Hi, I am moving to Wollongong soon from Brisbane and will be bringing my wheels. Was wondering what the fuzz situation is like down there. Strict? What can u do/not do. Are enthusiasts picked on? Where don't you go/do go? I am used to fairly light control. NSW laws look nasty! automatic licence cancellation for 130klms/hr. that is not nice. Also where is the nearest circuit track/drag strip? Thanks so much, and look forward to catching up with some people

Mate, welcome. Try moving from NSW to VIC. They have your balls in a bigger and tighter vice down here! This is revenue raising like nothing you've ever seen b4....

All in good fun though. Enjoy the move. The Gong is a nice spot... Try catching up with Sik_Astina [Mick] he's a gong boy. Mal, Theo and Jynx also make an appearance every now and again... [and anyone else i may have left out]

Enjoy!!

Welcome to AstinaGT Jimbob.

Wollongong ppl can tell u the Wollongong scene, but I can answer the rest. Wakefield is a circuit fairly close to Wollongong (2-3 hours?). Lot of clubs have track days there and they usually cost about $120-$150, plus u need to pay like $50 the first time for a wakefield "licence". (extra revenue). Eastern Creek is in Western Sydney.... about 2 hours away (?) and there are regular off-street drags for any car once a month i think. That cost about $35 a couple of years ago from memory, not sure baout cost now. Just need a helmet and your rego papers. Oran Park would be the closest circuit, but nothing much there unless you want to privately book the track, and not many people do becuase of the cost. I did a lap there and it is a great track to drive on.... the "dogleg" is one awesome section.

What can't u do to your car? Anything and everything. No loud music anymore, no coloured lights other than orange ala MX6, as a general rule of thumb has to be able to drive over a Coke can or else is too low, no pod filters, any major mods must be engineered, no foglights on, tint cant be too dark, exhaust not too loud. You only get a canary if u have 3 (i think) illegal items. A friend with a GTi Suzi got done for the pod, tint, and exhaust. Not nice for a car that wasn't over the top!

With licence cancellation.... if u are 30 kliks over, then it will be suspended. Victoria is worse than that, i was 28kmh over and he said i shouldnt be allowed to drive in Vic for a month.

Theres lots of cops - just don't do anything around them and you'll be fine.

Yo, welcome! Enjoy the forum and site. Can't say much for the 'fuzz' as I haven't had any dealings with them (yet).

Watch out for Rupewrecht, he's a baaaad man, keeps changing my signature

Ok thanks guys for the very nice welcome

I must own up though, I don't have a astinaGT, I have a Falcon XC coupe. Not to say I have anything against smaller cars. I am totally not into this 2litre milk slang that ppl go on about. I also have a Hyundai Excel as my runaround car so... I was going to buy a Pulsar GTiR before I came down to replace the Excel if that does me any justice. I do like my Excel though, she has a few mods, and I do like astinas. The ford is the result of many years of blood, sweat and tears. I will have a site up for her soon. I will keep you posted and I would very much like to meet some people with car like interests when I get down, so please keep in touch

Thats OK Jim Bob,
An XC Coupe is a fine car to own. One of the ballsiest cars I have
ever been in was a worked XC Cobra. Damn that thing would haul
ass. I am an old holden man, loved my HQ 2Doors almost finished
a 454 powered one before the wife fell pregnant and I had to sell it
up to pay baby expenses. Good to see a V8 man who can respect
the 4's as most of us love and respect the 8's. I bought mine for
cheaper insurance and running than my old V8 but hasn't worked
out that way with my love for the turbo(and hatred of Mazda boxes).

Hope the gong suits you well.

Regards

Mal
