As the astina's lights aren't too good, i decided to put in a set of 100w bulbs for the low beams.

I have done it properly with relay and thicker wiring etc. Haven't really used them on the road as yet, but from the driveway they look really good and bright.

Im just wondering whether anyone has done this, as I am a bit worried about burning the mirrors inside.

Any help wud be appreciated.

Firstly - 100W Low beams are illeagal - sorry, but they are.

I have replaced my low beams with Narva Plus 30's (55W globe which burn hotter therefore producing a brighter light).

The High beams I have replaced with 100W globes - meaning when High beam is on I have a total of 310W.

The reflectors are plastic and coated with some sort of chrome plating, so I am not sure that they will be able to take the amount of heat you will be putting out for High and Low beam together, and at $400 to replace the light unit, that's real expensive. I have at home the remainder of my drivers side headlight if you would like to see what happens to the relector when it degrades...

Personally I would choose some better globes for low beam and not get anything greater than 65W, and then make sure your lights are adjusted correctly. Once I adjusted mine up properly I found it stacks better.

Oh - I assume you are talking about a BA too?!?!

Yeah - i know, but I have been warned about about that particular model, and $400 (for genuine) was better than Mazda's $650.

i actually asked mazda about this not long after i got my car, and they said it would melt them.

but i intend to upgrade to the narva plus 30's too (after looking thru the Hella 2003/2004 catalog on the weekend - it's an inch thick! )

argh!!

i was bought a new set of bulbs for my headlights 2day as a present.
$100 the pair. When i open up the car, i find out that i have a different type of bulb on each side of the car !!! passenger side has H3, driver has H1. Ridiculous !!!

The headlight assemblies look different from the back too. I'm guessing one was replaced by the previous owner.

So now I've gotta try and sort this out. I'm going to take them back and see if I can swap one. not likely but worth a try!

So my question ... which type is the BA Hatch supposed to have ?!

I know the latter models have a totally different headlight setup to the earlier models. Theo will be able to confirm what bulbs he uses but i can say for 94 that its H3 low H1 high.

Both H1??? That not normal.

Hey Dave, you may fing that someone has swapped the seals around on you by accident which is what has made your H1/H3 problem.

I agree with Trav on this.
I have the H3 low beams and H1 highs on my 97.
Not sure Theo why you would have H1's all round.

stick your low beam on and ook at your lights - you may have one high and one low on - then you know you have a problem...

Well - this may give us an excuse for some 'roadside assistance' while on the Saturday Cruise ;)
