Hi all

So heres my new car. Some of you will like it and some of you will not, I just thought id post it up for thoes of you who are intrested. Took posession today, sorted insurance then went to carlovers for a wash, nebo for a photoshoot. Wish id had a better cammera then my 2 megapixle phone one but it had to do.

So here it is. Its a R32 GTR Skyline. As it is quite a theft target I will not post its list of mods here, however the only thing of any note is replacement turbo's from a later model GTR. Other then that, shes pretty bog stock and runs the stock boost of 1 bar. Despite this, the car is insanely fast and launchs insanely hard. I got to 110 KM/H in 2nd  and I got there rather quickly. Boost in 3rd puts you in illegal territory generally.

Pictures!

anyway, its kinda sad to see the astina go, but I must admit, this car is pretty much better in every way concieveable. The altessa AWD system is amazing, the car is stupidly fast and i have done 350 km's today alone on and im just sitting above half a tank of fuel left. Tank is 65L. Car has amazing tourqe all throughout the RPM range and is allways ready to go. Before having owned one of these, I would never believe a car could be so fast stock. It should be good for a mid to high 12 in its current, largely stock, condition. Biggest fear now is someone is going to steal it, and despite my insurance, I dont want that to happen.

Thanks
Ian

Must say i have never been a huge fan of the look of these, but like lots of things they have grown on me the more i see them.
Personally i would have gone a 300zx but by the sound of it your newie goes hard as!had you always been after a skyline or did you just see it and think 'Damn, i want that'?

just an RB26 twin turbo, i must admit these engines look hot. we got a half cut of one at work...

Was never the biggest fan of skylines until I actually drove one, much like most other people. Funny thing is I drove a R33 GTST, which drives nothing like my R32 GTR.

Now my biggest chalange is to figure out what all the wires do when installing my sound system. Nissian is a big believer in 100x more wires then there needs to be apparently.

you are worried about it being stolen but you posted your number plates on the forum...

Looks pretty nice, one of my mates would be very jealous.

tbh I cant see why posting the plates would make it more of a theft target, but thankee for the heads up anyway :)

Nice, the R32 is still my favorite of the GTRs we get here.

You just need to get the centre of the wheels painted darker ;)

comparing R33 GTST vs. R32 GTR - haha - not even fair as the 33 has less power, less torque, 80kg more weight.

p.s. it's not a car that most crims will steal has is not a car you find everywhere, hence WRXs being stolen every day.

Can't see pictures thanks to work's firewall..but congrats on the purchase. Do you plan to mod it out? raise the boost, sort out some nice ground control and so forth? or is it going to be left more or less stock?

I've always been a skyline fan, and would have bought one if it wasnt a case of "save for the car, finance the insurance"....R32 GTR is probably my favorite...

Good work, hope to see you at the strip sometime :)

R32 is still my most favourite of the shapes..

Please be a sensible motorist, you're only a youngen so i don't want to hear about how it became wrapped around a pole. Drive responsibly.

Nice car dude, insurance must be thru the roof with a driving record...

Ian
16-10-2006, 09:00 PM
my records not that bad.

My lisence has never been suspended or disqualified... Ive only got two infringements on there and they were both over a year ago now, im off my GBB in less then a month's time

But yes. Insurance is a kidney and a leg. Its nearly 3 grand to insure it this year, however go's down by 400 a year until it hits 1600 and stops there.

expensive i say, at the end of the day is it really worth it? also dont be surprised that if the car is crashed if it does get ridin off. reallly expensive cars to fix. not many parts for them come over. all i can say is though, the guards are the lightest things ive lifted in my life, there like the wieght of a full can of coke :O

Thats why im putting off buying an import of such calibre for a couple years, my money is well worth being spent on mods on a smaller car then stoopid insurance. My 2c

Yeah, economically its not worth it, but I have just signed up to a permant position with a good income and I figured id splurge a little, id allready saved up a heap from contracting which is what I have been using to do all the stuff to bring it up to scratch, had the aircon retrofitted and regassed today, that was 450 bucks alone, and I sorted the stereo and other small bugs it had out, everything works now, works well, theres no strange noises to make me paranoid and its smooth as a babies bottom to drive.

I dont have big plans to modify it, I want to leave it largly stock, im not really too keen for any run-in's with plod and the defect squad. The car does everything i need it to do at the moment in its current state and im happy with it the way things are. I may improve on the interior somewhat at a later stage, but nothing major (replacement speakers for example, a GPS unit is on the cards as well along with a much improved in-car security system) and nothing stupid like atmo-BOV's which will leave me worrying when a police car pulls behind me.

It does love to drink so when you put your foot into it however. For around town driving its easy to keep off boost if your not in the mood and then its actually quite good on fule, but it will happily rev up to 7000 RPM before it even sounds like it wants to change gears and if you go doing that expect it to drink. Godzilla gets thirsty.

Strangely enough, its about as noisy as your standard XR6T at the moment, its not loud at all despite its aftermarket exhaust and cops dont really give it a second look if im not doing anything stupid. Driving the car feels comfortable, secure, reliable and confidence-inspiring. I think im in love

Congrats CHAMP!!!!!!!!!! Well done brother. Very impressed. My second favourite car, after the R34 GTR. Have a hoot bro. Drive it, have fun, watch out for the police and steer clear of car jackers in Commodores. See you in the world.

cinncinatus: Their rep is well deserved. Thanks man :) - as to the "blue smurf" car jackers in commo's, well yah, there a worry alright.

Bourbon: if a car is to just get you from a->b is that why you did a DOHC conversion and want to put a screen in the front of your car?

The astina went where it needed to go and it did it in its own style. I just wanted a change - There is nothing like the feeling of driving such a car around, they are noticed wherever you go and the feeling of such power just begging to be unleashed at your fingertips gives you quite a rush. Let it go and watch her soar, she will launch at 5000 RPM happily and will hit full boost in 1st. Sure its a power-rush, and sure its whatever you want to call it, but steping out of the car when I get to wherever im going feels both disappointing (as the best of your day is behind you - until the trip home) and leaves you with a great sense of reward. Even cruising, which she does quite well, she is the most comfortable car to ride in and she does it in such style.

You can drive a BG astina for the rest of your life if you want however. I think its quite admirable that you are sticking by it just so you can stick it in the eye of us in the "standardized" preformance vehicles. If you ever do get your astina up to the standard your seeking, I will be happy for you. Me however, I just fell to the dark side.

oh, the car's market value is 20k. What I paid for it is private and confidential however :). Their unlikely to go much lower in value as the R32 has quite a cult following, and they can no longer be imported due to the new laws so whatever is in the country now is pretty much what us aussies are limited to.

haha i didnt say i just need it to go from A>B. im doin stuff to my car cause i want to, i want it to be different. have fun with it.

oh and also ian i think youll find you can still get R32 GTRs imported :p just real early type. even them bein stripped is hard to find. plus a GTR bonnet will set ya back over $600 for a second hand one, as a standard one will bolt on but is different, would need to swap ya grill as well. not sure what else.... just be expected to pay the roof for parts for it.

HAHAHHHHAHAHAHHHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHA, you never tell anyone any info. if you ask someone how much somethin cost them im sure 99% of us would tell you...whats the big deal, its $$$ you paid. or did you pay too much for it :p

Ian
17-10-2006, 01:26 AM
I paid 18.5 grand for it on account of said imperfections :P

There all mostly fixed up now, however just waiting on the astina sale to go through and she will see a trip to the body shop to get all the little dints and scratchs a car this old must pick up taken out. Hopefully by the end of that I should have just enough left around to install the GPS and security systems I have planned and still meet my reserve that im keeping for repairs. Once done she will be my dream ride and I plan to cherish her with all the love and attention she deserves.

Wow, reading this stuff, youd think I was single and had been for many, many years wouldnt you?

sweet ride man! i never used to like skylines, until a couple of months ago, and now im almost thinking my next car (after uni) will be a skyline :O . i never really liked the shape of r32s, so ill prob look more into r33's (or 34 if i hav enough dough...), but black is nice ;)

what happens if u want to go faster than 180kmh? heheheh

"I drove a R33 GTST, which drives nothing like my R32 GTR."
how was the gtst? after uni i want something rwd which gtr's are not (for drifting in controlled conditions keekek), is it really worth going for gtr's (not for drifting obviously)? a friend was saying gtr is almost a completely different car and u need like a special mechanic etc... i dunno...

nice buy! 10k cutoff!~ wow!
