver from the top to undo some clamps.. so i pulled out all the underneath plastic protection... once a little bit of the stock pipe was off i discovered another 1 going to a whiteish box and another goin up to behind the headlight but like way back from it.. really dodgy and small intake with no flow.. and the box is designed soo gayish with air flowing in then doin a loop and so on.. to get that off i cut the hose after removing the wheel arch guards.
hmm seemed to be stuck to the box in another place so after about 1 hour of pulling and fidgeting trying not to break the aircon pipes by the look of it, i decided fire was the best option :D hehe got my lighter n melted the connecting bits n then pulled them appart.. as i don plan on using them again i didnt care but they came off in 3 pieces :D.. n then i put in my new induction kit (blue) and fed it to the bottom part of airbox n it sits in the hole withe a bit of moding.. sounds good and flow is alot better..

why didnt you just take off the front bar?

it's not that hard - then again It was not the first intake removal on any car I have done.
but it's pain with out removing the fornt bar.
you used a lighter to install your CAI?
Ever heard of a screwdriver? Everything comes off eventually you know, you DONT have to burn it off.

yeah you has a small resinator box and then the pipe go back up the wheel arch and come out near the fuse box.
pull the bar off, its so much easier!

yer i was lookin at pullin the bar off.. but then again im not really sure how to do it.. i managed to do the install so its ok.. yer well hehe fire solves most things. as dodgy as it sounds it was just to melt the joints.. otherwise where there was a screw i did it properly. :p

LOL it's not that hard to remove the front bar.
Remove the headlights, undo the bolts underneath that hold the bumper in place, undo the bolt behind the parking light, undo the screw in the wheelarch , and undo the ones holding the wheel lines to the bumper.
You only need to undo one side if you're lazy.

thanks rupe il remember that next time.. i need to do some redirection as now its sucking from that hole next to thr right foglight.. wats that hole there for anyway?? it needs a bigger hole as the tube is 80mm ... As for your skip il get some pics up soon. i just got to figure a better attatchment to the bottom part of airbox as i did a quik rush job as it was bout 6pm and i needed the car to get to uni in mornin at 6am .
edit/ oh yer i can feel some slight pickup gain. the stoko 1 was dodgy as with like no cold air flow. and the sucking noise and and when u switch it off the lil prolonged suck noise sounds sweet.. whooooosshhhhhh

dude dude dude.. its just a $20 tubing o got from work.. i can easily get anoter 1.. i also found that just removing the stock tubing and having no tubing goin to the bottom of the airbox works well.

ill get to it before all of you do...
ohh and off topic here..but my boss was just in japan...HEAPS AND HEAPS OF BA HARDTOPS ROLLING INTO THE YARDS OVERTHERE...no shortage on parts...suposebdly theres that many of them there stacking them straight ontop of each other and nearly scrapping them...but itsgay no BGs or eunos 100s
project.r.racing
11-04-2006, 08:39 PM
yeah you can buy a BA for $50.00 in japan, only problem it the $3000 to import it into Australia and then it has to be cut in half to fit it into a container for transportation.

yeah, if i thought i could sell what i didn't want from a BA Ht, i'd do it. (for less that that, too!)

how much rupe? i wouldn't mind brakes, hubs, gearbox for starters
Rupewrecht
11-04-2006, 09:53 PM
you dont need to cut one in half to fit it in a container..
But you do if they're complete as otherwise customs thinks you want to register it and drive it.
but i think it was around 2k for a complete car to be cut and shipped. But i'd have to check again as that was a few months ago
So it'd have to be a BA11P2 1.8 or V6 then?

justget it complianced :p

G series gearbox + extras required to fit F series/series 3 car + V6 brakes/hubs. doesn't matter whether hatch or hardtop to me but i'm not chasing panels.
i guess hardtop V6 as has both parts required for both of us rupe as you are chasing panels
Rupewrecht
11-04-2006, 10:05 PM
Well you can't have both!
V6 G series has a different bellhousing to the 1.8 one, so you either get the box etc or brakes, not both.
project.r.racing
11-04-2006, 10:10 PM
argh now you just ruined it for me, but if i had to pick 1, it be the brakes!
Rupewrecht
11-04-2006, 10:16 PM
I'll see what i can do
hmm, only hatches atm.
but, you could use most of the V6 stuff - fron/top mounts, driveshafts and most of the gearbox. you can get the bellhousing side of the gearboc for about 600 new from memory.

hey sell your parts in your own thread :p
why in half.. i dont see cars cut in half at import places. and my friends R34 seemed to be in 1 piece when we picked it up... just wondering cant you just private import it?

hehe, cutting cars in half with chainsaws would be fun, especially if they were hyundias hahaha :D :D
just like bart simpson knocking down buildings when lisa gets married lol

because the taxes on importing arnt small change ... if you import a whole car the customs thinks you are going to register it (like you mates R34) so they charge accordingly.
if you slice the car in half then it obviousy can not be registered meaning the car is only parts and there is a whole lot less tax :)

iw ill have every thing to do with the v6 gearbox, clutch cylnders, pedals, every thing, this may make converting to a manual a bit more cheaper :D

the kfZe engine this way please, ECU too,
CVs would be nice,
if its 50 bucks for a BA, I wounder how much for a BG?
Are they giving them away for free?
Nate what ever happened to your idea of buying a parts car?
bourbon
12-04-2006, 04:08 PM
BGs are impossible to find over there...so are the EUNOS 100 which is exactly the same as the BGs
Rupewrecht
12-04-2006, 04:20 PM
BG Astinas are uber hard to find, but BG 3 and 4 doors are not as hard.
About all i see on the auctions are the odd set of taillights for the BG Astina really.

12-04-2006, 04:24 PM
dan, has nate told you all the chassis codes i found for the bg astina?
Rupewrecht
12-04-2006, 04:33 PM
nah, but i assume you mean BG5P etc
Love your avatar btw :D
CRA23
12-04-2006, 04:36 PM
well theres in the astina range
BG5P - 1.5L motor
BG6P - 1.6L motor
BG8P - 1.8L motor
in the eunos 100
BG5PE - 1.5L motor
BG8PE - 1.8L motor
when you said red panda in my readers ride that gave me the idea :D
Rupewrecht
12-04-2006, 04:40 PM
heheh i guess that was the case. That or it was bleeding :p
There's also the BG3's and the BG8Z and a few others i don't have in front of me
But it's better to search by Lantis etc - you get more results for the sellers that don't use the codes
CRA23
12-04-2006, 04:44 PM
yeah i have a word doc full of words in japanese, im slowly learning how to read it, i can read lantis, mazda, mazdaspeed, wheel
the bg8z is the famila gtx and gtr, theres heaps of bgs as there is so many different models, a diff code for sedan a diff code for 4wd models
Rupewrecht
12-04-2006, 04:47 PM
i've got the characters for lantis and familia that i use to search...but familia brings up 40+ pages of stuff! I've actually got a nice little translator that'll translate things like 'brakes' and other simple words that is quite useful.
Same with the BJs re 4wds - BJ5W/BJFWand and BJFP are just a few of them.

what if u cut in half so carefully and then like weld it back together :p wouldnt work would it lol.. haha weld the front of a hatch to the back of a hardtop or i think the front of a hardtop (its sexyer) to the back of a hatch.. (even though stock it has a high ass)
skippy

Can you cut it in half horizontally,
could be a great start to the first topless astina while keeping mechanics in working order.
