Well... Fairlanes :) I sold that ZK ages ago for less than I bought it for :(... I got offered a ZH and said I'd take it only to have the owner say he wanted to keep it... damn... but just today I had an '85 ZL delivered :) I traded it for my '75 Kingswood ute.

2 cars now... the Astina and the Fairlane! The first thing I'm doing with the Fairlane is swaping the automatic box out for a 5 speed manual box out of an XF Falcon... same bellhousing... same tailshaft... identical firewall... should be good job :) Then theres the LPG to be fitted, and any engine mods... then the exhaust... then the wheels and brakes and so on... then the suspension... then the paint and any other little ideas... (I wanted to get the BA XR8 bonnet bulge grafted onto it... I've seen it done on an XF falcon it was awesome).

The guy that dropped the Fairlane off has offered the services of one of his employees with regards to the ECU.. we'll see about that. At the moment it doesn't even start real well... I feel the timing is fairly out however.

It says it has till the 14th May 2007 registration but he said there was no license plates to go with it.... huh? Well anyway once I get this thing registered and then converted to LPG I'm thinking about giving my parents the Astina... or putting it on the side of the road. My hearts just with Fairlanes ... the big ugly devils.

Will post pictures tommorow!!!

mmm push rods... should be fun!!
they do have v. low compression, i've wondered if it would be worth trying to bump up a bit...

are push rods and OHC the same thing?? Actually the opposite, theres no pushroads in an overhead cam motor. Correct me if I'm wrong :o

Push rods are not OHC but OHV;
Think of a V8, the V8 cam is in the centre between the banks of cylinders just above the crankshaft. The cam pushes on steel rods that in turn push on a lever, the other end of the lever then pushes down on the valve.
Usualy there are HLAs between the cam and the push rods. OHV engines traditionaly need a lot of work to get over 6000rpm but with that amount of power and torque why bother.

eddy, what's your main appeal with these "beasts"? is it a V8?
bcos honestly....they are BUTT UGLY! they're cars that old men drive, towing caravans up the pathetic hwy, and giving other motorists the ****s! lol ;)

Ohh bit harsh there Red Frog, I actually think it's a good thing that "young folk" are still getting into these big cars. Especially the somewhat unloved generation of Fords built during the eighties.

With all the concern over emissions, and fuel consumption it's going to become more and more important that a few enthusiasts keep the "spirit" of these cars alive.

Hear Hear Aaron!
Especially as the 80's era falcons had the very last of the Cleveland V8 factory installed. I still remember the first time I drove one of these beasts and I'll never forget it!

The Alloy Head II, who could forget the 96kw of power (with 320+NM torque).

I see hydros and a set to 200-spoke wire wheels with stretched rubber in the future for that Fairlane.

Thanks Cosmo. I always wondered what push rods were!

It seems like I'll have the Astina for a long time still...

:) Currently working on gather T5 conversion parts... then saving up to get it registered... then saving up to get it converted to gas.

Someone has to love them Redfrog :) Theres alot more too them than the elderly culture of a tame V8 luxury car. As well as the fact this is a six cylinder... I can't legally drive V8 cars. It's mainly the profile and appearance of the car that appeal to me so I guess we will have to agree to disagree :)

The six cylinder engine in the Fairlane runs on leaded but it's electronically injected however and is supposed to deliver 120kw rather than the carbeuretted 96kw 250ci's. I don't think the torque figure changed much if any?

Haha, well if the time comes and I have a decent occupation when it comes to suspension I should consider air bags or air cylinders but I dunno about hydros :P I want to try and hunt down something different for it like maybe some EL(falcon) GT rims or something... if not I'll try for some 16" 12 slotters... thats all in the future though. As for rubber... 235 on the front and 245 on the back.

I'm going to look into respraying and that one day but untill then I'm fine looking a bit rugged... I'm constantly thinking about money... I want to spend more than I have as it is! The more I think about it the more overwhelmed I get... mainly the T5 conversion but hey theres a first for everything. But this is going to be the car that Eddy built :)

Lol who knows... hahahaha, if only that was genuine Km's. Thanks for the suggestion chipa... and you made me realise what you said. So yeah :) The Astina needs new tyres on the back yet so that'll have to put the Fairlane back a tiny bit.

Any demos on that would look like?

Is it just me or is the forum a bit warped in regards to the posts and the order they were posted?

EF GT rims are still too common. EB GT rims however, lowered with a shmick paint job would look very special.

It's the 3rd digit on the odometre that's not showing apparently :P Could be as good as 230,015 or as much as 239,015. Hehe.
