Hey everyone.., i used to work for Keema Hyundai...key word being use to...you see i got terribly sick of the service manager thinking he could use me to clean his rug in his office once a day...(among other things the ass thought an apprentice should do)...but keeping in mind i loved keeping the work shop neat and clean...anyways we got in to a bit of a disagrement and i decided, despite liking the work and the mechanics there that i could'nt put up with him for 4 years solid so here i am looking for another apprenticeship mechanics position....getting right to the point if any of you guys up here in queensland have an opening for a 1st year mechanic with 2nd year knowledge of engines then let me know i would greatly appreciate it as sitting down all day is definetly more stressful then working...trust me...chers John

Hit up the job websites, suck as Seek [ www.seek.com.au ], CareerOne [ www.careerone.com.au ], Jobs Guide [www.jobsguide.com.au ] <--- Good for apprenticeships, MyCareer [www.mycareer.com.au ] and so on.
Most of these whill have sections for apprenticeships, and be able to get your name out to the right people.

Best of luck.

A little advice, bosses will always be asses.
You can look for work while you have a job (and a pay check).
Never tell a perspective employer that you left a job because you had an arguement with your old boss or that you were being given menial work. They will think of you as a trouble maker.

I had to empty the waste bins at work when I was a junior, sometimes they wouldn't all fit into the wheelie-bins and I had to manually compact some extra space so they would. Shaking the dust off a rug doesn't sound so bad if you don't have allergies... Unless "cleaning the rug" is something else I don't know about?

hahah his boss makes him clean his rug... terms for these kind of things always surprise me these days..

yeah laugh it up funny bunnies.....as a said before i liked keping the work shop clean... every morning i would start work at 6:45 an d clean out all the mechanics bins (14 to be exact) and for anyone that has seen how small i am lifting wheelie bins over the top of a giant bloody truck bin is quite difficult...lol rug..na he had this oriental rug and everytime he called a mechanic in it would get dirty...once he even made me take my boots off before entering...what a dick
EDIT: it wasnt dust i was cleaning up,,,it was oil and grease with this highly potent lemon spray...long story short he was a arrogant pig..who always had fights with the two foreman...

zappy, as others have said sometimes you gotta put up and mostly shut up. Yes he may be being unreasonable, but as part of the apprentice process (be it mechanics, military or any other **** kicker) you'll always find yourself prince of **** jobs, and unfortunately it's only the depth that will vary.

If you're keen, and you obviously are, a good boss will recognise that and harness it, something that your ex boss didn't do.

As for apprenticeships stuff get in touch with Centrelink - they'll point you in the direction of Job Network Member who will be able to help you out, the system is free to use and your taxes provide it, so take advantage of it. A Lot of trades work does get advertised through Job Network and the other services they offer can also help out.

a lot of jobs don't get advertised - this is the biggest problem - your doign teh right thing by applying - are you going in person to places, to discuss things with them, even when they might be in the market for apprentices?

and if you have to then hey, maccas is an easy pay cheque while you look around

are you going in person to places, to discuss things with themWhen I was a young fella my dad convinced me to do the "go and present yourself in person" introduction. And unfortunately for me, most potential employers would make a point of telling me how busy they were and didn't really appreciate me dropping in on their door like that...

EDIT: I also used to put on a bit of a false impression back in those days too. I had so much advice going this way and that telling me how I should present myself that I forgot to be me... When you're older you just rock up knowing what you can and can't do and roll with it without a care in the world. :)

And unfortunately for me, most potential employers would make a point of telling me how busy they were and didn't really appreciate me dropping in on their door like that... Have you ever tried to get a service manager on the phone?

its something that you need to judge for yourself and have confidence, even asking if it would be possible to make a time with them regarding the job your after... thats how i became an optical mechanic and then got a job in Brisbane, by going to people rather than waiting for the ads!

but then again i didn't say go to the top, i said go to the places - and don't ask the pit fall questions, like have you got any work going, or do you need work, instead ask someone, when they would be likely to hire apprentices and tell them you'd really like to work for :insert name here: because you'd heard they only employ the best, or some thing along those lines... or you want to learn from the best

and finally: apply for the dole today, if you need it then you need to apply now - as they won't pay it to you for aaages beacuse you voluntarily resigned, but they will back pay it

EDIT: I also used to put on a bit of a false impression back in those days too.

oh yeah don't suit up for a mechanics position - that just screams desperate... but do dress nicely, just a polo shirt and jeans will be enough and clean shoes!
