Before you start... no, it's not for me.
As I have mentioned previously, my gf's head unit is not working (some JVC type)... she took it to JVC and they said the 'crystal' needs replacing. They want $171 to fix it, but she only paid $240 for it just over 1 year ago!
Anyways, her friend has this deck...the sony for sale.. i know it's the low low spec deck, and i am trying to convince her NOT to buy it...but what do you guys think?

The question is, is it worth forking out 100 for the sony deck (it is over 1 year old), or should we fix the JVC unit?

If they sony unit is ****e, i have a ripper phillips head unit (unit for navigation) in my room that i will put in her car.

This is my opinion... sony = crap :evil:

I would put a "slam audio" cd HU in before I put a sony in there....

But that's just my opinion.... Plus i bet your phillips looks a hell of alot better than that awful red and silver piece of poo...


My personal favorite is pioneer, but that's just me....

i disagree. Sony HUs and amps arent toooo bad. Not the best, but nothing wrong with them imho.

Sony speakers, on the other hand are crap from my experiences and also what I've heard. You could possibly find that most electronics people could replace the crystal for you. It'll void any warranty, obviously, but its possibly a standard crystal on the PCB. Not hard to replace, but maybe hard to identify what kind of crystal, and maybe hard to get to :?

thanks guys... my cousin and i installed the sony deck last night... seemed to go very well... this morning my gf reports the HU not receiving the cd... disk error... i'll have a play with it tonight, but she wanted a cd player before they left for swan hill tomorrow morning!!
oh well.
