yer i really don't like singling out, but seriously who cares where they are just do the speed limit ya dork, i cant stand people that winge about speeding fines and hidden cameras and how unfair it is.. BS!!! whats unfair is the other person that gets hurt because of your careless driving! sorry but i just feel so strongly about this, my dad was in a car accident and broke his jaw because of my sisters careless driving, it could have been far worse. and then i let my sister borrow my car and low and behold after this accident she gets 2 speeding fines and all she can do is laugh it off!. well i don't think its funny, speeding is ****e, deal with the consequences, and don't winge about it. cops don't care about you when your speeding they care about the other people doing the right thing, and thats why the cameras are there to catch you out.

Speaking of tickets: I was stuck behind some twat going 85 in a 100 zone for a rather long time, I finally found a gap but it was short with no overtaking lines not far ahead and a car coming. So I changed into 4th, put my foot down and pulled out, would've got past without speeding had this prick NOT STARTED TO ACCELERATE WHEN I WAS NEXT TO HIM.

I managed to get past alright but I got up to about 125 or so, but as soon as I pulled back in I hit the brakes. I only managed to slow to 115 and a bloody speed camera flash went off.

So I'll get a ****ing fine because of this arsehole speeding up trying not to let me past.

Don't be ignorant.
Just because we've had speeding tickets doesn't mean you should be a d1ck about it

It is relevant if you speed or not because you are always the one getting caught or crashing your car but always saying it's not your fault.

Think about it

Ok i must firstly say that i don't condone speeding (far from it), but being honest, I have broken the speed limit b4 and won't pretend otherwise. Fortunatelly I haven't bn caught but I have friends who have and I know how much it sux.

Just to stick up for poor skitz here i gotta say that there are worse things than mild speeding. You do 10km/h over, get caught and your done, if you happen to have a little plate with the letter 'P' on it your, well then, to put it simply your f***ed. Now someone in a different scenario who causes an accident because they are putting lip stick on of fixing their hair or changing a CD is far more dangerous because their attention's elsewhere. I mention these scenarios because mostly these cases will not be penalized and there is direct legistlation that I know of against these activities, but they are probably more dangerous than mild speeding.

Say your doing 70 or god forbid 72 in a 60 zone because your in a huge hurry. Because your aware of the fact your speeding your paying exceptionally close attention to the road, footpath and every living and dead thing around you mobile or stationary. THEN something happens ahead of you. You realize it, slam the breaks and probably stop. If not at least you wipe off most of your speed resulting in a pretty minot fender bender.

Now Your doing 58 in a 60 zone and we all believe your a safe driver but whats unknown to us is your putting your make up on. THEN something happens ahead of you. By the time you look up, react and break your too late. The damage that you would do will be far greater than the person doing 70 but paying attention to the road.

All im saying is even though there is a line drawn in the sand, its not always black and white. There is scenarios which are way more dangerous but go un noticed because there is no legislation against it as such. If there is legistlation ion place I don't believe its upheld too well becaus I have never heard of someone who lost thier licence for something other than speeding or drink driving.

The obvious ones like drink driving and use of a hand held mobile are heaps dangerous but i leave them out because there are ligislations in place to penalize the offenders.

Please don't single out poor skitz, imagine how you'd feel. No one's perfect so lets not pick on anyone.

i dont condone speeding and we all know EVERYONE does it or has done it at some point in there life that was merely my point ... no need to have a go...

and i totally agree with RedLineResident cheers for that way to word how i feel.. all that was ment by this thread was to let people become aware that there are new speed cameras in act and to find out where they are... even if u are like the all immaculate kitty and have never speed or dont like people that do you will still know people that do and therefore could provide the heads up!

cheers

redline what your basically sayin is, you can speed as long as you pay attention to the road??? the point for speed cameras are to get people to try and slow down...theres laws there to protect us... why try and brake them...

BEWARE!!

Canberra Ave and Hindmarsh Drive intersection has been fitted with Red light and Speed "loop" detectors, these are a new type of red light and speed camera, they detect how much time it has taken your car to travel from point A (first sensor) to point B (second sensor) instead of using radar, therefore they are extremely accurate.

They are implanted under the road surface and are completely undetectable, they are also only 300 mm in front of the white stop line at these lights, so if you over shoot the line even by less than half a car length you will be charged, even though you didnt proceed through the lights.

These are also installed at the north bound intersection of Canberra Ave and Captain Cook cres in Manuka.

These will apparently replace all existing speed and red light camera's
in the ACT within the next few years...

no i dont think i did miss the point...i understand what hes saying...but no matter what you shouldnt speed no matter how much attention you are paying...

and also the idea of the white lines at traffic lights is to stop before them :p

23-07-2007, 07:25 PM
funny, I thought you had too ... hmmm

as for the white line ... true ... buuuuuut (damn that's a big but) ... you will find that you won't get booked just because your front wheels crossed that line ... it's not till your rear wheels cross it that you have toasted yourself ...

and just so I can say I've explained myself (not that anyone would doubt me) a friend got caught by a red light cam, but when he disputed it they conceded that he had stopped before his rear wheels had crossed ... aaanndd I also nearly failed my licence test that way (only my horse had crossed the line, not the wheels on my cart)

but in the meantime ... drive sensibly and speed cameras and that white line won't be a problem ;)

My 1st line said that i don't condone speeding. That still stands. I think its wrong, I agree with the laws and penalties, however my point was that there are worse things that go unnoticed. I was drawing attention to that via direct comparison.

Try driving from my local IGA to my place.
50km/h then 40km/h followed by another 50km/h with two big speed bumps. On the exit of the second speed bump it's back to 40km/h up to the roundabout at Mc Cormics Rd. Turn left or right you have a school zone that can be 40km/h or 60km/h time dependant. Next is the roundabout at Hall road which is 70km/h if you turn into it, which I don't.
So it's down a 60km/h road and left, right, right in 50km/h zones.

Congratulations, you've traveled 2,800 meters.

as usual this thread changed from location , location , location to crap.....everyone on this forum has sped once and probably liked it too.....blah blah blah on all the stories about condoning sppeding, i was in a car crash and my father was seriously hurt but that doesnt mean i dont speed...i think if you get caught you get caught and if skitz just wanted to know some pretty simple stuff why do we redort to debate on a simple matter.....and guys just because you all say you condone speeding doesnt mean that you havent done it....isnt it a bit hypocritical....

I said what I said because I have seen skitz drive like an idiot and witnessed his ignorance when the topic has been brought up, to be a lil less harsh skitz your not the only one, but your just easy to pic on with this subject. and basically what i was trying to get across in my moment of moodyness is that it doesnt matter where speed cameras are because you shouldent be speeding in the first place regardless of the situation. also in the case of rushing sometimes the attention to driving is worse off. on another point Id like to say that in the future bourbon wants to be a cop and that its dissapointing to read that people suggest that they should do there job differently, because there is "worse crimes" to solve then speeding. cops are humans remember, and they cant catch every person doing something stupid while driving im sure if the police saw someone putting on lipstick or swerving because some one was putting in a cd while driving, that theyed be pulled over therefore i dont think its fair to say that the police are targeting the wrong areas regarding driving.

* note, most things i say are usually irrelevant to the thread topic and i do tend to get off track, but at the end of the day im just trying to make a point..... and no i havent gotten a speeding ticket and no i dont speed, only on the race track :P and yes i do like it but my way is legal.

its ok kazz i understand i ain't agro about it i was just after a simple answer but in the back of my head knew that i was the wrong person to be asking .... as this would happen

yes as a young teen i have and do some stupid things and hopefully i will learn before its too late and i lose my license or far worse hurt someone.

but i did hope this topic would stay on topic and i try my hardest not to speed and etc atm not just for the points but for others and for the health and well being of my stina as it has been through hell and now with my new job (more money) hopefully i can restore it to its original state...

i know i am not bullet prof and i dnt want to learn it the hard way. so yes i agree even if running late speeding isnt a good thing, but the reason i wanted to know is that my speedo is SLIGHTLY off with my new rims and i there for am a few kms (less than 5 @100kms) off so it would be nice to know where they are at so as i dont get done for somethink as silly as that ...

cheers kyle
* note its ok feel free to keep this an open topic and all say your piece its better said than unsaid

*shrugs* I speed, not all the time, and not always delibrately but I do speed. It's a matter of degrees and circumstance though isn't it.

Doing 122km/h in western QLD near the border in the middle of the day on the highway in a 100 zone is speeding, I have the ticket to prove it. But is it grossly unsafe? Not really any more dangerous than 100km/h.

However doing 62km across the front of a school at 3pm is vastly more dangerous given the unpredicatable nature of children and a current trend NOT to train children to be responsible for their actions.

Both are 22km/h over the limit, you be the judge?

For the record I've had 3 tickets, all on major highways, all for 15-22km/h over the limit and that's in 17 years of driving. Will I get booked in Canberra with all these extra cameras and stuff? Not likely, I refuse to willingly become a statistic in a Road Safety campaign that is far too focused on a single parameter involved in any situation where an accident may occur.

A.
