G'Day,
Thanks for the comments on my other post, I'm only here while testing a users machine for net problems (using my own account, not theirs ;) ). And I was wondering if anybody else has seen the ads for a live music show "Sponsored by the new Mazda 3"?

It looks good (the car that is, although the show looks alright too). Oh, well, better get back to work.

Ciao

supergirl
20-08-2003, 09:03 PM
I can't wait - i've already signed up for a test drive - the manager of my local dealership actually rang me and told me i'm the first in Brisbane to test drive the Mazda 3 of the public that is...

I read that the sp variant will have an output of 148kW much more impressive than the standard 98kW ... plus 18"s as standard ...

dfvadr

well with 148kw it must be the 2.3 are you a real supergirl if so do u wear ur undies on the outside?

Toyboy
20-08-2003, 09:56 PM
148kw out of a 2.3L,not to bad,but mazda is still far behind honda's technology
Doesnt the new Corolla sportivo have about that out of a 1.8L engine?correct me if im wrong :?
Its not saying much for mazda,i think they need to pull there finger out of there arses and start making some real motors with some balls

BigBoyLemonade
20-08-2003, 10:04 PM
I thought the 2.3L had 123kw (same motor out of the mazda 6)

yes but being a bigger bore the car would have more torque... power isnt everything remember

The Corolla needs it... drive it and u'll see its a tank.

Yea, i havent heard anything bout 140 odd kw in a 3, but a variant in the States will have the 2.3. Mazda Oz wants it, but not confirmed. I'd put my money on it though, theres so many hot hatches around now with 130-140kw that it will need at least the 123kw to stay in contention. There is smaller engines than the 2.0 being released overseas, but again Oz is attempting to get the 2.0 as base. Would be good.... need to for the marketing war with Pulsar having 2.0 etc.

On another note, I had the pleasure of having a Barina SRi for a night. Hot little car, handling is good, sits flat, just needs a bit more power. Is about the same as my car in straight line, but much better better body control through the corners.

OK, I will do it.....

Aaron's Renault is like OMG Habib!!!!!!!
It has 128kw and kicks Corolla Sportivo's butt, but as Brad says, it's a tank. The Renault does really well with most cars and surprises the others that don't know what it is initially
Sure the WRX can take the Renault, but it's the look of surprise on the drivers face when he or she realises that she's actually got to work for it and put the pedal down more than half way hahahahahahahahaha!

The Renault has every single little luxury I think they could cram into that itty bitty car, except heated seats!!

(everyone knows how my butt feels about heated seats!!)

What I liked was the drink holder has special air flow thingy's (technical terminology here) that push cold air around the plastic mouldings to keep your drinks cold for you!!

OH Habib!

Go and take a look at the car, where it is incidentally for sale...

kitty mate, i can't seem to understand your obsession with heated seats. just sit on the heater at home before you get it the car.

KittyKatSmack

Sandy mate.....

If you had my butt, not only would you be a very very lucky boy, you would know that my butt must be warm to be fully appreciated!

My butt does not look good when it's blue either!
Dressed in blue is a different story, we ain't going there.

And once you have sat in heated seats, then you will fully realise what I am going on about.

Try it, you might just like it.

Until then dude, leave me with my dreams and desires.

It could be a lot worse than heated seats, believe me

(no mention to be made about vibrating seats at this stage  )

I'm sure we'll just get a transplant of the M6 donk.... makes fiscal sense for Mazda as they'll only reduce the parts and training costs all round.

Still 123Kw and a decent lump of torque would be enough to make the car a nice drive.

What I can say is that power isn't everything. It comes down to gearing a torque...

The 124kw Renault is so quick becuase it has big flat chunky torque curve that basically gives it strong performance from about 1500rpm right through to 6500rpm... (limiter at 7250rpm) .. . Its competitors make more power but either same or less torque at silly high revs with very narrow bands.

The 'teg Type-R is quick, and probably the closest in outright speed terms, the 'Rolla is nothing more than ahighly strung skate with bugger all get up and go and even less handling........ ( a former Clio owner bought one beucase it had 5 doors and was cheap... he still posts ont he Clio furms occasionally and whinges ;) )

It does look good but I think I would have more fun and better looks
if I spent say 10k on my car than buying the 3. Mazda still haven't
got back to the great sporty sweeping curves of the S6 RX7 or the
BA Astina or MX6. The MX5 is close and the RX8 is good but still dont
look as sexy as the 94-98 cars.

The new Mazda 3 sedan kinda looks like a cross between the Vw Passat and Mazda6, which means it looks kinda classy. The hatch looks like trying to be a Alfa 147 (if you squint your eyes).

They look okay, but still have that "tall boy" styling to it. Was hoping they would go back to the design styles of the 94-98 BA series. The Mazda6 kinda resembles a larger and updated version of the BA astina hatch! :D

Funny you should say that.. as we have both those cars in the garage my father said exactly the same thing.. :D All he needs to do is lower it a bit..

Colour, anything but green, I'm not a green person :P
2.3 and manual tx
If it comes with 16s then I'll be happy with that (maybe paint them).
Lower the roof about 200mm.
CAi later into the warrenty.
Upgrade the speakers as req'd

Interior is quite nice. Sedan is an attempt at carrying over the dead-sexy RX8 design onto a cheaper car - the back is that upright, stubby, and frankly disgusting Jap look. As Mal said, the BA was a real standout- totally in proportion with very distinct lines, the BG was similar for its time with the wedge shape, 180SX style front and very funky interior (for its time - check out Laser's interior and u'll see that Mazda was wayyyyyy ahead in terms of interior design!), although it does look like a 10 year old car whereas the BA does not. The 3 is just another hatch with a nicer front, done by Mazda. New Astra will look similar to 3 but better, and with the hope of a 150kw turbo engine there would be a mighty nice drive considering weight will drop and hndling improved over previous model. New Focus has similar shape to 3, except has gone backwards over current Focus in design. Alfa 147 still can't be beaten. Gimme a hi-po 150kw 3 and maybe my mind would change......

BigMal
30-09-2003, 12:30 AM
I cant see either the 6 or the 3 being bigger newer BA hatch.
Maybe I am biased, maybe you are looking through beer goggles
but to me they are chalk and cheese. Both may be stylish but not
anything alike.
