I've been enquiring about the altezza/euro lights from USA. I have worked out that to import a pair of carbon look altezzas for the SP20 after GST and customs duty (inc postage and the lights of course) would be a total of $400. Has anyone already imported a set ???? and if so how much did you fork out...or better still is there a shop in OZ who sells them ?
If there is interest maybe we can send an order in it may save us some $$$

Altezza

Carbon fibre

Hyper Black
http://store3.yimg.com/I/dpstore_1746_3033244
from here (http://store.yahoo.com/dpstore/protege2.html) but they're not that cheap - about $200USD
but i like the black ones :D

as if! if the HT had actually come out in the US, there'd be a slim chance ,but look how long it's taken for Protege5 ones to be made - the car came out 5 years ago!
Those carbon fibre ones look fantastic!!! Only problem is if they are for the updated series 2 sp20? But they will fit the series 1 yeah?
Plus, 210USD, add shipping, yeah, definately approaching 400ozy quickly.
If I didn't unload a bundle on the camera, I'd consider them... but, out of cash for the moment :(

Bill:
to be honest, i think the only difference in the BJ and BJ11 lights are the backing - so i'd be extrememly surprised if they didn't fit.
Actually, i think the progete5 only came out in 2002 and THATs why it only says those years
Gareth:
remove lights
heat them in an oven
pull them apart with your hands once the glue has heated up a bit
remove the color insert
put them back together!
or send them to me and i'll do it. it just means you'll need to have someone in the back seat to shine a red light out the back everytime you brake :P
MrShadow

So I pull the lights apart and then put the person with the red light in the oven?

Damn, those are some nice lights Rupewrecht!
Here's a picture of my tail-lights:
http://www.procarparts.com/productimages/TOY-COR-9397-XXRD-XXXX-AT2X.jpg
No pics of them on the car, as i broke my digital camera, hopefully it'll be back soon.
As for making your own, i know there's a guy in Sydney who can make them, as he made a set for an Excel here in Canberra....lost his business card however. I did read a DIY guide, and this guy reccomended using the stuff that covers the fluro lights in offices, you nkwo, the bumby stuff...and then clear perspex as an outer cover. Although, this will make smoked/clouded tail lights, not true altezza style ones.

hey guys dont want to dissapoint you but thous lights r for a protoge not a hatch an believe me their is a big differents in the 2 lights i would be real shaw before buying them if u have a hatch because ive been in contact with altezza an they told me they dont make them for the hatch an they have no plans too at this stage an if a new model comes out with different lights they never will make them for the sp20 hatch
Rupewrecht
17-06-2003, 08:53 PM
no, the ones i posted up (on the first page) are for the SP20 - they're clearly the correct shape :)

yer i agree with u there for a sp20 but a sedan have a good look an if im wrong ill eat my words an will be the first to part with my money an have a set
if you look at the lights closely... the P5 lights are 'fuller' and more square than the protege, which have a sharper curve sloping on the inside of the light. it's hard to explain, but to me, there is a clear distinction between them.
Rupewrecht
19-06-2003, 02:40 PM
agreed. you only have to look at the length and width of both of them together to see the differences :)
i'll bet $100 that these ones are for the Astina/Protege5 :D

unsure of the hatch wing too... looks like those dodgy laser wings! haha
getting better.... note: only far right is for P5.
http://www.604racing.com/lighting_mazda_protege_taillight.htm
based on CAD/AUD rate, those lights are approx $AUD290, add shipping, getting cheaper... for the protege anyway, no price on the P5 lights.
A really good guide to aftermarket parts and accessories for the BJ Astina... very good stuff...some good links too.

Thanks Rupe and to you all.
There has to be a shop in OZ who can import these lights without asking too much of an add on profit margin.
Cosmo Dude recommended a guy on another forum (MX^) but no response so am beginning to lose sleep and face the fact that i may never get my carbon fibre dream realised.
Oh well....plan 2.
Got my latest Hot4 mag and will now be calling each accessory shop that advertises altezzas and ask if they can import in a bunch from the companies listed on ebay selling the P5 lights.
News on another front.....Chromed my fuel cover last week and it looks hot on my yello beast. Next on the list will be a nice set of 17" atix 5 rims if I can find the mcheap from somewhere.

Hi Odd12c
Yes please, I'm ready to pay. How are you paying ?
I am in the middle of setting up a temp visa card with a small limit so I could pay via bidpay over the net for them to send a money order, but if there is another way am happy to hear from you.
Yes the Carbon Fibres are the ones I'm after as I've seen some photoshop of these on a yellow Sp20, Clears look ****e!
p.s. the car is going in for it's header measurements on the 7th so will hopefully come out by the 9th with the final production set headers and ceramic coated too! That will mean that orders will hopefully be filled soon after.

Hey guys,
I would definitely be interested in these Altezza lights but am a bit strapped for cash - finally got my new stereo!! So let me know what the cost is and i might go for it later.
The BJ 1 and BJ series 2 have slightly different sized lights. When I bought mine I was getting the newer style lights put on mine (for an extra $40) but they didnt fit. They are only a tiny fraction too big for the pre-existing moulds.

hi there hi-res mate you can buy black-chrome , carbon-fibre , an chrome tail lights for your model
now the only difference between the bj-1 and bj-11 is where the bulbs fit in on the bj-1 it takes the normal bulbs so the holes in the back off the light is to small
the bj-11 uses a wedge type bulb with a smaller clip in plastic plug
now you have 2 options for a bj-1 replace the wire from the plug to the lights or just file the holes out till there the same as ur plugs
i no that srs in sydney is stocking them they were $350 at the show but maybe $400 now if you need help let me no
cheers rod

Hi Odd12c,
Thanks for clearing the difference from BJ1 to BJ11.
I'm now enquiring from EBay seller in US on chrome taillights as the price has come down dramatically due to the new Mazda3 being released.
One seller has the chrome lights for US$105 and by the time you get shipping etc... I'll be forking out just a fraction over $200, way better than SRS. Still not sure whether i should pay by Visa, has anyone got any thoughts on this on how safe it is to use visa with US ???
dfvadr
16-11-2003, 12:37 PM
the best way is through western union it will cost u 20-35 dollars but its the safes way do it at your post office an pay them by visa
i bought mine from matrix racing cost me $380 delivered to my door that was all fee's included also insurance an tracking
u have to contact who u r buying them from [say email] get there bank details then go to post office an get them to do it for u through western union they even give u the converted rate at time off transaction
from the day i processed my order to the day i recieved them was 7 days

my honest opinion on the black ones on a black car they looked crap
i bought the chrome ones then next year i thought i would get the black ones for shows to be different but after seeing them on 1 i would not buy them
u can get carbon fibre clears too dont no how they would look though
an if u get clear ones the sides an backing r in a creamy colour so u have to get some black paint on thous too

YAY!
I've just ordered my carbon fibre lights from US.
Now just counting down the dys to being the first Sp20 in Adelaide to have carbon fibre rear tail lights. Though I should have paid the extra $$$ and got the gunmetal grey lights.
Now I'm trying to find buyers for my OEM lights here. Maybe a car wrecker may be interested or mazda dealer. Anyone have any thoughts on selling the OEM lights ?
Rupewrecht
27-11-2003, 12:13 PM
it might be a good idea to keep them just in case you get defected - as i doubt the altezza ones are rta-approved lol
it's unlikely that you would be defected for them, but you never know! and it's better than having to look to borrow a set to get the defect cleared...
otherwise, a mazda wrecker would be more interested than the dealer, i'd say :)
