Hi all,
sorry for not posting info about headers for the SP20 for some time. And sorry to those of you who have emailed me and for not replying.
My yellow beast is booked to go in the first week of school holidays in July to have the headers removed by pacemaker headers. A jig will be made of the headers and during the three days that they'll have the car I'll finally get my production set header (hopefully ceramic coated) and the second cat removed and replaced with a high flow cat.
Pacemaker apologises for the long delay of not having our header on the market and believe me when i tell you that he has received a number queries from dealers around the country for them.
Hopefull not too long to go now!
As for my car, now has done 14,000km since the headers went on and the first cat removed and no CEL light, no loss in fuel consumption (still 11.6km per litre) and definetely no loss in power and acceleration.
Thats FANTASTIC. I have been waiting a long time to get some headers for my SP20. I'm ready to buy one as soon as they are out.
One tech question though. With the Pacemaker header will the SP20 now only have 1 cat. At the moment i have my second cat removed. SO i'm guessing that the PAcemaker header will remove the first cat, and all i will need to do then is get a high flow cat installed in the position of the 2nd cat. Is this right?
Thanks,
TDK

Just a side question mate.
When they take the headers off can you get them to confirm
or deny if the bolt pattern on the head for the exhaust manifold
is the same as a BP as people ask if a BP Turbo manifold and
turbo would be a bolt on.
Nice to have some facts.

TDK...At the moment I have the factory second cat still bolted on after the headers. Though, when the final production set is made I'll have the workshop next door to Pacemaker headers install a high flow cat which should free up some more kw. At the moment the second cat is not cleaning the exhaust as best it could as I am fortnightly polishing my muffler tip to get rid of excess black soot on the edges of the muffler tip.
BIGMAL... I 'll certainly ask the question when the car goes in. But I would have thought that the BP is a completely different engine from the FS??? and hence different bolt pattern etc... no worries mate..I'll still ask.

I agree mate by model number the BP and FS should be totally
different but a lot of people are asking questions as the bore size
is the same. Hate speculation so its always good to ask. Even
if the block was similar to a B block I would think that the Mazda
would be using the updated 99+ MX5 head with the higher straighter
port design for better flow.
Thanks for asking anyway

I too will be VERY interested in the headers when they become available.
atm i have everything standard up to the second cat and then a 2" system and sports muffler after that.
So will be interested how it sorts out for cats and O2 sensors etc and who will be knowledgeable dealer in Sydney to make it work properly.
I'm "staying tuned' here :)
Thanks for the heads up adelaidesp20!

Car is booked for the 7th July and will be out on the 9th with final production set header all tried and tested for optimum performance.
As soon as I pick it up I'll enquire how long before orders can be filled.
Interesting to see Genie headers are also available, I wonder if they have the first cat removed or if they are using shorty headers as some in USA ?
Regarding the Genie Headers, i was told that the first cat is removed. The header also has provisions for both O2 sensors.

I don't know the answer, but Mazda likes to make small production changes in the same model and has sometimes kept things the same.
The BP and B6 engines still have the original mounts from the Mazda 1300 from the early 70's and a different bell housing pattern.

I have some new info about the Genie headers for the SP20. Apparently the headers aren't 'Genie'. The company that makes Genie headers also make another brand call 'Wild(catz?). The only difference between the genie and the wild is that the genie is mandrel bent while the wild are press bent, everything else is the same. The headers for the SP20 are the Wild brand, which means that they are not mandrel bent. I got all this info straight from the people that make Genie and Wild Headers. They also said that they have gotten the sensor placements 100%. He also said that there isn't much difference in the mandrel bent header compared to a press bent header.
So what does everyone think, is there much difference between the mandrel and press bending.
adelaidesp20, do you know if the Pacemaker header will be mandrel bent or press bent. Also, do you know if they will be offering it in a polished(stainless steel?) finish.
Thanks,
TDK
How Many Kw at the wheels with headers & Exhaust?
Worth the money or not ?
