Generic 40% to 50% shorter shifter.

Machined from Stainless Steel.

The full List is being maintained on FordLaser.com.

An Update:
There's been some hassles from the people I was goign to source them through - apparently they CBF sending anything overseas so I've done a bit more digging and have come up with an alternative source, just waiting for the shipped price of them so that I can confirm things...

Aaron

They're a known fit for all the FWD 323 and Ford Lasers in the year range 1992 through to 2002.

I can't be sure of the AWD cars though.

Yup $75 delivered. I'm also happy to pick up from Mazda bushes to suit, either the stick bushes only or all four at $10 a pair (this is Mazda price, and I'm only doing it for convenience)

If you PM me I'll send back all the payment details etc...

Aaron
08-03-2007, 08:05 AM
i got mine from ebay america, looks spitting image of the one in the pic.

paid A$38 total for it to my door. :) came with a machine knob as well.

Prior to this group-buy I tried to buy one for myself through eBay and got exactly no-where.

Sure the shifters were cheap (USD9.99 each) but the postage varied from the Stupid (USD40) to the plain crazy (USD100+). Yes there's some bargains around I'm sure but for the most part this ended up not being an option for me.

So I found a place that would sell these to us for about $65 landed here, if I bought 5 of them. This is what kicked off the Group-Buy.

Then I paid for a sample unit which never arrived, so I turned to tracking down one of the makers of these things and here we are now.

To clear up any confusion about this in terms of cost...

We're paying:
* Short shifter EX Factory
* Freight from China
* Import Duty (%15 IIRC)
* GST 10%
* Currency Transfer costs ($22 + roughly 1% exchange rate)
* Postage within Australia for each shifter except mine and Skitz's
* Subsidising the cost of the bushes slightly

So that's where the cash is going and I can assure you we're not getting a volume discount. We're ordering the bare minimum to make this happen.

So that's the story, and if you want to buy from eBay then that's cool, but I really think most people on the Group Buy have looked at eBay and gone "too much hassle" or "these guys really don't want to ship here" as such. In other words we're all smart enough to know that $75 delivered is a fair price and better than anything on eBay today (I've checked).

Now to the other questions:
Yes they're still available, I can PM details over if you want.

The order has been paid for, and we're now in the production queue. This means that it should be about 2 weeks (that was our initial time quote) and they'll be here.

I will be mailing these out when they arrive and that will hopefully be before Dorrigo. The price factors in postage as I'm keen to ensure that everyone gets theirs as quickly as possible.

The main thread about these is over at FordLaser:
http://www.fordlaser.com/viewtopic.php?p=550075#550075

You're welcome to read through the whole thing any time, and it's where I'm maintaining the full list.

As I've posted over there, I'm sorry about it taking so long to get to this point, there's been a combo of delays in the past two weeks that have held things up in terms of getting the order in and paid for, but we are now in the hands of the Chinese and that emans we're at the mercy of our position in the production queue.

I have one set of bushes here - and if you really really need them before the Group Buy bushes get out with the shifters I can send them to you early.

I bought them while I was waiting for the first shifter that never arrived.

Is it a big job to install on a BJ1 (1.6)? (could i do it myself with the guideance of you people?)
Also, it seems the stock knob is on ULTRA tight, would i need to stuff the lining stuff on the outside of the stick (the black plasticy material) to put the new one in?
Thanks poeple ;)

Still waiting - Kitty and I were out of Canberra over teh weekend and Monday and I've been at work all day so haven't checked to see if the manufacturer has e-mailed me since last week.

I am expecting them to be done (based on all the orginal estimates) and shipped to us this week. But as I was told by the manufacturer it depends on their production queue, if a big order is ahead of us things can blow out.

I'll get onto them tonight and see if I can get a revised ETA :)

Sorry guys, still getting my sh!t together from the weekend, yes based on our original ETA they shoudl be shipping out from China this week, but I was warned when we put the order in it was in the production queue and that of course could affect ETA's...

I've dropped the company an e-mail (Actually dealing with the man whose name is one the door) and shoudl have something back tomorrow or Friday (generally he's been getting back in 24-48 hours).

I'm going to ask him about some of their other products like Oil Filter relocation & cooler kits etc etc...

Good news! They're on a plane. The Customs Clearance has been done!!

Bad News! They're on a plane. They need to land, be unpacked, I need to pay their landing fee (no joke), then get a freight forwarder to pick them up in Sydney and ship them down here.

A lot of this shoudl happen over the next few days but becuase of the holiday we won't see them for a week I reckon.

I can recommend a screw on knob (it's so hard not to make a nawty comment) ;)

Try a VooDoo
I have a satin pearl in the MX5 and it's tres sexi!
TeamVoodoo (http://www.teamvoodoo.com/Voodoo/TeamVoodoo.html)
Voodoo knobs fit slightly lower on the shaft, they are also heavier which aids in changing gear.
Miata site that shows all the voodoo's really well (http://www.thompson-automotive.com/voodoo.html)

This is the VooDoo I have:
(Images of other knobs from the internet, these are not my actual car pics) :)
http://www.thompson-automotive.com/i//Voodoo_knob_Pearl_cropped2tn_.jpghttp://img107.imageshack.us/img107/6546/p10208152tq.jpg
The magnum Voodoo knob is a 2 inch sphere of solid aluminum, spun finished, then clear powdercoated to produce our pearl finish. It's specially drilled mounting hole provides a quick & easy short-shift conversion, and it feels great in your hand. A must for every sportscar enthusiast!

I might add that the Voodoo was designed specifically for the MX-5 and based on the similar Ferrari design. Several different weights were tried and studied for vibration, inertia etc. Nothing comes close for feel. I also had a Momo but the Voodoo left it for dead.

The only place I know of that sells the Voodoo's is MX5Mania (http://www.mx5mania.com/)
Voodoo Gear Knobs
The gear knob of choice for MX-5 owners around the world. Machined from a solid billet of aluminium in the style of classic Ferarri's and Formula 1 cars, Voodoo gear knobs are designed to enhance gearshift feel and accuracy. Available in a variety of finishes: polished, spun, pearl, textured black and polished black. Price (AUD) from $60.00

I believe Arden obtained a knob from Mania so maybe he will comment.
If anyone is ordering anything from MX5Mania, can you please get me:

Voodoo Knob Trim Ring
The trim ring is a small, smart looking finisher piece for all standard size Voodoo gear knobs. Price $12.00

Unfortunately, I am unable to order anything from MX5 Mania so I would really appreciate it if anyone is placing an order to get in touch with me because I also want the hardtop hoist.
Pretty Please????

There's also RAZO which is similar:
http://www.carmate-usa.com/html_razo/razo_shift_m_aluminumround.htm

I might start a gear knob thread and cut and paste this info into it.
