L3 (2.3 duratec) conversion
with damaged cars now worth nothing, would it be posible to put a 2.0 or 2.3 duratec L3 engine, box, brakes into a BA astina? an sp23 can be had for about $1500 now as a stat write off this seems like a good opportunity to do an engine swap...
anyone done this at all? |
Not worth it IMO, and for starters the engine is facing the wrong way to start with.

The engine is way too big to clear the bonnet and or ground lol
I looked in to this :( (ba anyway) I wanted to tinker with the idea of a mzr in a ba :) |
even if you could make it fit. the money spent on custom engine mounts, driveshafts and loom/electrics, you might as well put a bpt in.
the $5.5K minimum you'll spend fitting it and the 100s of issues you have with the c-bus electrics from the sp23 loom, all for a 30kW again. engine $1500 fitting $1000+ engine mounts $2000 driveshafts $1000 you might as well spend $600 on a old bpt, $2000 rebuilding it with quality parts, and another $1000 fitting it. and gain 47kW for $3600. |
