You have by now heard on the news that the USA has banned our favorites spread. I call on all patriotic Australians to petition your local US embassy/consulate to have this irresponsible action reversed. While we are at it we should ban U.S. based food industries such as Oreos, Mc Donalds, KFC etc...

Dumbarses. That sums it up for me. I don't like the stuff personally, but hey, it's massive... banning it because it contains Folate ("Hi, I'm American, and Folate MUST only be contained in Breads and Cereals")... haven't they got more important things to worry about?
Bah, their loss. Kraft is American owned now anyway so it'll only dent their own wallets.

right.... from the same country that brought us compulsary vaccinations and a world high autism rate of 1 in 4...
They're more than happy to pump new born babies full of mercury, MSG, formaldehyde and other vaccine fillers, but they ban vegimite...
And its any wonder they have spastic kids going on school shooting rampages...

Wont effect Kraft's bottom line at all. Very few, if any people outside of this country eat the stuff!
I've tried converting overseas friends and relos, and they think that its disgusting.
meh, let them do it... as long as Kraft keeps making it for us here.... its all good

Ban In America
On the 21st October, 2006, the FDA declared that Vegemite was now a banned substance in America due to the presence of folate in the ingredients. According to regulations, folate is only permitted in breads and cereals. Some visitors arriving in the USA from Australia have had their supplies of Vegemite confiscated.

Now how are they going to get over hangovers?
Incidentally, not three months ago, I was in the states armed with 150 individual portions of Vegemite to hand out at a conference I was at. I even got a couple of takers.
I can just imagine it, at a border crossing between Mexico and the U.S.:
GUARD: U.S. Customs. I need to inspect your vee-hick-l.
AUSSIE: Certainly mate.
GUARD (to himself): Fireworks, Cigars, Boogie board bag full of marijuana, 10 bricks of pure Colombian Crack Coc... a-ha! Vegemite! I'll have to confiscate that.
AUSSIE: Wha?
GUARD: It's a banned substance you sick sonofabitch. If I could arrest you for it I would. You filthy scum you make me sick.
AUSSIE: But, but, but...
GUARD: Get out of here, and don't let me catch you bringing Vegemite in again, d'yhear?
AUSSIE (surprised): Ummmm... okay. [drives off]
-fin-
Of course, they are probably just banning it because it is black.

Don't laugh, this is the same country that banned vitamin b17 amigdalin laetrile which is the answer to cancer...
At the same time letting western churches make up diseases such as HIV/AIDS to try and rid american of gay men and make a quid through the sales of drugs...
Seriously, if its even slightly related to the US i'm over it...

The facts are that it was bans on foods (except breads and dairy) that contain foliate. It was brought to a head when U.S. customs officials learnt of its inclusion in Vegemite and started seizing jars of the banned substance from travelers.
Good news is that the U.S. Gov't has reviewed their stance and removed the ban which allows the sale and possession of this breakfast condiment.
