Yes, it's time to play....
Name your rubber!!!!!!
I have heard that many conflicting reports of different tyres and brands, I need help... with tyre choice this time!!!
ie/ Goodyear tyres blow up within a year
Falken and Kumho are awesome
Federals are good
Bridgestone can be good or bad depending on what model you get
aaarrrggghhh!
So I put it to you guys, what do you drive on?
I am after a good mid range tyre, nothing too expensive, that is going to last me at least a year!
Also after a good tyre place, somewhere I can go and ask my dumb questions and not feel like a complete blonde!
And somewhere that isn't going to gouge my rims!
ie/ Bob Jane!
OK, so most of you are going to say Tempe are the best, but I just cant get to sydney to buy rubber this time ok? So next best option in Canberra?
So..... anything helpful?

The Cosmo runs Dunlop FM901s 205/60/15 :D :D :D they cost me $180 each and are a mid range tyre.
On the Astina I have Dunlop FM901s 205/55/15 ($200 each) on the rear and Bridgestone Grid II 195/55/15 ($180 each) on the front.
I like the Dunlops better although they wear quicker.

P.S. The chaps down at Cirelli in Seaford are very helpfull but not exactly around the corner from you

cirelli did my alignment on the 18"MOMO's i had. dunno if it was the tyres or a shoddy job but they wernt an overley nice nor were they aligned too well. ive heard good things about tyrepower frankston tho :P
cheers mike
Yoki A539's.... probably mentioned before, but i had them on my rolla sx, and they are on the astina....top tyres if you treat them reasonably nice!
good value too... i can't comment on any other brands b/c the past 4 years i've only had A539's on my car.

That's what I call brand loyalty Kyra!!!!
What about the rest of ya?
What do you drive on?
What has been ****e and what has been a nice ride?
What has lasted?
What is ****e in the wet but good in the dry?
vice versa
C'mon, I am asking the experts here coz I don't know anything about tyres, except the Toyo's that are on the Astina now (were on it when I bought it) are the worst tyres I think I have ever had!!!

I've got Dunlop FM901s on the astina as well. i think they're a great tyre, and they're even wearing fairly well
Falkens are grippy but wear out quickly
And Goodyears squeal!

Sorry Kitty, but I'm going to hijack the thread for a bit:
Dan. how's the beastie going?
Ok, hijacking over:
I have your boring old bridgestone tyres. Can't remeber the model, but I've got stock wheels, so nothing fancy. Considering I do 1,000K per week, they're holding up fairly well. And, ahh, I don't hold back going round round-a-bouts etc (normally  ).

Yep... I got the FM901's as well......205x50/15's to be exact.. Very nice indeed.... I have found them a little noisy though, but i think that's because of a slight mis-alignment.
The Dunlop FM-901's won the Motor Tyre Test this year.. I found that the Falkens tend to let go easier in the wet [Ziex model] as I had them on the Astina before the Dunlops.. The Goodyear Eagle F1's are good as well. My bro [Sehnkhan] has them on the Accent.

I avoid Bob J.
I purchased some wheels from the Frankston outlet with the express purpose of motorsport. CAMS refused to let me race with them and Bobs half wit flunkies refused to refund me. The brake shop next to them also did a 3 brake reline, charged me for four and didn't tell me about a faulty caliper.
** off the soap box now **
Im riding on Pirelli P5000s at the moment.

Kingstar Radial K106 - 195/50/R15
New this spring, have a good feeling about them so far, and the tracking-pattern on the tires both looks great, and works great :)
Here you can get a sense of the looks:

These are the old ones I had:

Don't remember what the old was, they performed nice to but the pattern is just right lines compared to the new.

I've got Falken ZIEX ZE501 205/50/16's on my astina!
They are pretty good for the price and don't seem to wear out much at all since I had them back in July 2000.
I reckon Goodyear Eagle f1's are very good, very grippy but are a softer compound and wear out much quicker. My friend has Goodyear Eagle F1's on his Peugeot 206GTI and drives really really really hard (esp around corners) and they grip really well, even when they are wearing out.
Falkens are good if you are on a budget, but Goodyear, Dunlop and Bridgestone are better choices if your budget is higher! :D
That's my 2cents! LOL

The color is solomon blue, it is in original color, but yes it does look a little more purple than usually (even though the purple color is camera's fault) (and the color has transformed over the years have I've had it).
I love the color myself, it's just so BEAutifull (Bruce Almighty). The more darker blue editions doesn't have the same vibrant color, and the are SO many green editions in my local area (not a single one with my color).
I'm always looking out for other 323F's, and there's a new guy in town with a 2.0L V6, gray-colored, got a custom-front, no wing, hot exhaust, in total smooth looking :)
Got mine second handed, a 54 year old guy had bought it (it was like new), he fitted extra speakers in the rear-doors, but NEVER insert a stereo, which I got fitted when I bought it! Back then it had traveled 64k, around 144k today :) (1996 model)

I have Dunlop FM901s 205/55/15 ($200 each) on the rear and Bridgestone Grid II 195/55/15 ($180 each) on the front.
I have exactly the same, but the other way around. However, the 901's have worn out so I am currently evaluating my options. Everyone tells me that Bridgestone is over priced.

I got these on order atm, they said it was a fitted height of 330mm front, 320mm back from centre of rim to lip of guard, it's about 2 inches...
They're out of stock at the moment, so it's a 2 week wait on them for me... I'll let you know how i go...

The stickier the tire the shorter the life (especially when you drive like I do :D :D ) That's why I put the Dunlops on the rear, and because I regularly find myself booting the go peddle to overcome the rear end slides as my driving style can be quite assertive
  :D
Another vote for Dunlop FM-901s...had two sets of them on my standard 185/60R14 wheels. They are an awesome tyre and really well suited to the handling characteristics of Astinas. Prior to them I had their predecessor, the Dunlop Formula W1's (yes I've owned my Astina that long!)
Unfortunately the FM-901s aren't made in that size anymore so I have a set of Goodyear Eagle Venturas on the front now. They have a tad less grip than the FM-901 (less of an ouright performance tyre) but are a bit quieter and they match up well with my 901s on the rear. Got them from Bob Jane in Fyshwick, they did a damn good wheel alignment too, best the car has ever had. They are definitely worth a visit in Canberra.

I previously had bridgestone re88's and currently have sumitomos of some description. they were about $110 per tyre (14s bear in mind).
They seem fine to me. In their current state (about 1mm tread left - after...2.5 years??) they still seem to have more grip in the wet than the re88s ever did...

I had RE88s on my old work Commodores, there purpose isn't performance or grip. There job is to get the car through the warrantee period. They were replaced with Dunlop Monzas and although they were not performance tires they made the RE88s look like sh!t.
It's the law of diminishing returns, The more you spend the less you get in return. My thoughts are around the $175 to $225 mark for a reasonable tire

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their opinions on tyres.
Sorry I didn't get back to ya's sooner but been away from keyboard for some considerable time. Looks like the intraveinous smarties have done the trick for the moment and I am allowed to stay home for a while at least.
Fingers crossed ;)
Will prolly do they tyres thing next month. Am going to stick with the 14" and try to save up for the rims I really want v's the rims I can afford now.
So thanks once again fella's, I really appreciate it.

i had use FM901 before, excellet grib, but not last for long, once go down to around 80%, they will be no good at all
Goodyear F1 had excellent grib for the life but somehow a bit funny
I most satisfy with the BridgeStone GIII it is the replacement of the existing RE911, excellent grib and reasonable wear rate
