Define a "sports"car.

Good handling? Good straight line performance? Good looks?

Do u think that a Toyota Celica is one of these cool sports cars?

Out of the factory, the Astina looks, goes and corners better than a Celica from similar years. The astina looks good, especially a bit lower with some big wheels. Performance can be upped to the level of a real performance car such as a WRX by turbo etc. Handling - spend a couple of thou and u got a road-gripping beast. And that = a real performance car. 2 doors does NOT mean it is a sports car!

i dont think it's cool enough , but i'm sure she's a sport car. (i heard that she better than mx3)

she look's cool (much preety than other's), leaning to under steer, weaker than celica, and u need to upgrades parts to gain more power.

again, what's the points of spending much money when u can buy a real sport car ? i dont know how much sport car's costs in ur country, but i know how much here (very expensive).

shmulik.

The Astina SP20 in Australia costs about $29,000. A Peugeot 206 GTi $30,000. Renault Cleo Sport $34,000 Subaru WRX $43,000. Audi A3 Turbo $67,000.
The Astina is practical and sporty, Porsche tuned suspension and the Mx-5 engine in the BA. Why wouldn't that be sporty, does the quantity of doors make a sports car? This isn't an attack, more a question.

I hate to do this but;

Why are they sports cars - they do not have the pedagree of the Astina!!!

The V6 Astina in Japan was released as a sports car, as a Lantis type R!!

The cost to buy a sports car and insure it is expensive.

One can spend less money to modify and insure an non sports car to match or better the performance of a sports car Than to purchase and insure a sports car.

Its also about the individual, to make your car to your likes and tastes.

The surprise on someones face when a car worth half the value of theirs is not in the rear view mirror.

Insurance love that "hatch" classification as opposed to "coupe"

Mate of mine has a 2dr lancer, he pays almost $500 more to insure cos its a "sports coupe".

Fin someone to do the work, and when you start smoking "sports cars", they might get a bit more excited.

Is a WRX STi a sports car? It is no different to a modified Astina. It is based on a humble shopping trolley.

What abot Ford Esort RS Cossie from a few years ago? ditto.

Chevy Camaro? Try driving it. The only good thing about it is the engine. It handles like ****e.

You get my point!

Take pride in your Astina dammit, and bitch slap anyone who says anything bad!

Isn't the Astina in some overseas markets classified as a 5 door coupe, only because of the lines of the car being remarkably similar to a 2 door? We've had a similar discussion thread earlier regarding people asking to move the seat forward to get into the back of a BA.... :? This does indicate that the BA Astina [particularly] would appear to be more of a sports model over the BJ....

It's an interesting question put forward though..... it's a similar question as to why anyone would spend crap loads of cash hotting up a Toyota Hi-Ace van when it's purpose is a work horse.... I must admit, some of them do a good job....even if a little over the top!

Practical reasons for why i went for an astina too. It cracks me up when my mate takes us home from the pub in his honda prelude, ever seen a couple of drunk guys trying to climb into the back seat of something that small!! lol

why buy an astina? why buy a wrx? why buy a camry? everybody has their reasons... if you love cars, you will modify any car to your own tastes!! the astina offers plenty of appeal, and that's why we are modifying (slowly) our rides.

*because they still look great
*because you can make them handle, go and stop better than a hell of a lot of cars out there.
*because you get to enjoy the looks on peoples faces when they catch up to you and they ask you 'what is it/is it stock'
* and because it makes you happy, which is usually the reason that you do anything

cheers
