Ill give ya a tip,get it done professionly  Me and a mate done it on his 83m 323 and it turned out alright, but not as good as it would be professionally :P
Pay the extra man and do it right the first time
i have never seen a self-tinted car actually look good. maybe at first, but after time it tends to look purple and bubble.
get it done properly in my opinion. its not that expensive anyway :D
Ive seen guys that work at a tint joint do my mates car in their garageat home! they wet all the walls down with a hose that was on a fine spray! then vaccumed the car very well took of the door trims cleaned the windows and then sprayed them with a fair bit of water! they had a smooth board to put the tint on and keep the dust of it! it looked like a lot of effort to keep the dust from getting between the glass and the tint! + they had the tint application tools!
To much work if u ask me! just get the pro's to do it!
That way you can enjoy the warranty!

I tinted my ol' FA4TS 323, wish I'd left it to the pro's. I removed the glass, cleaned the glass then cleaned the glass with acetone. Then sprayed a mist of water onto the glass and applied the film to the glass before smoothing out all the bubbles. when I was satisfied I stored the glass in the shed over-night.
Next day I trimmed the film and re-fitted the glass to the car.
Looked good for about 2 months :(

yeah - given that you can get a lifetime warrantied film applied professionally for something like $250 and have the ability to whinge if there is dust or install problems I'd say paying a pro is the way to go.
Most of the tint available to DIY is the crap stuff that does turn purple, bubble and generally go off. The professional stuff is harder to apply well.. (thicker and less flexible on curved glass)

My recommendation would be to get it done professionally (unless you have the know-how and tools). Tinting is very competitive these days and you can possibly get the whole car done for less than $200 with warranty and in a reasonably dark level (depending on car size).
*ducks for another not so useful contribution*

Hey ppl, My bro in law is a pro tinter and will do cash jobs on the weekend in really good quality tint..... going rate for like a 323 sized car is $180. Remember this is the good tint which has a 15yr warranty and would normaly cost well over $400.....
anyhoo,

I once got a quote for my 85 Corolla for $350 from Tinit-A-Car.
I found a car detailer/Tinter who had done it for years & just started up a business. He quoted me $180. I was a bit worried but let him do it & it was an A-class job in darkest legal tinted. I had it for 12 months, then wrote off the car, but til that day it was like new. Don't worry bout the price, just the quality of tint & the guy doing it. Check out his work first if possible. :D
