well, i don't know if anyone else entered this competition
https://www.mazda.com.au/performancedriveday/
but i won the sydney draw :D

So on friday i get to thrash a 3mps, 6mps, mx5 and an rx8 around oran park for a few hours :)

Don't you worry, i'll be giving all of them the absolute flogging of their life. I've driven an rx8 and a 3mps before but that was with a dealer in the car... so it'll be good to see what these things can really do :D

Sweet. Just registered. Noticed there was a question of whether you hold a full manual licence. In SA there is no manual licence, or at least that I know of. I got my licence b4 some law changes so I may have missed that.

Which states do is there a manual licence seperate? Sory to change the topic, just curious.

Victoria had auto/manual licences back when I was tested (in a manual, with a 97/100 test score ..|..).
I registered yesterday for the Victorian experiance.

Same with QLD and NSW.

I would have thought it be the same everywhere. How can use test in an Auto car and be applicable to drive manual :S

And if you HAVE to go for the test in a manual then, what about those who can't access one or who simple do not wish to drive a real car :p Having said that some people should not be allowed to drive manuals - some poor poor gearboxes out there.

Some people shoudn't be allowed to drive at all :p

When I got my licence it was one standard test, or logbook which qualified you to drive both. I no that doesn't make sense but thats how it was, however im not sure about now. I got my licence in a auto, drove my folks' cars for a couple of years, both autos and then got my Astina in manual. Got the basic hang of it in 15mins and worked on making it smoother for the next month or so. Now its second nature.

OKKK well guess what everyone...in canberra you can go for a auto licence then wait 3years and automatically be upgraded to a full licence ;) so you can drive manuals...

which car was your fav?

mine was the mx-5

newman
14-07-2007, 07:32 PM
yeah the mx5 was awesome to drive... it was just lacking that little edge in the power i felt :(
i thought the 6mps was boring
rx8 and 3mps were my favs. i've never driven a rotary before, they are sooooooo smooth!

I miss my ol' 13B turbo. I almost found an RE Super Injection for the 929 once but it didn't have the ECU. Oh I miss the rotary engine.

i've been around rotaries all my life. so when compared to a series VII rx-7 twin turbo, the rx-8 seemed like a backward step. very comfy though.

you'll get two passes, one for yourself and one for a guest. the guest can go with you in the car (accept the mx5), but they can't drive...

SehnKhan
12-10-2007, 04:54 PM
Guest pass says they will not be passenger in any vehicle on my kit, but hey, rules change i guess. Probably allow it on the day though.

are you serious... that blows. in the photos i posted on page 1 you can see me and my partner both in the car. The reason i said you couldn't in the mx5 is because the instructor went in the mx5 and there is only room for 1.

perhaps they just think that victorias aren't responsible haha

Going next friday to Malala but so far no kit, should I worry? How close to the day do they arrive?

Also do you send it back or bring it with you on the day? I am slightly nervous about this, I really wanna go and don't want to be prevented due to some little thing.

If you re-read the thread you may see that the kit arrives very close to the day.
The kit contains a pass, a welcome letter and a waiver, all of which you need to take on the day. If you fail any of these steps then your Mazda will be crushed on site.

aaaahhhhhhh yeh.. man it was such a load of fun! The MX5 is such a surprising little car.. so well balanced and spritley as well..

MPS6 i've driven before but obviously not that hard.. that was very smooth and cruisy, the RX8 is so lineal in it's power delivery and it's a wonderful thing. I was flabberghasted at the MPS3, the raw delivery of power through the wheels is very much a rush, but unfortunately it loses puff at the top end dramatically.

The hot lap with Dick Johnson was great!!! He's so calm and collected, double clutching and not granny shifting like everyone else. Awesome fun..

Anyway, click to see the gallery i posted up here (http://www.mrpayner.com/gallery2/thumbnails.php?album=15). You'll see CosmoDude, Dutchy and myself in these pics..

How sensational!!!

RX8 was fantastic, so much fun, 3MPS was my favorite tho.

MX5 I was dissapointed with, didn't like it much at all. Lacks power and its not as agile as I expected.

And D.J, well what a champion, nice, friendly, pleasant, down to earth and a freak of a driver. Very impressed. Double clutching, hitting every apex but I am happy to say that I got a higher top speed than he did down the back straight of mallala. He got 177km/h and I got 181km/h. Its my only bragging right and im runnig with it. But an amazing guy, max respect for the driver and the man.

Wanna do that agian, and again, and again. Well you get the idea.
