Ok if anyone needs brake pads AT ALL let me know, I'm putting in a fairly huge order and the prices are down...

Lucas, best performing pad unless you're willing to spend over $300 a pair, generally around the $55-$65 mark for fronts, and little bit less for rears...

Protex, for those of you with big shinny rims Protex, although not as good as the Lucas, are still an excellent pad, and driven normally you won't notice the difference... The big bonus, they don't dust up nearly anywhere near as much as the Lucas.. Around $35-45 for fronts, and possibly less for the rears...

Anyone interested, let me know, i'm happy to post stuff out Aust. wide via 3kg Express sachels, which are roughly $8.. PM or reply here, or even better SMS me 0439 774 126 with either your EXACT car details (inc. engine), or even better, a brake pad reference number... If you wanna look this up checkout the online bendix catalouge at www.bendix.com.au

May also be able to do rotors, but no promises, i haven't looked into that... For those who replied to my sms's today, i'll have prices and avaliabilities hopefully tomorrow...

Cheers,
Astro Boy

As I've seen the error of my ways in mixing front and rear combos can you get rear shoes for the '06 2?

Astro Boy

2006 Mazda 2?

Should be able to... NO idea on prices, never had to do shoes, even on the rally car(s)! :p

Mixing combos? You mean brands?

In this case it was brands although compounds would be a more accurate description.
1st call was a warning, second call was a collision :( Same make, same model, same colour, different vehicle/driver.

I'm gonna have a guess and say DB1177, they all have been so far, and although the bendix catalouge lists two different ones, the lucas catalouge only lists one, so i'm gonna go with that...

It will DEFINATELY be cheaper than $65, even with shipping! ;) Plus you won't have to put up with bendix! :p

The only Lucas pad that comes close to being $65 that i've delt with so far is the VT-VZ Commodore...

Only the rear you were after? Should be somewhere around the $45-50 mark! ;)

How do protex compare to normal OEM pads?
For a fairly sedate driver worth the change? and what is the price difference roughly?

Cause while mine are fine at the moment they have got to be heading towards the end.
FYI, 96 V6 HT.

Astro Boy
31-08-2006, 05:50 PM
Ok, guys, this is the low down! :p

Firstly sorry Cosmo, neither Lucas or Protex make pads or linings for the Mazda 2, so i'm guessing its bendix or geniune only...

Prices, now i have some definate prices: *UPDATED*

Lucas

- DB1159 $50
- DB1177 $50
- DB1180 $45
- DB1267 $60
- DB1291 $60
- DB1362 $65
- DB1359 $55 (Maybe)
- DB1287 $75 (?)

Protex

- DB1359 $30

To give you some idea of other Protex price, i've also been chasing other non-mazda stuff, and everything from Toyota Coronas, Express Vans to VZ Commodores, the most expensive Protex pad is $40, generally a little less.

Standard protex is of similar quality to OEM, or entry level bendix... Or more than enough for your average sedate driver. They also make a Protex Blue, which is their upper spec pad, probably filling the price and performance gap between Protex Standard and Lucas, whilst not being as dusty...

I can find out prices on request, but unless your really worried about dust, then just go the Lucas... That Protex DB1359 which apparently Lucas don't make is on the back, so not a big issue... Everything else hasn't been a problem.

Postage Auswide is $10.00

Oh, and for the record, Gav decided to keep me honest and chase his own prices today... he got quoted $96 for Lucas DB1362! :p

Anyone who wants them PM me, i'll give you final prices, and bank account details etc, and if ya need postage swing me your address!

Hi, live in Sydney, want Front and Rear Lucas Pads.
97 BA Hardtop 2.0 V6.
I'll find out prices for the hardtop tomorrow... the backs should be DB1291 ($60), but the fronts are either:

DB1177 ($50)
http://catalogue.bendix.com.au/images/DB1177_Inner_Outer.gif
or DB1287 ($?)
http://catalogue.bendix.com.au/images/DB1287.gif

The Lucas catalouge says the later only, so there's a good chance its that, but its always safe to cross check against Bendix...

Go back through the thread for a picture of the DB1177 Sumitomo caliper if ya need help...

Meh, they are only 7 weeks old I'm sure they still have some life left in them. I'll have to keep my eyes open. Bendix make good mom & pop brakes but I like a little better.

Astro Boy
31-08-2006, 06:05 PM
Yeah, i'm sure Lucas will follow, just not yet...

See now if it was a commodore, you'd already have them from an earlier generation! 78-97 is DB1085, and 97- is DB1331!!! EVERY SINGLE CAR, even VL Turbo etc... Makes life easy! :p

Cincinnatus
31-08-2006, 08:33 PM
a witle foncused... my rears, roughly half the size, will be more expensive then my fronts?

Astro Boy
31-08-2006, 09:03 PM
Yep, just the way it is, the more popular pads are cheaper. For example Commodore pads which are probably twice as big again are only $55...

The difference is retail pricing will just make the fronts VERY expensive so it looks normal, as Gav found out when he priced DB1362 at $96, when we've got them going here for $65...

Cosmo Dude
31-08-2006, 09:09 PM

I've priced, DB1287 for the hardtops out there, and its close to $75!!!!!!!!!! No idea why its so expensive compared to the rest, but i'll see what i can find out!!! Has anybody else bought these and if so what price have you paid?

03-09-2006, 12:21 AM

Between AGT, my friends, my friends' friends, and another forum i'm on, i'm getting enough interest every 2-3 days to get group buy!!! So i'm just tallying up the orders and putting them in about once a week...

Rupe's and toyboy's are in the mail, and i think gav is picking his up today, but i've already got enough again to put an order in on monday, so let me know...

Only prob there maybe a short wait (like less than a week) on the Lucas 1359! I've bleed the local distributor dry! :p

Is it too late to get in on this? I'd be after Lucas front/back on an 03 SP20 Astina.

Front: DB1362
Rear: DB1359

I think??

edit - are you able to get the DB1196 rear pads? My brother has a Swift GTI may also be interested.

Astro Boy
06-09-2006, 06:27 PM
Na, i can still get em. Basically, i've bought such a quantity now (like over $1200 worth!!!), that they're happy to extend the offer, and they're also gonna see if i can become a re-cognised re-seller... Usually, you'd need to meet requirements such as actually having a store, and minimum quantities, but in this day and age with the net, they're going to see if a 'virtual online store' counts! :p

Stay tuned, Lucas and protex pads at trade prices might be an ongoing thing!!! :D

i changed my pads for ferodo excel and when i took the old ones off they are Lucas. these r the fronts, they still have 80% or more left on them if any 1 wants some hardtop V6 front lucas pads. i think the excels are better :P personally. and very little brake dust 2.

Hey bud, do you know what pad it is?

It'll either be DB1177:
http://catalogue.bendix.com.au/images/DB1177_Inner_Outer.gif
or DB1287:
http://catalogue.bendix.com.au/images/DB1287.gif

Its more likely to be the first, earlier in the thread someone had a photo of it too if that helps...

BTW, after what was a couple of pretty huge group buys, i've now got access all the time to lucas pads at wholesale prices through an account, so whenever you need pads either lucas or protex, let me know...
