are the first 3 legal if i get a heat sheild ? is the last one legal ?

Brisbane_boy 08-06-2010 11:40 AM

im not sure if tha last 1 is technicaly legal but it dosent look like you can see the pod.

Im not sure on the NSW laws but if all you need around ur pod if a headshield then Yes the 1st three would be legal with a headshilds. as for power gains, well just say you wont be beating a lambo anytime soon. The best thing about them is the noise IMO.

oh and congrats on the car, look good in that blue.

P.S black rims all the way. (just check legal sizes ect.)

trent188 08-06-2010 02:21 PM

thanks :)
so wouldent i be better off buying a pod fiter that comes in a carbon fibre heat sheild so it is leagal from the start ? would i still get the same noise ?
cheers

Brisbane_boy 08-06-2010 02:44 PM

How so? The Pod is technically still enclosed, so would be legal ;)

Brisbane_boy 08-06-2010 09:20 PM

autobarn. payed $80 on sale. i think i saw one there the otherday for $120.
check ebay aswell, iv seen them there aswell.

Im not sure if that other 1 is 100% enclosed marc? I didnt look at it that closly, does look like a good idear but, must be newish i didnt see that when i was looking for 1 for my car. (because not havin an enclosed pod will kill half the people of NSW)

marcs_sp20 08-06-2010 09:27 PM

The simota one is technically enclosed, as you cant see the pod ;) Also look at late model Commodoes, they have similiar designed intakes and are fine...

Brisbane_boy 08-06-2010 09:35 PM

yer, was goin to say its similar to the newer falcon ect..
Id go the injen one if i had the money, it all depens on how much you want to spend.

70NYD 08-06-2010 09:44 PM

simota growlers are legal AFAIK cus they enclose the filter fully from the engine bay. and they are aweosme for ppl with grills cus you get direct ram air effect as well :D (wish i could fit one to myn... )

trent188 08-06-2010 09:56 PM

I'm pretty sure he means you need the following items:
- heat gun
- wax and grease remover

All the noted intakes will give you the same sound (think of a vacuum cleaner when you put your pedal to the floor :p), but can yeild different power figures, but would be pretty close to each other.

The side trims can be easily removed with some fishing line & wax & grease remover...

Also keep an eye out on ebay :)

trent188 09-06-2010 02:13 PM

bought these today
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MAZDA-323-SMO...item5ad4b7bf23

Could try ringing some wheel shops like bob jane, jax quick fit.

Also keep an eye out in the marketplace at ozmazda, osmazdamps, ozmazda club.

whats the little breather/mini pod filter comming out of the side of the carbon fibre cylinder on the left ?

Orion 10-06-2010 10:16 AM

That breather doesn't come out of the filter, it comes out of the cylinder head.

That is the crankcase vent port. It allows gases that build up in the block and head (usually through blow-by) to escape.

Normally it is connected back into the intake piping.
