oh, and Jynx's AG pipe!!!
There are many of us talking in the performance thread about organising a CAI Day.
So let's get it sorted like rupe does.
If the Melbournian's can get it truly organised, then we Canberran's *cough cough choke choke* can surely do it too!
(joke fella's)
A good chance to get together, a bit of a meet and greet, drool over the cars, and have a laugh or two....
WhatdayaSay??????

What if we make it Saturday 3rd May, then take a drive to Sydney to see Auto Salon...
Can make it Sunday for you ABC if you are sailing..... but then I can't go to Sydney.
Or even a non pressure weekend like 10-11th May...
That way, we can organise a place, the parts and the time properly.
Better to get it right the first time?
I am more than flexible.
As long as it isn't too far into June when Rego is due...

OK, so the 10th & 11th of May look like a goer at this stage...
and it's even a pay week for me! :)
Jynx me mate me pal.... fancy a drive to good ole Canberra with that AG pipe of yours?
How about you o-lym-pic? Any other Sydney AstinaGT members? Pick yourself up some Pr0n and some Fireworx while you're at it, and say g'day to the Canberra members.
And besides ABC, who else from the Canberra Connection is interested?
Lantis?
Zoom?
CEPAT?
Nupes?
Vegitto?
JJ?
astina?
bRaDiNhO?
Any of the girls care to join us?
Any others I have forgotten?
Lets get some numbers together and maybe throw together a bit of a BBQ as well?
Decide on a location, tools and get together a

JJ will be in for a BBQ. He's not often on the forums but he's a good mate of mine. Even though he has a '92 model he'll come for a laugh and a stickybeak. :D[/color:post_uid0]

I'd like to come down to get some CAI and meet afew people on here. You people don't bite do u?
Wouldn't mind topping up my fireworks supply :D
so is it the 10th or 11th ???
Brad[/color:post_uid0]
Ill probably come down if we get a weekend im not working. Big Mal, Theo and Mick are possibilites but ill let them commit themselves.
Ill bring pipe and a spanner set which is all we really need to install the stuff. Oh and a hack saw and some big ass cable ties.
Ill try and do mine before we come down, I am still uncertain what diameter pipe i can get, it will be the biggest available so modifications to the air box may be required. Some people may not like modifying the air box so I suggest you either get a second hand one or make somthing to suit.
As long as you have cold beer and a bbq im sure youll get a pretty good turn out. Us sydney siders might make a weekend of it... depends on work i guess.
Did I hear someone say CASINO?
Edit: Get a fixed date so I can request the weekend off.[/color:post_uid0]

Hey this looks like it's gonna be a lot of fun!!!
I will take votes on who prefers the Saturday or the Sunday, but figure if people from Sydney (or Melbourne HINT HINT) want to make purchases maybe we could make it Saturday?
When I suggested location for doing work on cars and BBQ, I have to admit I wasn't thinking my place because I live on the top floor of a block of units. There are public BBQ's everywhere including some real nice ones at Telopea Park close to town etc, but don't know if that is a good spot to be working on cars.
Do we have any Canberra Lads volunteering some driveway space? Am happy to do more than my fair share to help put together a great day for all, but just don't have the premises for it :(
And if everyone that wants to participate has a preference for which day, can you say so please, otherwise we will make it the Saturday. At least that way, if we are short on time or something, there is still Sunday for us locals to get it all together, if you know what I mean?????
Methinks I had better start a list....
And on another note, I don't think I have passed any other AstinaGT members yet, but I am lookin' for ya's :;): [/color:post_uid5]
Hey Vegitto I remember that - was a while ago though. Car kept bogging down off the line but yeah, the cars were pretty even.
Northbourne is definately the place to catch me. Llive up in Watson and work in Woden so its pretty much the only way to go. :([/color:post_uid0]
Its official, I have 10m of 100mm unslotted ag line. To fit this you will need to enlargen the intake hole on the bottom of the factory airbox.
I will more then likely be bringing a dremel so we need to be somewhere with power.[/color:post_uid0]
4" ag pipe - you go man - that's heap of air !!![/color:post_uid0]

11-04-2003, 01:16 AM
Just puller my front bar off!!! i'm so pround of myself... just practicing for canberra, almost grave up and was about to post on here... I CAN't DO IT!! but i got it.. what does ag. pipe look like??? would that silver stuff that's used as home airconditioning ducting work???
i'd preffer saturday...[/color:post_uid0]
plenty of breathing space i rekon. although i have to admit... i spent alot of time pondering whether i should use pvc instead to elimate the flow issues associated with ag line.
Price difference is considerable... Ag line is about $30/10m... PVC and fittings would come to about $50. Best thing about PVC however is that they make a 150mm pipe so thats an extra 2" of breathing space... wonder if it would fit through the chassi hole :)[/color:post_uid0]
I imagine that the flexible air conditioning duct would work but its best if you keep it as straight as you can because the inside diameter of the ducting is a lot smaller when its bent and the flexible bits collapse inward. I guess it would depend a lot on the stuff that you got though.
Saturday is good for me. :)[/color:post_uid0]
I spose you could say that with the flex/corrigated ag line it will be easier to fit, but the flow would all be screwed (trust me I did air flow stuff for uni) and the PVC gives laminar flow, which means pure flow into the engine. If you use Ag pipe, then it will be best off to have a wider pipe to reduce the ediie currents in the pipe that could actually start to reduce flow (comparatively).
Ahhgghhh - I just read that back to myself try again...
1. PVC Better becouse of laminar flow but harder to instal
2. Ag pipe easier to install but due to corrigations bad flow.
Soultion - User bigger ag pipe to help with flow or install pvc but will spend ages trying to shape it etc...etc...etc..
If I still don't make sense just tell me...
I think we needed a CAI thread rather than the two vic/act/nsw ones. I am starting to loose the plot...[/color:post_uid0]

And Ag pipe has the bonus of catching any water that is likely to get sucked up, in it's corrugations.[/color:post_uid0]
The ag pipe is unslotted dan, so there are no slots in the corrogations. Only intake will be at the bar so no different then running pvc except previously mentioned benefits re air flow.
I dont like the idea of a/c piping due to the fact that the material can be easily perforated, AG pipe is much stronger and is as easily shaped as a/c pipe. Granted a/c pipe is a wee bit cheaper.[/color:post_uid0]

there was one early last year (i think that's when it was) - here (http://www.astinagt.com/melbcruise.html)
Olympic,
You more then likely have the same setup as I do, 1st gen 94 model, so you definetly have an airbox. Its big, black and ugly and your AFM will be attached to it. If you have a pod filter then more then likely whoever installed it ditched the airbox.
With a pod, you legally should have it enclosed so you should simply run the cai to a point in your pod enclosure so the pod will suck air from the cai. If its not enclosed, you can run the cai to sit somewhere near the pod filter but it will not be very effective as it will be easier for air to be drawn from the engine bay as opposed to the cai pipe.
If you want somthing similar to what I did, be prepared to hack your airbox apart as the pipe i used is vry large.

ok,
jynx- ive got a first gen astina, as in a 91 model sp. all i have is the afm, with the outflow the goes back and hits a box. but this box is small, not big and ugly. its about the size of a stack of about 5 cd's. thats the best estimate i can give. i took it out, and theres nothin in there. theres not really much room there to run an AG pipe into. any ideas??
and sk, rupes rite, i was lookin at the old melb cai day.
ah you have one of thoooose astinas.... the BG series. I havent looked at an engine bay in one of those for a while so cant help ya without a pic.
In regards to fitting the pipe, if theres a will theres a way.
Ill make sure i pack a dremmel or somthin in case we need to hack off some metal in your chassis...

If the 10th, then might come down to say hello.
I'm working at Eastern Creek for some mates in the Jag Club on the 11th....introducing them to a REAL car :)

I have not given up!!!!!!!!
I am still working on it, and I have a worst case scenario fall back, which involves the grassy area outside a block of units, and some ground sheets. As long as we get some extra extension cords.
As I said, that is worst case scenario though.....
Wonder how much to rent a pavillion at Exhibition Park????
I'm still lookin' too Kitty.
Might be able to use the underground carpark under the new units just across the road from Exhibition Park. I'll check with JJ how they're coming along and if people are moving into them yet. Might be able to use his car spaces before he moves in.

Yep, we can use the area near the sailing club next to the boat shed. We might have to limit it to the cars being worked on but there is ample parking about 15 metres away. We might even be able to get some nice piccys next to the water or something like that. :)
I'll try and swing by and take some piccys so that everyone knows what we're dealing with.
The club is in Yarralumla Bay and to get there is easy as p!ss. Drive south along Northbourne until you get to the set of traffic lights in front of Parliament House. Its the only set between the bridge and the house so its pretty easy to spot. Turn right and go past the British High Commission and the Chinese Embassy.
Keep the boot into it through the roundabout and all the way around the lake nice fun road though corners can be tighter than they look if you don't know the road.
No real public BBQ facilities I don't think so Telopea or maybe even Western Park would be fine. Although come to think of it, the club has a BBQ. thinking thinking thinking - I'll get back to you on that one.
I suppose we need to decide on a time then? Maybe 10:30-11:00? I live across from EPIC so can also meet you there. :D

Mmmm.
10:30 sounds good, I may need a little help finding
I leave in the early AM on Dandy Hastings road, onto the South-eastern, under the Yarra and over the Boltey bridge and onto the Calder and 'round the ring rd to the Hume Hwy. Through Albury-Wodonga and onto Yass, turn right and follow the signs to Canberra.
I will pack provisions :D
Simple untill then  I need help (most would say I need seroius help).
I don't know Canberra. Directions like go to the school that burnt down in '75 and turn towards simos' place will not help me :P
Lookin' forward to seeing you on the day :D :) :D
Pretty easy Cosmo Dude.
You should be coming in on the road from Yass so its real easy. Just keep travelling on the road that you come in on until you get to a T intersection with a left turn to Sydney/Goulburn and right turn to the city. Turn right and head towards the house on the hill.
Its about 6km from there to Parliament House on a three lane road through the city. Go over the bridge and look at the pretty lake and the ugly Museum and take the next right at the traffic lights.
Drive straight through the roundabout and you'll pass the Yacht Club. Keep going around the lake for about 1.5km until you find the sailing club on your right. Its pretty hard to miss. :D

I may wotif.com a room for Frid'y night and B'fast at Epic. I've got NFI how long the trip will be (I'm sure it will be woth it :D ). I need to be in Avalon at 10ish on Sunday morning for a Motorkhana :D So a one day return trip not so hot.
It's all GO GO GO 8) 8) 8)
I'll get a dodgy map from a dodgy servo, look out for the VIC reg'd Passion Rose BA Hardtop, unless I drag out the HB Cosmo for a romp  :D
Went to a sailing club meeting last night and we can use the clubs BBQ so its all good.
All we need to do now is organise some food to cook on the Barbie :D
I'll bring down my dad's wheel ramps as well - might make it a bit easier to get to things. :)

Hey Cosmo, there is a Formula 1 motel right next to Epic that is like $50 a night or something.... that might help? or try RatesToGo.com apparently is Australia's premium last minute hotel reservation website, offering savings of up to 60% on hotels and apartments around Australia. I dunno, just heard about it.....
Alright the rest of you, although neither Andy or I have checked the BOM website for the weather, we are going to go ahead and plan for the BBQ because the yacht club has generously allowed us the use of their facilities!
YAY for Andy and the Yarralumla Yacht Club!!!
Soooooooo
For the BBQ portion of the day, we need a decision as to whether everyone wants to bring their own stuff, or pay a nominal per head fee and hopefully I can get some stuff organised. I may rope in some assistance for this
BBQ's generally need (before food):
Cooking utensils
Oil
Eating Irons (knives and forks)
Plates
Salt and Pepper
Tomato Sauce
Mustard
Paper Towels
Anything anyone else can think of?
Then there is food:
Sausages ~ 1 pack Andy, more?
Steak
Onions
Salad for the rabbits amongst us
Bread ~ 2 loaves JJ, more?
Butter ~ some? JJ,
And liquid refreshments:
Soft Drink
Booze ~ VB available at Canteen, rest BYO
Esky
Ice
Stubby Holders
For comfort:
Chairs?
Picnic Blanket or Ground Sheets
Umbrella's and Warm Jackets in case the weather turns
Camera's!!!!!!!
Sense of Humour
Big smiles
I leave the tools, power tools (Tim the Toolman gruff gruff gruff) and other requirements to you fella's. I have asked heaps if I need anything and so far I am bringing my swaybar, bushes etc.....
If anyone does the "bring a sock to put in it"
why I oughta.....
*Lady Deathstrike Claws*
hahahahahahaha
What do you think fella's??? Seriously?
Who is going to bring what and what should I bring from that list above?
Don't you all dare say I need to bring the alkeyhole coz you got buckleys!
If you don't tell me who is bringing what, I won't be bringing anything and then the day won't go so well ya know? So lets all have a terrific time of it and Party Hard!
Yay for AstinaGT!!
:D

I'll bring a pair of axle stands and some basic tools - plus as I'm drving the Renault we'll have at least one car that's capable of ducking out to shops/Repco/Autobarn whatever if we need bits and pieces.
;)
Oh, forgot to mention,
The club canteen will be open and has heaps of drinks and lollies and stuff available so we can get around drinks by buying our own if we like. We can also use the clubs chairs and probably tables and stuff. There's a sailor's room down the bottom of the club which would suit our needs fairly well.
Canteen is virtually empty in terms of food because its the end of the sailing season so will have to organise that. Its more fun standing around a BBQ anyway. :)
The club has VB and some sort of light beer as well for the drinkers (both in cans too!)
Put me down for a packet of Sausages. :D

You're gonna bring a packet of sausages or you want a packet of sausages???
LOL
Just kidding..........
*giggles*
Good news on the beer front for those that drink beer (not this little Kitty). Who else is going to contribute what to the day??????
Today is er... Wednesday I believe, at least that's what my little pc clock in the corner just told me....
I want to be able to have most things organised by Friday, coz I don't want to be caught short.....
Y'all have a nice day now y'hear!
I'll stop off at the butcher and get an extra big kranski just for you Kitty!
Put JJ down for a few loaves of bread and some butter.
we need volunteers for the rest.....

What sick, twisted, demoinc, demented, evil, nazist person has restricted you to three coffee's a day Kitty?? That's just wrong. I'd be taking it up with Manesty International, or some other anti-discrimiation body. :x :x :x
Three is about my limit anyway! Any more than that and I'm bouncing off the walls!!!!

hehe...can't half tell that was thought out by a woman (not meaning to be sexist, honest!!).
When I have a barbie, I bring something to eat with/off and something to eat
Soz for the late reply...
I was intending on bringing enough to feed me and any mates who tag along. As my 323 looks like it's outta action (ignition module issues), I'm trying to con a mate and a few tx3s into coming if you don't mind them crashing. I will also likely throw in some basic tools etc.
