DW is the model family.

or like a BG 323

as far as i know those models had great engines, just look for one that has been service regularly as many owner were little old ladies that drove 10km a week or uni students that drove 1000km per week with no servicing at all.
the biggest problems you'll face is the bodies, these car were made before Mazda started zinc coating there panels like the BA 323, NP MX5 etc. so look at the bodywork also, alittle rust now could mean alot of work in 2 years.

before zinc coating?
the DW is the boxy one from 1996-2000, not the bubble one.
i would have thought that 1997+ would have had zinc coating?
be honest, do you think a 6' male could comfortably fit?
and not look effeminate?
EDIT:
just looked, these look VERY good with a nice set of wheels.

i like the pic of it with the black/chrome wheels next to the MR2.

I wouldn't call that effeminate ;)
I'd say you'd have no trouble fitting inside one, there's a lot of space inside them.

Do you think you would get a set of 18's on one with no major work? I have always liked the Demio shape.
Nice wheels, exhaust, and two 15's where the back seats should be! Perfect combo.

they do look dam good with a kit,
if your doing high hway kms could even consider dare I say it, hmm, ok just once a commonwhore, 6.5L per 100K is pretty hard to beat, that alomst doubles once you hit the city of course,
Re fit, they are fairly boxy so you should fit alright in the front, back is another story,

DW is zinc coated, oops my mistake, yeah go for it, they are an awesome car, heaps of cheap mods to make them run fast also. there is 1 that runs around brisbane with 150kW at the wheels.

A 6 foot guy can fit in them quite easily, the only problem I have with them is the amount of gutless effort the engine puts in to get you moving!

my car makes only 2kw more than a Metro 1.3.
and my car weighs 200kg more too.
i dont think i'll notice that much. :)
I dunno if its allready been said, but dont let astinaboi see it!

anyway, back to the main topic.
how do they feel on the highway?
smooth, comfortable, and planted.
or
crazy mad revving, bouncing all over the place, and wanting to explode in pain.
road/wind noise isnt an issue to me.
