... it was a clear black night ...
Actually about 2 AM, and I was just minding my own business when I noticed a Civic pull out of a service station behind. Driving along, the Civic is right on me not throught the corners  Get to a set of lights and I notice that the guy in the Civic is lookin at me, OK fine by me.
Before you know it we pull up to the next lights (Red offcourse, perfect timing) and off we go.
I DIDN't :? beat him, nor did he beat me we got up to about 110. Afterwards, got chatting while driving, his passenger pointed out to me that his car was putting out 120Kw, (1.8 ltr Vti, was lowered, rims, body kit, huge loud exhaust, btw I was the only one in my car).
I am quite happy to say that a 98kw car keeping up and not loosing to a 120kw is damn good in my books. Just my 2 cents.

but I do think I was at the point from where he would start to beat me. But still its all good.

That 120 kw sounds pretty dodge to me, as a vti is only a SOHC vtec (not sure of the engine code), and in New Zealand the new i-vtec 1.7 SOHC only puts out 97kw. The JDM spec b18c (DOHC vtec) puts out 132kw, with a significantly higher rev limit and torque than any SOHC.
My 2 cents :D

He mentioned it being a 1.8 Ltr? Is there no such thing?

Civic is a 1.6. If it was a VTi, then yea u should have a comfortable run. Race a VTiR and u'll get your ass kicked. VTi is VTEC but not highly tuned, just a decent 1.6.

92-95 model vti is 1.6
The later models have a 1.8L

I have been trying to find details on the 1.8 Ltr Vti motor (Kw/Nm etc) but no luck, any help?
Also does anyone have a power curve for the SP20 motor? I just wanna try and figure out what would be the best range for gear changes etc.
Thanks

You should be able to feel the torque fade at the upper level of a gear. (I'll guess & say around 4,600 to 5,500).
That's when you snap the change!
5500?? hehe, try 6000 to 6500... depending on what mood you are in.
as for street drags, i don't bother.. there are plenty of NA cars out there that would leave the sp20 far behind, so i just push them along the twisties, and it's more fun!
oh, i drove down to yarra glen on friday night, so windy! it's a fantastic drive, esp dodging branches that have fallen b/c of wind and rain. i was a bit scared when a big Duc flew straight past me in a tight and slippery part.

Like you said Kyra, plenty of NA cars that are quicker.
But the ride is a whole different ball game, which comes back to what I wanted to do. I need some advice on how to lower the car, and still keep its mad ride. What parts, where? who? $$?
emm, i've got king springs 'low' on my car. they are pretty good, not too harsh a ride... i got them 2nd hand off 'former' (hehe) astinagt member. apparently only 3 months old, and i got them very cheap... absolutely no complaints from me :D
the 'super low' king springs would be too too low, considering i am starting to scrap the front.
Eibach would have been nice too, but $$$.
I think one of the other guys here has Pedders springs on his sp20.
I dare say you will be up for 450+ for fitted springs with alignment.

Springs. Just Springs? No new shocks? Also I was thinking about a strut bar? I know there is one with the SP20, but is it better to get a thicker one? or won't make any difference?
Also sway bars for under the car? or no point there either? ?

It may have been a Civic VTiR with the B16A 1.6 DOHC motor which puts out around 120kw. With big wheels it would slow him down so that would seem about right
Civics have only ever been released with 1.3 ,1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 but never a 1.8 unless some guy has put an Integra motor in it.
Also power doesnt always make you win a race... Torque is what you need to win races from 0-120

Well, one thing I was happy about: the passeneger was boasting of having 120kw, but when I said my car 98Kw. The look on their faces was just priceless :P

Doesn't mater if the car has 120kw or 150kw, if the guy can't drive, change gears etc then he doesn't have a chance.
