In my search for new rims for my astina i stumbled across this little piece of flash magic:
Bob-Jane Virtual Wheels (http://www.bobjane.com.au/Wheels/VirtualWheels.asp)
whilst it is a limited range of rims, you can easily photoshop your rims of choice on to see how it'd look (sorta)
if anyone on here has seen some nice gold rims for reasonable cost around feel free to fill me in on who/where
EDIT: any comments on these? they're the style i like Tempe Tyres Gold Rims (http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_closeup.asp?part=&part_no=478)

Gold with other polished or machined live is more modern and in fashion currently.
The ones you have selected are a little out-dated by about 10 years.
And don't get anything that doesn't have a little bit of dish around it.
Below is something more modern and sexy.

I prefer the last 2...

hey mate,
my problem is firstly that i've 4 stud, which rules out the first and third.
i also dont like the weird centre on the second one. the fourth is ok, i'm looking for a slightly darker colour though.
you are right though, i am looing for dish, however the ones i posted before caught my eye. thought they'd look good on my white hardtop. i'll have to do some photoshopping

they all come in 4x100 PCD
DavoAust
19-08-2007, 03:43 PM
are you serious? the first set only say 5x100 / 5x114.3. if they come in 4 stud i'll take them, they are the first ones i looked at and i love them
if i got them in 17x7 (big enough for my tastes and easily wide enough) the wheel calc (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html) that rup posted says i need 205/14/17 tyres to keep my speedo accurate (0.1%).
i'm having trouble working out what the offset would be. assuming stocko tyres are 14", 5.5" wide and have a +45 offset
what do i need to run with the 17"s? a lower offset to provide more strut clearance? offset +26 provides same inner clearance and 38mm outer edge. am i safe running a slightly higher offset so the outer edge is closer in?

215/40ZR17 tyre size required.
If you go 205-40 you may find the load rating not correct/under rated and have increased tyre wear and chance of blown tyre.

i run a +37 offset, but anything lower than a +45 should be fine as there's a heap of clearance with the factory rims/struts

Might just be me Davo but I can't see the pics of the rims.
I just get some dodgey "Image linked from ozzytyres.com.au" bs.

hey guys, i've heard reports of 17" rims scrubbing on the astinas. who here is running 17"s with similar tyre size to 215/40ZR17? or even 205/14/17
Hey bro, Nah trust me the images don't work, trust me ;)
I've dumped 17's on my hardtop, they don't scrub at all. Perhaphs once lowered. . . . but thats another story.

now they work!
I like the 1st RS-GT Gold or the last EST - noo5 for non gold black with silver ring around. I've seen a white hardtop with similar (black) type of wheels and it looked really nice! Even with gold rims, with a bit of silver it will match the white color of your car hence the 1st one.

1, 2 or 5. Probably 3 on a white hardtop IMO
DavoAust
23-08-2007, 09:41 PM
so you reckon the GT shadow would look the best rup?
consider i'm planning on keeping the car white, not respraying to another colour i was looking for the gold to add some colour to the car. hmm, if i did get a respray it would either be black or red, which i think the gold would set off nicely

Heh i'm just not a fan of gold in general, hence why i said the shadowchrome ones - but hey, it's up to you! :)

i would love the respray into the white that DC2 is. i'm assuming its several coats?
i dunno which i like anymore. i like the gold, and i like the shadow
its too damn hard to choose. oh, ozzy tyres said it would be $1000 for the gold rims, and $1500 with tyres. i think they use toyo tyres, not sure which ones though.
oh, how do you find out the load rating for a tyre? i'm looking the the toyo product sheets on their website but i cant find the load rating.
these are the cheapest they have so these are the ones he probably quoted :Toyo Tranpath 20SW (http://www.ozzytyres.com.au/pdfs/Tranpath%20SW.pdf).
Rupewrecht
24-08-2007, 12:55 PM
Championship White would just be one, maybe two coats over your existing buffed back paint. it depends if there's supposed to be a clear over new paint or not.
Load rating: 215/40ZR17 87W - and i think the 1.8 BA Astina needs an 84+ so they'd be fine.
DavoAust
24-08-2007, 03:57 PM
ah so the 87W is the load rating. thanks rup
hmm so how much would a respray like that cost? say 1 coat and a clear on top? $1000 with sanding back or so?
I also like the shadow chrome ones. You can't have the black/polished lip ones because they look like mine :p
But if you are going to go with the gold ones make sure you get the one with thte polished lip, looks heaps better ;)

pffft they look nothing like yours. unless you've changed them but not the pics in your readers ride. anyway my car is white.
hmm, really tempted by the shadow chrome, and then a respray with that championship white in the future after i get the JDM bar..
No these look nothing like each other. ;)

you could always look at it like this: we both have good taste.
the wheels are gonna be pushed back a month at least. i'm getting the JDM bar from pete and arent gonna be working much for a couple of weeks = no money :(
Unlucky, but good to have the time off work.
Good taste? :p Must be the whole 'bartending' thing. Cocktails are your friend ;)

the pub where i work is picking up so i'm getting a load more in tips then a while back. unfortunately i've just run into assignment/mid-sem exam season. gotta take so much time off just to get stuff done that i'm gonna be broke soon :(.
on the upside i'll have a JDM front bar very very soon, and a new muffler/tip (rup's extra lukey muffler/mazdaspeed tip :D ).
would anyone have any ideas on what it would cost for a full respray in championship white? including sanding back and fixing small mark etc?

Prob $2k for a full respray?

While I was stuffing around with brake calipers recently I spotted a set of '06 STI rims that would look the biz on the Astina. I didn't see if they fitted after I found that they carried a $2K price tag.

Not '06
He did the whole import thing for a customer with a different WRX just to find that they didn't fit. Now they are for sale "at cost, not one dollar less!"
Stud pattern is larger
