Hey guys, just popping up a thread to say g'day and introduce myself.

I'm Tom, 17 from South Aus. and am getting a 90' BG as my first car within next couple weeks. :) Basically I'm a car nut who's always eager to learn more about cars and cruise whenever/wherever I can!

The car itself has been in my family (Uncles, cousin then nan, you know the deal) since new. It has done 161,000kms, 5spd, white, 1990 and pretty clean for the age. Will be able to chuck some pictures up when I actually get the car, currently waiting for nan to buy herself new car (next week or so) then I'll be blasting round the streets. Plans for for the car arn't too extravagant but I'm looking at rims, exhaust, stereo - typical cruiser mods, y'kno. :)

No doubt I'll be bombarding your ears with questions as I learn about the car, so be prepared, hehe.

Look forward to getting to know yaz.

but congrats on the car mate... is it the SP astina (dohc) or a standard astina with a SOHC...

Yo guys,

cheers for the warm welcome. :) Starting to anticipate the arrival of the little beast in the driveway more and more every hour.

Couldn't say 100% whether it's SOHC or DOHC variant, for some reason I think it's DOHC, but I'm probably wrong. Will check her out properly when I take delivery.

Just took delivery tonight. Already been for a little spin round the block and love the drive. Have been driving a 04' Corolla and the Astina already feels slightly zippier (manual) and the steering is less harsh and has a better feel than the Corolla, which was insanely heavy considering it's a school run car. Enjoying the fact it's lower, too (Although could even go lower when I find rims to fit nicely). Love it already, looking forward to going for some proper drives and starting the modifying journey.

Anyway, without further ado, some piccies! Camera is crap but oh well, check her out.

Well I drove the Astina 300kms in last 24 hours and I'm VERY impressed! It outhandles the Corolla I've been driving despite being some 15 years older and feels so much more fun to drive. Not dissapointed with the power either, despite it being a SOHC, although could use an extra 10-15kW at the wheels to make for some really spirited driving. (Exhaust spendage here we come.) 5spd gearbox is smooth and the friction point in the clutch is easily found which makes for comfortable traffic driving. And the pop-up headlights! Love them to bits! Overall it just feels like a really simple, but well made car that drives beautifully.

Respect to the mighty BG! :p

Know the feeling, the buzz of getting a new car. Specially if its your own. I kinda miss the excitement of getting to know the car, I love my car to bits but would love to have it change in some form so I have that need to learn its new characteristics again.

Congrats man, done really well. Looks nice, straight and well look after. Take care of it now. Don't go over board with mods until you lose those plates. Mad mods and P plates scream out 'trouble maker' therefore you may get some unwated attention.

It appears from the other thread that you'll be joining us on that cruse on the 16th. Can't wait. Hope to see you there.

Oh yeah i almost forgot, welcome. You will love it here, its helpful and resourceful as well as motivating. It sort of urges you to do things to improve your car and personalize it.
