Stinky was out and about with some friends today - he was told all about them by Misato (the MX5) after she visited them on Tuesday.

Anyway Stinky has come home and is now resting comfortably in the garage posing this question:

"Can you spot the differences?"

It's been a stressful day for us both but the results...... :D

The background of the pic doesn't count for this game ;)

I'm too lame with photochop to chop anything ;)

Yes it's five stud converted... Probably the only KJ Laser to have the conversion done and certainly the only Lynx I reckon.

So far it's running v6 front knuckles with the ex-Japan rotors and calipers, the ex-Japan rear hubs and rotors on the Laser rear knuckles.

As it turns out the knuckles would swap fine, but the KJ and v6 have very different ABS sensors and so after a few hours of mucking about we're at this combo.

Tips for anyone considering the swap:
Buy complete dressed front hub/rotor/caliper/knuckles that way you'll have everything. BUT for the rear just go to Mazda and buy new v6 hubs and get a pair of rear rotors from Greg. Basically all the rest os the same and it's less labour. Also if you buy used Knuckles for the rear and you want to get bearings the only source is Mazda, and they come as a unit with the hub. So therefore you're buying that part twice.

We had new bearings put in the front for about $80 a side, and still running the ex-Japan bearings a the rear which are fine.

The ex-Japan rotors are pretty pitted but have been cleaned up. 1L of brake fluid was used to bleed out the system and the ex-Japan pads were also reused.

This is becuase phase two of the project addresses braking properly.

The car is riding on the SP20 wheels Wiredone was selling, they're basically mint condition - only one wheel has a couple of chips, and the tyres are excellent.

It's been given a very "plain" alignment, simple straight and it works well, so much more balanced than before.

We won't talk about the cost though - it was a full days labour, plus parts...

Nice job, how did the offset workout?

The v6s normally run ~45mm, and the SP20 run 48mm, and it's very noticable that the wheels are "tucked" in a bit more.

However these wheels are only a temporary fitment, in the end we'll be running 35mm offsets with a much more open spoke design to give phase 2 some room to grow. BA Falcon XR8/6 alloys would for instance work perfectly....

One thing that I didn't mention is that the bigger brakes have made a difference, 276mm against the original 257mm.....
