View Full Version : July 5 - AstinaGT NSW Drive

Ok bois..... reading other topics, it looks like ppls are motivated to go for a drive again.
July 5 is first Sat of July, any complaints? Chosen as hopefully everyone will be able to come if we book a date long in advance. Keep it free. Brad/ Jynx's Berry/ meat pie idea sounds good. Otherwise we can meet Dural, up through Wiseman's Ferry (although ferry not good for low bars), up to somewhere between Terrigal and Newcastle so the coasties can meet up, and back down via Pacific Hwy. Twisty the whole time.
Suggestions.....

I post this as a word of caution and not anything more.
----
A few of the Clio owners have been doing similar drive days in the past and one of them read the 'fine print' of his insurance policy only to discover that the policy did not cover accidents/damage that occurs on organised drive days on public roads.
He did what you or I would do and that is scoffed at that and rung the company in question and sure enough they'd refuse a claim that was made on a 'drive day' or organised club event involving travel in convoy etc!
I know that my insurer (AAMI) doesn't have this provision, but it'd be interesting to see if anyone here is affected or wether its a model specific thing.

No need to apologise, I know what you mean.....
No can do for this Kitty, for some reason that date is ringing bells....
Will keep you posted, but the insurance issue is something to think about too......
I am with Western QBE so they can be pretty tough although I must say they haven't failed to pay up and they have had the best premiums for me, that's why I stay with them.
If they're tough on everyone, we all benefit in the long run with cheaper premiums it would appear.
That's my bit.

In regards to dates.... it was only a suggestion. It will be nearly a year since the Gong crooze where about 12 of us were the last time i went out! Need to get something going. I'm happy any weekend in July.
In regards to insurance - the point of the drive is not to act like we're in the GTP series, its simply a fun day out, nothing too illegal (memories flash of Mal's Astina and Eric's MR2 going for it on the freeway to the Blue mountains.... the first time i saw a turbo astina move.... ) and certainly aint planning on crashing into each other. Run off the road, and u say noone else was around. Hit someone else, well, drive day never happened. Sometimes it doesnt work that way tho unfortunately.
How about the weekend around the 20th? Nobody has said no to that one..... yet.
Cheers
Brad
Eric has an Audi TT doesnt he? Or is this another car.

At CAA we "get around" the "no cruising insurance thing" by not having "cruises".
All events are "meets", then we agree to "meet" at another place and then another. Funny enough as we go from place to place we tend to find ourselves on the same piece of road at the same time :)
20th sounds good

I'm still up. Keep the date free and I'll put together a map/ route later. I got exams and then pissing it up on the coast for a few days so next weekend details can be out. How many central coast/ newcastle ppls and how many gong/ south? Will affect which direction we head.

Id be interested too if you guys dont mind letting your bigger brother the 626 tag along, as long as it heading up to the central coast though, im heading up that way on the 5th for a party so i gotta be up there anyway...
MrShadow

oh.. re-read the posts and yeah it looks like the 5th is out, 20th it is then, wont know if i will be able to make it till the week before, my work is crap like that, only hand out rosters a week in advance, so i should know on the tuesday 16th
Ok time to kick this thread up a bit.
20th July is not good.
We should shoot for the 12/13 or 26/27. Please register your interest now so we can get organising.
Considering most of us are either going to be coming from the Sydney CBD (or there abouts) and Canberra CBD then we should probably try to organise somthing where the two groups can meet up in the middle.
I was thinking possibly somthing like Ulladulla which is roughly 3hrs south of Sydney and would be roughly 3hrs from Canberra. Should be able to find somewhere in ulladulla to cook up some lunch. Snags and rolls sounds like a plan.
The other possibility is half way down the highway to canberra but this is quite a boring drive.
We might want to consider making it a weekend event as a 6hr round trip is a bit in one day. Not impossible but somthing to consider. I personally dont mind the trip, the road south is quite enjoyable.
Show of hands please kids and please post your thought, suggestions and leave the funny business in some other thread :)

My opinion on this is that i think there should be a cruise held north for a change, ive travelled south for every cruise now,and i think it would be fair if we had 1 this way for a change guys
Maybe around the Entrance/terigal/gosford area, its a really nice place :D
Id be happy to go Nth. Some nice windy roads that way.

I'm easy with direction and date - Uni break till end of July.
I'm in Hornsby / north-west sydney so north is better as dont have to trek across all of Sydney. Pac Highway from Berowra to Gosford is still my fav stretch of road, but gotta be careful on weekends with bikes (push) around blind corners and more traffic. That way we can pick up coasties at Terrigal, and continue up to newcastle somewhere unless Theo (and others) wants to meet us down there too and head inland somewhere.
MrShadow
29-06-2003, 12:04 PM
Yo peeps, I'm also on Uni hols after Tuesday, and back from Katoomba on Sunday, so anytime before August is fine. As I come from the entrance/terrigal/gosford area, I would defiantley prefer to have the cruise North of Sydney. Not necessarily on the Central Coast, anywhere between Sydney and Newcastle is fine with me, oh, wait that pretty much IS the Central Coast, oh well ;) . SO basically:
* Anytime after next Sunday (provided it's a weekend, not weekday). How about the 12 and/or 13th of July? That seems to be a commonly available date?
* Anywhere between North Sydney and Newcastle, just not too far West ;)
yeah i think the weekend of the 12th sounds good to terrigal or the entrance just let us know when the exact date will be

OK, despite the fact I'm not really organising this, I'm making an executive decision. Mainly because I'll be out of touch for the next week, so I can't cop any flak for it (   ).
The date is the 12th of July. Destination will be ... up to you lot to figure out! I'll just tag along. Oh, just had a thought, if any of you are one of the coffe drinking set (like me), I know a GREAT place to stop, parking cold be difficult though. Ceasars, along (222) The Entrance Road at Erina, great coffee.
Ciao, I'm off to do my last exam, then to freeze my balls off at Jenolan Caves for the rest of the week.

At this stage I have this:
When: Saturday 12th July 2003.
Time: 12:00pm
Meeting Place:Bell Street McDonalds- Cnr St Goerges Rd & Bell Street, Preston
Why don't some AstinaGT guys come join in?
With the crew at ACAP, heading off to Jeff's shed for MAS, prob the bulk of the arvo I guess. There is a tentative evening at a Greek restaurant, dunno at this stage whether that is for Friday or Sat nite, likely Sat.
Sunday......who knows.
Will be in Melbourne Friday but have some appointments lined up from 10am into the arvo.
I'll be staying at Nunawading.
Nunas goes alright... that's pretty close to Dan, Trav and myself.
Not sure about meeting up at bell st maccas. if you go inside to get some food, your car will be on bricks when you get out! that or you will have a canary sticker for having .005 mm of tread under the limit.
