So this afternoon the misses and I decide to travel into the city for dinner and a night out, when driving along the highway a stray dog runs and stops still in my lane! Fortunately I knew there were no cars to my immediate left or right so I was able to swerve and dodge the poor thing. It then made its way accross to the other side safely. If that wasn't enough to get the heart pumping, 5 minutes down the road at a set of lights, I was the last car which could fit before a set of traffic lights and an intersecting road when a car decides to move up behind me blocking traffic from the intersection. I hear alot of beeping and look around to see the car behind me and the driver who seemed to be making all sorts of crazy hand gestures at me, with no clue of what he's saying I quickly throw my hand in the air. He then decides to get out of his car, mosey on over to mine and give me a nice little rap about me not moving forward for him to fit so he's not blocking traffic, which I tried to explain, there is no room for me to move forward. The lights then turned green and I let him know the traffic was moving and took off slowly, but while I was moving away I hear alot of smashes and bangs. He smashed my driver side rear window and kicked the driver side door and quarter panel!
Later down the motorway he catches up to me, pissed off I give him the finger and he starts to swerve at my car repeatedly, missing my car from atleast no more than 30cm! I noticed his wife in the passenger side was packing brownies and screaming at him while I noticed 2 kids in the back of the car  My gf told me to turn off at the next exit at the last minute just to make sure he can't follow. I did so and he didn't follow... We spent the night in Parramatta instead.
The driver had a Blue Mazda 6 and license plate was, AWO-22C.

Ahh I cannot believe some people. What the F%&K goes through theirs heads. To think that he also had children in the car at the same time he was doing these things makes me mad. I know you're both probably shaken up but at least you are your gf are okay and he didnt do any damage to you

I'd go and report him to the police if I were you, especially if you know his rego number. What a clown, people like that need to take a long drive off a short pier (with no kids in the car of course).

Always report these things, he may have been drinking or doing drugs which is why you MUST always make the report asap
Especially when damage has been caused to your car
I would also notify your insurance company to get the damage repaired (as its not your fault it wont affect you or your rating)
Take your car to get fixed at his expense, thats a wonderful way to get back at these pricks
Bad story though I hate to hear of **** like this, imagine how is wife and kids must feel

Road Rage Strikes Again!!!
I agree, you should report this incident especially as you have the number plate. Tell the officers that the wife was upset at him and the kids were scared.
You also need to report it so you can get insurance to cover the malicious damage he caused.
Please let us all know how you get on with it.
Best of luck

being a father myself, i prefer seeing idiots with kids like that off the road. or at least punsihed for his stupid ways.

Definitely report it and then lodge a claim through the insurance company ... they will then sue his arse for the cost of your repairs ...
and if you're willing to go further with the cops you have him for smashing your car up and dangerous driving ;)

Well, I spoke to the police this afternoon and after a lengthy debate, it came down to nothing can be done about it but thanks for the notification. I'll talk to my insurance company tomorrow. My boss said we'll start repairs tomorrow morning on her as well.

You need a Trunk Chicaboo next time this happens. It knows how to apply equal and proportionate recompense to such a person/person's car on the spot! ;)
Seriously, report him to your insurance!, Someone here may be able to do a Cytex? search on his number plate. That gives you his address and some other particular details. :)
AWO-22C will pay!

Insurance companys love this because in alot of cases They score twice, usually by getting you to pay excess ontop. but in most policies if you get there rego - they chase for you. it's why you pay premium.
but I would let him know how stupid he is. I have to say Good on you.
I know most people don't as I don't fit in the Astina so it's prety obvious I ain't going to stand anywhere and not throw a few.
Anyone who can do that is a winner in my book. I can't and can tell you sure I got my friends car fixed all for what $1200 yet - I payed solicitor to keep me out of prison and on good behaviour almost 10 times that. Even though He was drunk over the limit bigger and uglier
One thing the mobile can help with is follow them and call the cops at the same time. I got done pre mobile. but yes it does pay to think smart.
I think the number plate should be listed everywhere.

I reckon the cops are useless as s#!t if they reckon they cant do anything about this...
I mean you have a DAMAGED CAR and Rego number to prove it was him.... I'd take it further, dont let the f@&k wit get away with it.
No-one deserves to have their car damaged for being on the right side of the law and then not having the law stick up for them.

All you have to do is file a report to the cops and then give the number plate to insurance company. They do the rest. Its a sad world that people can't just chill out in traffic. I don't know why people get so worked up. It always pays to take the right line though. I have had a few altications with 4WDs in carparks who want to drive up the wrong way and then not give way either and I have wanted to get out and do a few choice things but you just gotta remember they are an idiot and all I need to remember is karma does exist, I have seen it and what goes around, comes around.

If you can give an accurate description of the driver, the car and its location at that time I don't see why the police can't do anything.
He essentially fled the scene of an Accident,
Smashed window and two dented panels would mean atleast $500 thus cops should be involved.
You where fleeing for your own safety so your fine.
If he drove into your car, started threatening you and your wife then terrorised you while driving down the friggin road, surely their would be something illegal there.
I would enquire about charging them with Assualt, willful damage to property, willful endangerment,
Just a suggestion but before seeking advice ask for the officers name write it down "I just need it for my insurance paper work", less likely to fob you off as it might come back and bite em.
Almost lastly,
How did he smash the window? if he used a fist he would be cut up, tis hard to kick a car three times while it moving off so I doubt he kicked the window in, which could mean he was carrying something.....
Lastly,
In what suburb did you see this degenerate??

If the police won't do anything, contact your solicitor and see if you have a case for civil action.
Sue this meat head.
Nothing I hate more than road ragers... so we all get frustrated on the road, yell a bit, flip the bird, but getting out and kicking the crap out of your car is just not on.

There are some real crazies out there!
You have a case against him of malicious damage, and don't forget to stress a few times over that you were in fear for your life - get it written in if you can to the report.
I hope your insurance company backs you up on this.
Good luck!!

I believe he hit the window with a closed fist but with the side of the hand because of the big oily smudge he left. The window didn't smash into pieces, just a nice crack in it.
We were driving down the Cumberland Highway, and waiting at the lights for the turn off for the M4. There were 6 or so cars in front of me so it was a crawling take off.
The window has already been replaced and the quarter panel fixed up. We'll probably do the door sometime tomorrow. Lucky I still work at a panel shop i 'spose.
I forgot to mention I have only third party insurance, so I can't chase him up for any damages. However I will call the police again and see if there is anything at all which can be done about it. I wouldnt say i'm even angry, pretty much just shocked.

Third party insurance just means you can't get the insurance company to pay for the damages and chase on your behalf
you still OWN the property, therefore you can chase him for the damages in a civil action (not sure how you'd go with getting his address, but a firmly worded solicitors letter is usually all it takes to intimidate these meat heads - you'll likely settle it out of court)

Also a lot of third party policies will chase down something like this if the offender can be identified.

I know these situations, it's how I got out of a few different things. Problem is if you don't have these people as friends it's not worth it.
see in some cases a good lawyer will know a PI who will know how to find out.
I did a bit of PI work when I was just doing tafe, it's very borring.
the main thing you can do is report it and follow it up. but if you ever see that car follow it home or too work what ever, you might get lucky.

I know the police tend to annoy people when they have the wrong attitude, but guys, be nice to the coppers?
Who gets called when you're in the $h1t?
Who gets called when you're house has been broken into?
Who gets to see road carnage by attending accidents?
Who is one of the most hated professions, almost as bad as dentists?
Why would a person choose to be a police officer?
People don't join the police force because they're an a$$hole.
These are people who are low paid for high risk work and they do it because they want to help the community as a whole. They spend so much time running around and 9 times out of 10, the criminal will get off on a technicality.
Police are people too, they have a heart and mind and emotions.
As in any business or industry, you have a$$holes but don't perpetuate a stereotype.
Give them a chance because honestly, the police men and women I have met, are trying to do the right thing and help the community.
I understand that sometimes we all get angry at things that happen but it's a thin blue line. I've had my fair share of dealings with police, and I find that if you talk to them like people and give a bit of respect, they will do the same to you. If you get pulled over for speeding, you are breaking the law - the law that we all know the rules of and we break it anyway, they are doing their job.
Police, Fire and Ambulance are among the hardest working and lowest paid members of our communities.
I'm sorry, I just don't like to see people bagging out the police based on a few personal incidents. No one gets on a forum and posts about the great police officer that helped you when you were in trouble, we only post about the so and so that pulled me over and defected my car etc.
All of that said, yes there are tired, overworked, grumpy, crabby officers out there that are sick of being abused and called pigs and having things thrown at them and chasing down some offender. These people will get shirty at you if you give attitude, and even sometimes when you don't!!
Please, I ask everyone, please do not bag out police as a whole or as a stereotype.
We don't like being called hoons or being stereotyped as ricers, so lets not do the same to ther people ok?
Sorry to hijack your thread atomic, and good to hear you are getting your baby fixed up.

True,
cops don't make rules, and our system is designed to let ten criminals go free instead of one false persecution,
I would suggest speaking to your local member they should be able to have a good winge to someone and possibly get something done, prob nothing for you personally but I see a crack down on road rage as an easy vote getter and if the cops really are powerless here well goddamit something should be done about it,
LordWorm

Oh definantly..its the system thats at fault.
System ties the beat cops' hands, makes the roads less about saftey and more about raising revenue...and its the system that ALLOWS the few "nazi" cops out there the power which some of them abuse (and there are some).
*however* as a tax paying citizen, you have a right to expect more than a "Nothing will come of it, so we're just not going to try" attitude.....you deserve them to at least get in touch with this clown and put the fear of god in him for his trouble.
But then, that would constitute police harrassment, or something....
But yeh, the whole policing system as a whole has been nudered by disfunctional legal and state government systems which have forgotten its very purpose.....

If you had full comprehensive insurance he would be made to pay, not just for the window but the other damage as well
Think about the small cost of insurance and the many ways it can benefit you
Now is it a cost thats worthwhile
Saying you cant afford insurance should be translated to "I cant afford not to have insurance"

Indian cop punished for cricketer's fine
http://www.smh.com.au/news/WORLD/Indian-cop-punished-for-cricketers-fine/2007/01/14/1168709595853.html
An Indian traffic policeman has been transferred for not realising that celebrities are sometimes above the law and trying to fine one of the country's biggest cricket stars, newspapers report.
Inspector Saifuddin Ahmed thought he was just doing his job when he stopped an expensive sports car in the eastern city of Ranchi for having dark tinted windows - an offence in India.
But sitting behind those windows was cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, one of India's hottest celebrities and a hero in his home state of Jharkhand, of which Ranchi is the capital.
Early reports said an unfazed Ahmed insisted Dhoni hand over the 900-rupee fine ($A26).
Local police have since backpedalled, saying Dhoni was allowed to drive on after waving a letter from local authorities giving him special dispensation to break the law.
Ahmed has now been transferred in what is an apparent demotion from the downtown commercial district to a downmarket residential bazaar, the Hindustan Times reports.
The state's chief minister was reported as saying that celebrities should expect special treatment when it comes to the law, a widely held notion in India's upper echelons.
"The police should be liberal while dealing with persons of his stature," Madhu Koda was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
"What is the harm if a person of his standing uses a car with tinted glass windows?"
