Theo, that's a bit rich. Adam rang up a while back and was quoted $1000 - still way too much. try OzeParts.com for some though, maybe they are cheaper.

The genuine kit is a little rich, the switch alone cost me $112 (It looks richt and fits the hole exactly :) )
You need the switch, plugs into existing wiring located behind the inner right-hand blank under the instument cluster.
A relay, plug is located behind kick-panel in passengers footwell.
Lights, see Canberra CAI day photos for location of plugs neer headlights.
And last but not least patience, you will find it easier to remove the front bar and fabricate brackets for your new lights (with these prices I'm guessing you'll be going aftermarket.

er.... if they are charging that much for just the lights, how much is a front bar replacement for a V6? My BG bar only cost about $600 painted.... no foggies, but add that price to the fogs and thats one ridiculously expensive bar? If the bar and lights is cheaper, couldn't u just stick that on a 1.8 car and sell your current bar?

Cosmo Dude
09-06-2003, 02:26 PM
The lights would be more expensive as they are a low turn-over item (only used on the V6). The front bar would be a higher turn-over item due to the quantity damaged in accedents etc... they don't sit around collecting dust.
Some items are very cheep, the rubber pads for the brake and clutch pedals are about $5 each.

i already have mesh in the front bar behind my immitation driving lights

Hella do a set of rectangle fog/driving lights which are very
close to the originals except dont have the curved corners.
A set costs between $100 to $150 depending on where you
shop. From a distance hard to tell the difference has fooled
me a couple of times thinking I have seen a six and then notice
the single pea-shooter exhaust.

yep - thaty's what is on the front of mine (but mine are the fog lights, not driving lights)

http://www.cse.rmit.edu.au/~e14455/astinagt/tjskar/tjskar_001.jpg

Had to make up some brackets for them to stop the wobble of the front bar though...apart from that, real weet, and they just fit...

cool i might give the hella ones a look at, the ones i have on there at the moment are pretty close to the hella ones but i think the hella are a little rounder

I will try and look up my part number for you...I think they were around $180 for the entire kit, but I also bought the Mazda Fog light swith that slots right into the dash, and you will need to add the relay to the Mazda wiring found behind the kick panel, on the left in the passenger foot well.

Surely you can pick some up from a V6 at a wreckers / importer somewhere.
Although, I haven't tried to find a wrecker / importer with a V6 mazda lying around.

mrpayner
17-06-2003, 12:41 PM
I'm sure most of us have tried a wreckers at some stage to see if we can get those lights cheaper than Mazda prices.....however..... the wreckers know how much they are, so they try to get top dollar for them.... :( They're not likely to be that much cheaper anyways

Mal what colour is the v6?
has it got a council pick up sticker on it or any stickers on the front window?

BigMal
25-06-2003, 01:38 AM
Its Noble Green :)
I keep on looking at it for its bonnet which I need.
It doesn't have any council stickers on it.. It took forever
for them to take the plates off of it. If the owner had washed
it and kept the cobwebs from growing I think they would never
have woken up to it.
Does it really matter if it has stickers on it ?? Thou I would
love the parts I wont steal for them.

anyone know what it would cost to ship the spot lights to nz?

BigMal
25-06-2003, 11:40 AM
I didn't think you guys paid import duty for any car stuff as you have
no car manufacturing. Would have thought the Mazda genuine price
was around the same as our second hand market. Am guessing about
$30-40 to post over to you as the Link computer I had sent from NZ
cost about $15 and is about half the weight.

That means that is has probably been stolen and the cops are contacting the owners. Leave it alone and contact the local authorities who may eventually tow it, you may be first in line for a very cheep Astina :? With you knowledge and experience you could re-sell such a car for a tidy profit.

Imagine it was your car, how would you like to get it back?

Rod

P.S. I don't appreciate the tone this thread has taken :x

Check out autobarn.com they have good deals on hella driving and fog lights. You can also got a remote wiring kit (approx.$30) so that you don't have to feed any wires through the fire wall. I'm going to get some myself within a few weeks.

Trav
26-06-2003, 08:37 AM
Wiring is alrady in place for th fog lights in astina's - just use the existing wires, place a relay in the passenger left ickpanel and a switch into the dash where the soket is already siting, and shazam - done...no need for extra wiring or feeding through firewall...

Sorry Cosmo for the jokes. I'm reasonably confident that everyone that is joking about placing orders would never do such a thing - hence why they are joking  . I would be more worried about the ones not posting jokes about it :o

BigMal

I am also sorry Cosmo.
I did say before that I wouldn't steal for my parts.
I dont believe it is stolen as the plates were taken
off it a couple of weeks ago and if it was stolen then
it wouldn't generally be unregistered.
I was sorta fishing to see if a group were interested
in buying it and wrecking, I dont have the cash any
more to finance it as bought an investment property.

I have one in my shed at home - minus the reflector though

What part is the reflector

Yeah mine is stuffed internally,i was trying to pull off the connector that attaches to the bulb and i heard a CRACK,i didnt think anything of it at first, but then i realised that id snapped something inside and now the whole inside of the light just shakes around
So there is no point in adjusting the headlight cause it just keeps moving around
And a new 1 for my model costs a fortune, even an ozzy parts 1 is over $400 :x

The refletor is the bit that is rattling around on the inside of yours. It is the part that adjusts to 'reflect' the light back out to the front.

My replacement was genuine from "MAZ Motor Wrechers" mazmotor@hotkey.com.au

cost AU$363.64 +GST - damed expensive things, but having a look at the construction (I took one apart), I can see why - big bit of glass and a fairly fiddly design (+ the cost to store it for people like us).

Toyboy
27-06-2003, 11:54 AM
Yeah thought it was that part :P thanks dude :) I think mine can stay broken cause im not paying $4-500 just for 1 damn headlight
