Mounting Driving Lights

Went to Autobarn to get driving lights today thinking that all I hade to do was connect driving lights to existing wires and a relay and a switch. Didn't think about where I would mount them as the V6 comes standard with them on. The navara ones suggest to me looked like they were going to be a tight fit so we went out to my car to measure up. This is when the guy tells me that there is no where in the front bumper space where they could mount them except for through the bumper but the fibre glass will break and crack over time. They said they could make some mounts somehow but I'm not sure if that is the way to go. Apparently the mazda ones are special/different to aftermarket ones but we all know how much they cost and I am not about to take that path unless its my last resort.

Can anyone help me?
Whats the best way to mount these lights?
Are there Lights that will have a different way to be mounted?
I don't want ones that bounce around. I need some advice. Maybe I have gone the wrong way about installation. I'd prefer to put them in the space that the v6 has them as they'd ruin the appearance of my car if they were on/around the number plates.

can remember for sure but i think the stock driving lights mount from behind the front bar. could u remove the light from that mount, and mount the new ones to the existing mounts ?

Arrgh, I have been jibbed, my V6 dosn't have spotties :(

However, this is something that I have been considering myself.

All you have to do is make a fibreglass mold to suit whatever you want.

There is no place to mount them from behind the front bar without them jiggling around (I think). Fibreglass mould is what they offered to do for me but the V6 model has driving lights so I thought there would be an easier way...oh well.
Does the lancia stratos have a battery just for the spotties. Thats gotta drain a lot of power. If I had that I'd leave 'em on just to piss ppl off :twisted:

Maybe i'm missing something here, but all you should need to do is

a) measure the space you have in the outside front bar holes to mount them - height x width x depth

b) buy a set of rectangular lights that will fit

c) fabricate some brackets (similar to the mazda ones) to hold the lights using the existing screwholes that hold the vented covers in place. just out of some aluminuium sheet etc

let me know what the size of the gap is, as i've got the Hella 2003-2004 catalog that lists everything they make, and there's sure to be some rectangular ones to fit :)

You could also wait until the next cruise in your area and go along to see what others have done.
You may see the good, the bad and the totaly abnormal :lol:

i have put in some after market ones in, actually i tried 3 sets but now ive found a set that is very similiar to the genuine ones (cost me $70) and all i did to mount them was take off the bar and drilled a whole on the bottom on each side and slotted them in and they dont move around or anything and they are secure in there

Thanks Rupe, we measured which lights would fit can't remember excactly 140mmx90-100x??? or something. Its how to mount them I did understand. The guy at autobarn had a few suggestions but I knew the V6 ones had to be mounted in an easier way.
So i'm thinking all I have to do is make a bracket to hold the lights and to screw into holes where the vent covers are?

yeah pretty much. remove your front bar, and you'll see how the covers are attached, and make up some suitable brackets based on them
