my rev limiter is 7200rpms on a BA.

It just basically closes the injectors untill the rpm is below the cut IIRC.

The guy that fitted my tyres on said he had found his cut out at 180, although this was the V6 I would still expect it to happen there in the 4 (if its true?)

I know some of the turbo guys have gone well over that...

Ive had my 97m BA 1.8L to just over 200kph without it cutting :P I think that speed limiter is only on the j-spec models

I've had mine beyond the 200km/h mark, took a long road. J-spec cars are limited to 180km/h, changing to an Aussie 240Km/h speedo would probably fix that.

I cant realy see myself planning to go over that 180... ;-)

I thought so too, but mine is stock and it has broken the 200kph boundary too without cutting :)

i believe the cut-off is controlled by the ECU, before any signal gets to the dial cluster.

i cant say for sure coz i dont know. but i do know my Apexi RSM does it, and it seems to do it by intercepting the signal to/from the ecu...

no speed cut on the australian delivered cars..

Even if there is a speed cut on your car just cut the wire to it.

i had mine pre-turbo up to 205kph

with turbo only 160kph or something, but i'm curious to see how fact i can go with the close ratio gearbox as i reckon i'll run out of gears before i run out of power...

An old one but the soft cut comes in just over 6500 on the BJII 1.8L. You'll only want to hit it once to find out what it is.

Don't worry about ever getting to the cut in terms of outright speed (unless you've got a loooong road with a 50 - 60km/h consistent tail wind). I've only ever gotten to 175. There may well be more there but I ran out of road.

A sprint between roundabouts, a back road in Rye, and a long straight bit in Mt Martha are my attempted stretches.

All of the 'more' suitable stretches of freeway are regularly patrolled/radarred and I'm too lazy to recce before trying.

If you can suggest an alternative I'd be interested to find out how much more is there, but I'm tipping not much as she's not gaining speed much up there.

Yeah,
I had the ol' VN work wagon cranking along the freeway down their at Max speed for about 5km. The streach from Balnarring Rd to Nepean Hwy is down hill and probably lined with speed traps. Keep your foot down untill Bittern Rd and you should reach terminal velocity before the drive in :D and probably be met with a police roadblock, just for you  ..|..

Damned Hoons! :x

There are 3 regular speed trap points within that stretch, as well as the new markings for aerial surveillance. :o

Still there are numerous spots where the imperial ton can be broken on a regular basis with impunity.

The fastest I've pushed the BA was on Dandy Hastings Rd.
I was travelling toward the city, came out of the Thompson’s Rd roundabout at about 80kmh and just pressed the go button into the firewall, passed the turf farm somewhere between 150 and the ton and the acceleration began to wane, by the time I reached the Cranbourne rail tunnel I had reached 200kmh (passing 4x4s at that speed is scary) and noticed a Holden doing a U-turn behind me  panicked and spent the next 800m giving the brakes grief but it wasn't Police.

Fastest I've had the Cosmo was 210kmh on the front strait of Calder during a sprint meet :D and a series IV Rx-7 passed me as if I was standing still :(

The Calder experience would've been the safer option but the front strait isn't 6km long ..|..
