Hello joyfull happy people,
If it wasn't enough that the drive to dorrigo cost me an exhaust, 2 blown shocks diagonally opposite (so have to replace all 4) my bumpstops, and my trolley jack, all totalling over $1000 - now this has happened to the SP18 today: Someone struck my car while parked near work, which resulted in a creased bumper and broken mounting clips, headlight brackets have snapped (these are part of the headlights!) and hopefully there isn't any more damage underneith that I can't see... :(

I will be putting up a WTB ad to chase up an SP20 bumper, so please if anyone can help direct me to a bumper with no creases or broken clip guides, I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers,
Gav.

oh Gav
I'm so sorry to see someone has done such damage and not owned up to it.
Do you have insurance?
Please say yes.....
We're all here for you, feel free to vent and rant, we feel for you.

Thanks puss, apreciate the support.
Insurance excess as I have noone to claim against is about $1150, funnily enough it's so high because of the SP20 bodykit. Even though an SP20 bumper costs bugger all more than a 1.8s... Anyhow, I have spare lights, and I will just need to buy new mouting clips AGAIN, then get a new or 2nd hand bumper and have it painted. So $600 should see me looking new.
I actually got scraped yesterday at the Hyperdome too, but it polished out thankfully. Definately not been my year so far...

Hard luck bud. Happens all too frequently these days. Shame. Maybe contact local council and see if there was a cctv camera pointed the right way when your car was hit? A couple of phone calls could save you some serious dosh.

All: I really don't think the car will get fixed any time soon, it's basically been parked for the last 4 months until I am well enough to fix what was already wrong with it. hopefully the Laser will be back up and running next week and the SP18 can go back to resting until I have the cash to fix the flywheel, bottom end and now this lot...

Truly sucks when people do that, also sucks when people see someone do it, and pretend they didn't see it either. I saw a guy openly stealing stuff out of a car..while the alarm blared and two families either side completely ignored him. There were people everywhere and they were all pretending not to see anything.

one word FEAR and no matter how badass you are theres always something around the corner to make you shrink...
welcome to the society that always leaves it up to someone else to fix the problems ... Gav, I can sympathise ... ages back I was in Civic and returned to my car to find that someone had reversed into the front of my Prelude so hard that the right hand side of the bumper had nearly fallen off and the headlight couldn't open (that's how I noticed the damage)
i'm also a firm campaigner for justifiable road rage ... 1 offence permitted per person per month ... I think it's reasonable

a bit off the point there was just an article in the latest Autosalon about a Commodore driver and a dude in a Landcruiser..as a witness had well witnessed...the Commodroe driver was in the left lane and wanted to be in the right one (lol) so he merged without an indicator and without checking his blind spot. The Landcruiser had to slam on his brakes engulfing everyone on the surrounding road with tyre shreds. The Landcruiser dude then decided to get out of his car and repeatably hit him in the face through the window..He then pulled the driver out of the commodore and kicked him in the chest a few times causing hospitalisation....Now everyone reading this may find this harsh but i would have done the same...I hav been in a serious car crash before because of an drunken idiot and its not pretty. People should take responsibility for there actions...its not hard to look behind you for a second to make sure it clear little lone the indicators that are there for a reason...and lets face it, they save lives...its also not hard to look behind you when you reverse in a shopping mall or down a driveway (which happened to me by the idiot neighbour last week)..the moral of the story is at least we all here are motor enthusiast and even though society as a whole despises us it is very rare that a large number of us will ever break the law and i bet we all look behind us when we reverse...thanks for reading my ramblings...now back to Gav's ****ty misfortune...take it away Gav..

It wasn't only families...there were couples....and most of the people around were unfortunately guys. And yes we blocked his car in (non obviously) and called the police....there are undercover guys there...unfortunately..he took off and abandoned his car..so we waited a bit..but the cops couldn't find him...not sure if they got him later. BUt yeah people can always call the cops...if they are scared. I can't remember who said it but the phrase "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" seems pretty prevalant.

Thanks kiddies.
Although I have quite an anger myself, I think using yourself or car as a weapon towards someone who ALMOST hit you with their car, is entirely retarded. To me that logic sort of COMPLETES what ALMOST happened when you stop to think about it. Sometimes we have a brain fart and bad stuff happens, but if you were trying your best at what you were doing, you still stuffed up, but it's not like you meant it...
Anyhow, what happened to me isn't one of those situations. And since they did hit my car on a nice big wide road with gross negligence, and had I been there if I couldn't use myself as a roadblock to stop them for their details (numberplate), I would love to repay their kindness as they drove off until I was satisfied to the tune of my my repair bill...
You watch this thread, as the height of their rudeness, I wouldn't be surprised if they say to their insurance company that I hit them and try and recover damages from me! I've seen this happen to ppl before in my lifetime. This is my public record preceding that event should it ever occur.

It was Edmund Burke, and all those whom have stated it or some such similar are correct, things have been getting worse. However, please don't think the moron in the landcruiser was in any way justified in beating a man into insensebility for cutting him off. We all make mistakes, i've cut people off before, never intentionally (well maybe that bastard in the commodore but only cause he did it first), and believe you me, I look. Not only do i check my mirrors but i do a head check (glance through the windows) before changing lanes or just to make sure theres no one there at random intervals. An old habit aquired from riding motorbikes for the last 10 years, but in all that time believe me mistakes have been made.
Be aware of others, be sensible to their errors, and if some idiot cuts u off and has the Hutzpa not to apolgise, think of all the sh*t he is heaping on himslef by acruing all that bad Karma.
Gav, hope thinks turn around soon. Peeps, lets not kill each other for not much good reason.

It is sad that we live in a society were over half of the citizens believe that they can’t be held responsible for there actions and are not responsible. The bulk of these fools think that violence wins over. Oh how wrong they are.

OK, to say violence never sorted anything out is childish. It has, shed loads of issues. Don't believe me? Look for Carthage on the map, or Nagasaki. Violence certainly does sort issues out. The point being made is that it never sorts them out well. The Roman empire is dust and America is sick and dying, fast following in its footsteps. Violence begets violence. The next time some wanker cuts u off, think long and hard before you get out and decide to break his head, u might put him in hospital but more then likely depending on his background, his family will come gunning for you and yours..... what then? u reciprocate? where does it end? When the guy with the biggest gun blows the most people away? Sorry bud, not in my town.

There are a bunch of topics that will always get heated responses (and misspelt responses like Skitz's;))
Gav, have you got a price for the front bar yet?
Have you found out how many clips and brackets you may need?

Tina: One of the clips is part of the headlight, the other is a break-away design (which is why everyone's bumpers sag when it bends) and it is cheap to fix at about $7. I have a spare set of black headlights, so I just need to get the shagged clip. So that's easy done. Where the screws were torn from the r/h guard, I can just persuade that area to go back as it should be with a rubber mallet! :D
The only other problem is the stiffening brace under the bumper, which is $58.91 at ozeparts. It's not essential that I have this, although it helps the bumper keep it's shape and prevent it sagging in the middle under it's own weight. Although with my trusty hot glue gun I could prolly get this good enough to work again...
A front bar from ozeparts with member discount is $407.88 (same price as a regular 1.8 bar!). :( Lucky I don't need to buy a headlight, as they are $283.14 each! I love my SP20 bar, but if I can't get one cheap enough I may have to consider Mike's suggestion. Damn, I hope the old front bar hasn't gone to $#!T sitting out the back of the house! :p The old bar had scrapes on it, although these might be able to be concealed by Rupe's Fieldbreak? The biggest problem is adapting the foglights to the Fieldbreak and getting the unit to bolt up to the bumper at any rate.
Mike, have you got pics of the Fieldbreak test fitting to your sister's car? Or do you remember what was involved to get it to go on? If am really lucky the JDM Titanium grey (25G) is the same as mine, and nothing will need to be painted... :)

Dan's gonna sell me the Fieldbreak. This is not my prefered option, as the car won't feel like an SP18 to me anymore (and fitting will be a nightmare). However I won't need to paint it or the old 1.8 bumper, and it is the only one in Australia! Downside is going to be getting the foglights to fit, as it didn't come from japan with brackets or any sort of mounting clips, so things will need to be fabricated...

Hey Gav, bad luck about getting hit. I feel your pain, when my missus was up in sydney a couple of weeks ago with our bombadore, some old bloke backed into it in the car park, right into the rear quarter.
If you need me to do anything with the fieldbreak bar before Dan sends it up let me know and I'll cruise up there and check it out. I can't believe he is finally going to sell it!! He's had that bloody thing since I became a member of AGT!!

Alan: If you wanna get tricky I could post you my foglights with the brackets and you could have a crack at making something up? I'm thinking they will just bolt up to the black grills that fill the area where the 1.8s foggies would normally go.... I guess you could put contact on your bumper to prevent scratches from the clips to nowhere on the Fieldbreak. But you've got a baby and stuff so I wouldn't want to put you out, paid or otherwise.

UPDATE: I removed the buggered front bumper and headlights today, and put the spare black headlights on with the old bumper. Since the old bumper is creased so badly (even split in places), I removed the foglights, and I'm actually going to cut the foglight tunnels/rebates/recesses/tubes out of the old bumper, then glue them into the back of the Fieldbreak. This means the foggies will fit to the Fieldbreak in the exact same manner in which they do to the SP20 bumper, and function the exact same way! :)
The bro in Hong Kong is working with me on the wonky black headlights...
