i am buying these

17" X 7" 4X100 40 offset and need to pick from the following ruber...

Pirelli Dragon $275 X4 $1100 (have heard that they have a lot of road noise but are durable)
Bridgestone G3 $280 X4 $1120 (currently using these and love em)
Dunlop(goodyear) sport maxx $260 X4 $1040 (bang for buck these were recomended)
Falken FK452 $190 X4 $760 (cheap performance this was recomended)

so whats good whats better and whats crap.... and am i being ripped off?

go the falkens...cheaper but will still be a good tyre...its funny i can get a set of falkens in 17s for around $130 each :p

yeah, but Falkens are generally soft, so he'll bitch when he only gets 15000kms out of them. ;)

i'd say the G3s or Dunlops.

see i am bitching that i got the G3's with 80% tread and there at 40% atm hahaha and they were put on at easter hahahaha so yeah i am a bit iffy at that..... but they were an awsome tyre and i guss i drove to match.... so whats there performance/wet weather diff between the G3 and dunlop?

so if i could get 15,000 out of them i would say thats more than the G3's even though i do 1000-1200 a week

i am after the best over all and what would you guss get and why?

thx for that bourbs i will keep that in mind cheers ow and btw all prices above are including the 10% fee i am getting due to the finance... i am thinking of while i am at it adding a few other goodys on it too :p i get a few quotes on rear sway bars:P hahahahaha are they really worth the extra $$$ though?

Dunlops buddy. Brillinat traction, good wear, very smooth and you find when you smoke them they don't come off all chewed up like some other brands. Only had SAVA and bridgestones before so not much of a comparison but I really like the dunlops.

i've got fk-452s and they're awesome. Had them since august. About 13,000 kms and the front tyres are about 40% worn and the rears still have the rubber things sticking out of them, and I don't drive sedately.

Also, can't do burnouts or anything on them very good because they have amazing amounts of grip.

yup ... you've just run into one of those areas where you can ask 10 people a question and get 10 different answers ...

having had a few of the uhhh "budget" performance tyres in the past, I found that Nankangs were actually pretty good ... had those for about 10 months (a good 15000km) before selling the Prelude ... and I've also had a few different Falkens ... I'd be saying go for the Falkens as they're honestly a good all round tyre ...

and from my experience of it, if a tyre is hard enough to not come off second best from doing a burn out, it's too hard

oh ... and on another note ... having run 215/35x18s on a Prelude for about 4 years, they weren't the reason for the ride being harsh ... the lowered suspension is what brought that on ...

hmmm i would still rather these in an 18 but was told it would affect the comfort of the ride.... hmmmm will it? is it better to stick with 17"?

ow and so this tyre thing is anoying hahahaha will the falcons be anywhere near as good as the G3's? like all round? keeping in mind if i get the falcons i will also get a rear swaybar with the money i save on tyres....

What about Toyo's? T1Rs get very good reviews. I've recently fitted Proxies4, and they've been quite exception so far. The other tyre i rate highly is the Dunlop Direzza. I had them on my BG, and they were very sticky. Best tyre i've used in the wet.

Yokohama, (formula GT??) are the worse i've used. On the edge of grip, they'd suddenly go, rather than a gradual progression. Shocking in the wet.

thats odd...i cant member what yokis i had but theyve been the best ive had...didnt have full tread and they were 2nd hand but they were awesome...

yokies really depend on which one you get ... different models act wildly different ....

as for the difference between 17" and 18" ... I went from 17x7.5 Simmons OM17 running 205/40x17 to 18x8 HP Designs running 215/35x18 ... there was absolutely bugger all difference to the ride quality, if anything I preferred the ride on the 18s ... and on the prelude they never scraped bumped or rubbed on anything

I remember chatting to tyre shop about it. Apparently the Yokos used to have a very soft compound. It would provide excellent grip all round, but wear out to quickly. Once they started to address the wear issues with a harder compound, they lost a lot of ground in the grip department.

Also ask around other places for prices, as those tyres should retail at $240-$250 for a good prices.

Also kumho are great for grip and wear. I currently run Kumho Ecsta SPT KU31 215/35ZR18 tyres and have only lost 2-3mm tread in 20,000km, and I use them for club level motorsports events.

they would be that cost man keep in mind the 10% mark up for the payment method :P so a 250$ one is 275...
