View Full Version : Intercooler Sizes?

I was just curious to what size intercoolers people are using and fitting into BA astinas. I've kinda got my eyes on a 300(H)x400(W)x73(C) intercooler with 2.5in inlet and outlet. But looking at the front bar I don't think I have 7.3cm to play with.

Also, the turbo is stock GTX. I have been told that a bigger (wider) intercooler is required but i honestly don't see the point in it as the turbo is so small. (Only usable boost up to 11psi.) I feel that if it's any bigger, it'll have too much lag. As the piping as already been increased also, this will already be adding to the lag.

The same company makes 300(H)x500(W)x73(C) and 300(H)x600(W)x73(C) sizes.

Ideas from guys who have already done this?
Is 7.3cm too deep to start with anyways?
If a VF10 is to be fitted, should I go bigger just in case?

I think mine is 700x300x70 :) works fine at 10PSI :)

go for the smallest that'll flow the amount of air you need.

If you got aircon cutting up the front bar is manditory.
How much seems to vary between cars I thought I had to hack a lot out of
Jynx's/Soneco's front bar but that was nothing compared to Exodus' front bar it
almost has no bottom at all any further forward and you would have to cut holes
in the front but both are using the same I/C. Get a VF10 straight away you
wont regret the $250 outlay is awesome bang/buck. It will also mean you can
run your bigger pipes and I/C etc and not be concerned of overkill for a VJ20.

I use the 300 x 400 x 75 on my BG which works a treat with the VF10 setup and 14-15psi

Hey Simon93AstinaSP do u have any pics of the inlet pipe for the bottom of the VF10? Did you port the wastegate?

Port the wastegate anyway it can only help. You can do it yourself just scribe around
the wastegate flap with like a needle or anything sharp so that its the exact size of
the flap and then with a $2 shop grinding set, grind it out to about 2mm on the inside
of you marked ring. Be careful and keep on checking that the flap cannot move around
and expose a gap in your grinding and all good. Have done a couple of them now its
not hard at all.
