Few progress pics of sorting everything out. Pics from couple days ago.

Once everything is finished and running mint as the engine and gearbox will be ripped out the car. Painting the engine bay and then the engine will be put back in, all nicely painted up with Speedflow lines and Chrome HPC coating. Will look all bling bling for a couple days hahaah - then its off to the drags.

Funny....
Its a GT2540 Turbo looks very at home there.

The Honda manifold welded up nicely will think of that if I ever redo my
manifold.

Whats with the bottom pic is the turbo dummied up on your old manifold or
do you have 2manifolds to choose from ???

Keep us posted never get tired of pics of your engine bay :)

Nah, that Manifold was not the right choice to chop up. Was a bit of a mission. Its getting there though. I should have done something different with the radiator though.

I think I understand now why GTXWGN did a highmount setup.
You guys dont have much room in there do you...

Its all running now. Its sweeet. Wastegate sounds like a jumbo jet coming in to land. That will get plumbed up soon.

Yeah, I'll need a tune up with new 550cc injectors. No point racing it now. But I'll be out there soon doing some huge burnouts on new LSD box.....YAY

nice set up to man. love the big ass turbo. u must have some serious sucksion on that thing hey. lol. love to see a picture of the hole engine bay to dude. nice work over all.

P.S. u may need some new tyres if u start doing burnouts everywhere due to the power in crease. ;) soz if i sound like a smart ass. that is not my intention.

I wish I could go, but I will be away with work blowing up mountains.

Still, need the money, and feild allowance is gooood.

back on topic:

Thats a meaty radiator too. I need to investigate in more cooling options, mines still overheating on the really long high RPM runs. I think removal of the aircon allowing more airflow to the radiator is in order.

And that turbo is HUGE! What lag do you expect on it?

QuicKSilveR
03-05-2006, 09:12 AM
Its not super responsive like the vf22 was but it still boosts OK. It starts spooling before 3000rpm and makes good boost at 4000rpm. It still pulls on low boost though. I've just purchased a new Turbosmart Plumback BOV and a Turbosmart Wastegate (at good price) - Both are deep blue to match the bay.

The radaitor works a treat. My car has been idling high at 1300rpm and the old radiator would overheat hard. The new one seems to hold its own even at this RPM and on the highway it cools bery well. (And all i have fitted to it is a little aricon can on the front (half of radaitor).......I can't fit a large one)

Few more things to do on the bay before it all gets pulled out.
Forged Pistons are paid for and ordered.
GTR Rods have arrived
LSD and Short Ratio Gears are ready to rumble, just waiting to order a straight cut 3rd gear.

Just have to buy all the other engine internal bits - Bearings, Metal Head Gasket etc.

...and some street slicks before jambo (oneday some new suspension)

good work ryan ... will be interesting to see it out on track :)

I just noticed your radiator plumbing in the last pics awesome work there. The
turbosmart progate and BOV will add that little bit more to an already amazing
bling bling bay. Have to ask is the oil relocation filter bolted down. I want to
do this next and looking at places in my bay to add it to and I would never have
thought of where you have added it. How have you bolted it down.

There is a bolt that sticks out from the chassis rail. Its bolted to that.

BigMal
04-05-2006, 04:36 PM
Thanks. Next time you take some pics wouldn't mind if you could take one to
show how its bolted down. Did you put it there for cooling reasons or to show off
the speedflow fittings and braided. I am umming about relocating the battery to
the boot and mounting it in that space or more likely putting it against the firewall
beside the battery and moving the carbon canister down out of the way.

QuicKSilveR

It was up where the battery/fuse box was but had issues nad it leaks oil when you change it. You can't see it now

Ian
05-05-2006, 01:02 PM
Hmm, not wanting to sound negative, but isent 4k a bit late for full boost? What do you plan to rev the engine out too?

Nate
05-05-2006, 01:29 PM
think about what he uses his car for and before and after revs when changing gear ;)

QuicKSilveR
08-05-2006, 08:25 AM
Yeah, but full boost will be over 20psi not some 12psi. And it is pulling harder just coming onto boost than a vf10 will ever be on full boost.....from 1psi to 5psi its already starting to pull.

Anyhow my outlet silicon on the Turbo was leaking (blew off the other day). Now with that secure and the AVCR plugged in, its coming on ALOT harder. It still pulls hardcore.

Driving around the streets it has enough power (no max boost) but when you put the foot down it really winds up (the ball bearing is great).

I like turbos that are laggy around the streets but really responsive when you give it stick.

Engine is getting a Balance with forgies and gtr rods so hopefully it can take some revs.

Yes knowing what I know now I would never bother with a VF8/VF12 and just
save up for the Garrett BB. Its been one of the most rewarding mods I have
ever done since turboing the car. I also totally agree that 0 boost on the
Garrett is like 5-7psi on the VF8 its amazing and oh so responsive.
