2" bigger then the largest factory option is the norm i believe.

Yea, i think RTA is 2", but another thing to look at is your insurance. Comprehensive insurance generally doesn't allow much more than an 1" diameter increase (NRMA) or an inch width (others?) increase. Just remeber the wider the tire, the more contact area and thus greater dry grip. Go wide!

ok so the largest wheels ive seen them come with from the dealer is 15" and that is what came out with the latest shades offer, so im kewl there... and nrma says my car can have 6.5 in width and they will still luv me... and no decent mags come in 16x6.5 let alone 17", then the evil thought of just throwin on a set of 17x7 and hopin i dun get busted comes to mind? any thoughts????

you could do that. mine are technically illegal but you could always use the excuse that the SP20 comes with 16x6, so therefore you coud fit 17x7 with no probs..but i dont think it'd stand up in court ;)

you could always get it engineered, and then you'd be right.

I'm sure that you had the wheels included when you had the engine done :D

yeah u could try and campaign that the sp20 came with 16x6 but then they are also a 5 stud patern where as the 1.8l is only a 4 stud...
how easy of a conversion do u guys think it would be to change the hubs on my 1.8 to sp20 items so i can run a 5 stud hub????

Whole bunch of effort for a set of rims man.

Just run the bigger rims anyway and hope you dont crash :)

It's the size of an Astina. Wish I had the finances to put the 13B turbo, extend port, 14 pound etc etc. rotary into the Astina.

this i was told the other day ie rta technical officer , hieght is not an issue as long as they can put there hand between the tyre and guard if they cant it is a defect called tyre fowling guards but you can only go 1" wider as long as u dont alter the wheel track which is meassured from centre of the tread across to the other centre of tread from left to right

I also wanted to say I wouldn't bother upgrading to 5 stud. Way
to much money for very little gain both mag selection wise or
braking wise. Sooner spend the money on the mags or for braking
save up and do a 330mm brake conversion.

The only prob with going for bigger rotors is that you wont be able to put your standard wheels back on :( For us ba astina guys anyway

ok... the rta say :
1 inch wider and 15mm combined tyre and rim higher than on your manufacturuers maximum tyre specs for your model. and as my car is the model equiped with an fp 1.8, the maximum suplied by mazda is 15x6jj / 195/55r 15 85v

now correct me if im wrong but i should be able to run 16x7 with pirreli pzero rubber?

Not true Theo.
The 330mm kit from Racebrakes or Gavsport should allow you to keep
you existing wheels. The biggest problem is the calliper fouling against
the back of the mag. If you use either a VT commodore or Falcon one
with only 2 pistons it should be alright. Its one of my dream modifications
but I dont have $1700 spare at the moment.

I still dont see how that could be true mal, considering that the standard disks are 257mm,and the caliper is pretty much sitting within a miccy hair from the wheel as is now :?
We are talking about disks that are 73mm bigger, unless there is pretty much hardley any caliper, lol
Ill believe it when i see it

Which is basically what Mal said...

You ever seen the Hot4's SR2 Laser.. The green one with the Fibremotive
kit and turbo. IT has the Race Brakes kit on it.

Mal

p.s isnt your 257mm to 330mm argument out the window by the fact that
commodores run 18" mags too which dont hit the rim. For me the
problem is going from 20mm thick to 28-30mm thick meaning the
calliper is 1cm closer to the inside of the wheel to start with but both
Race and Gavsport say it should be OK and the SR2 pretty much confirms
that.

Well you have misinterpreted what i have said previously Mal,cause i said that you wouldnt be able to put the standard rims(14inch) back on once you had fitted 330mm brake rotors/calipers
I wasnt talking about 18inch wheels
