Has anyone noticed with the air getting alot colder these days the performance of their car improving??? i don't even have CAi and it seems alot more responsive... i work @ nite.. so i'm driving when the air is really cold.. (4am in the morning) so is it just me or is the cold air helping me get home quiker :?:

Nah Brad you're 100% correct even on a stock un-tweaked engine a cool supply of air will give an improvement in performance. It's got a lot to do with various laws of thermodynamics, gas laws and stuff like that....
Reasech by racers many years ago sort of cooked (sorry) up a rule of thumb that in a turbo motor every degree you can get the intake temperature down is worth about 1hp. I don't know the 'kick in' point for this though.....

How much does a CAI cost? and would it fit into a V6 lantis easily? hmm...

Removal of front bar and removal of res box ~ cost nothing but heartache and keep your headlights away from critter!
AG Pipe ~ cheap!
Replacement filter ~ doesn't have to be done straight away, but you'll want to do it, I do! Can't afford it yet but want to!
Have got cheapest price on the K&N panel filter at $90 delivered.
A few hours of your time on the weekend.
Jynx has done his so he has experience, just keep him away from your airbox with that purple fibreglass...........
*runs from thread laughing insanely*
Yeah, what KittyKat said.
Only cost is the ag pipe, some of your time and the will to hack the bar - HACK THE BAR!!!.
Seeing as you're a sydneysider you can probably speak nicely to Jynx and steal some of his otherwise the best price we found was $45 for 10m of the stuff.
Quite easy to do to a V6 as the 100mm ag pipe fits straight over the outside of the current intake hole in the airbox.
The only effort is getting the front bar off and then manhandling the res box and piping out of where they are - had to unbolt an air conditioning pipe bracket. but its not all that difficult just takes a little bit of time. 8)

Give us a buzz and we could probably do a mini CAI day
in my garage in Sutho. Did a mini polishing day yesterday
was all fun if not a little on the sore side afterwards.

95% sure
gonna have to put a deposit down for the frontcut soon - takes up to 7 weeks for delivery (they take photo's in japan and i select the vehicle (or part thereof :) ) that i want), so if i want to have it all ready by auguest or september i better get my act together :)

Hey all,
Just new here. I just finished of work on the intake on my 323. I think 2002 onwards are the same. There is a hole just near the air box perfect for feeding some ag through, then all u need is a pod filter and some arcrylic to make up a divider and hey presto. Throttle response is way better as for top end no idea but it does force in heaps more air. Ill get some pics up soon.

Hiya mazdaguy0
Congrats on the intake! Am sure you will love it.
I am now keen to set up intake on my Miata... not keen to cut a hole in the back wall of the engine bay though....
Anyone have any thoughts? I have been reading Miata.net and done google searches.... I am just not at all confident about this......
Cheers

Search for a guy called Loch Stewart in QLD. Makes all these parts for
the MX5 that are all dyno tested and are very much raved about. He
does an intake mod.

Check for vacuum leaks. I found that my car had one and would bog down
on initial takeoff and then scream. It would also cause the car the hunt a
bit on idle as the car tried to adjust for the extra air.
Hope this helps. Make sure you also change all filters and spark plugs so that
you are testing with a freshly serviced engine so as not confuse the true cause.

Loch Stewart is famous in Miata circles!
His air intakes also require cutting the back wall of the engine bay though....
AND
Unfortunately it is expensive stuff :(
