Adzakael's Astina

Hi guys
I'm kinda new here :)
My name is Adzakael, can call me Jackal if you can't pronounce the name right.:D

I bought this car,Mazda Astina 1.6 year ‘91…
http://www.adzakael.com/astina/astina.jpg

turns out to be a very bad buy.

It had leaks everywhere, the steering motor pump also leaking. The doors are not functioning well. One of the windows cannot be operated. The door trims are falling off.The speaker board and the 3rd brake light are kaput. The front bumper is like going to fell down anytime soon. The worst part is,the engine is not working well (so does the gearbox). The rpm can fall down to 500rpm while going uphill.

I have discovered more about this car recently…

I just discovered that this car had at least an accident on the front part.My suspicion begin when I saw some missing marks somewhere along the radiator area.I also suspected that the original owner had a turbo engine installed in the car,but took it out before selling it to the used car dealer.I saw the mark of a turbo accessory on the dashboard (and from the picture above,we can see that there is an air vent on the hood, but when I bought it,its a plain hood).

I also received a very different set of wheel rims from the pic above.

I should have bargain it for less.

But I should not whine.I must change the situation.

So,I begin with looking and buying some second hand parts for the car.Because what I had in mind right now is…

I’m going to change the engine from 1.6 (B6 engine, carburetor) to 1.8 (B8 engine or superior).

And its going to cost a lot…

Many things have to be considered.I have bought different set of knuckles, since mine right now is for 1.6 and it uses drum brakes on the rear wheels.Under the current law,I need to change it to all disc brakes system. So,I bought the sets that served a turbocharged 1.8 Mazda

A few weeks later,I bought a halfcut.A Mazda GTX halfcut to be precise.

And this is the engine…

A standard BP Turbo engine, also known as BPT 180

The red circle indicates the blow off valve (BOV) that is much bigger than the standard original BOV. For that I had to pay extra.

So,what will happen next?

Stay tune to find out more…(maybe next week?)

welcome Jackel! hehehe, that's the **** (engine) :D Yuo've at least got the right goods now to begin the Franenstein task. Sorry to hear of your bad luck with the previous owner & dealer :( People can be assholes. Can't believe they charged you extra for the BOV  ooooh that burns my vine!!!

Anyhow, keep the Project info & pics coming. All the best with this Job!

Welcome Jackal.. looks like you've got a big task ahead. I'll be interested to watch the progress, so keep us posted. The cars exterior looks to be in good condition, so you're shouldn't have to worry about that too much.

I agree with Naughty, that's s**t about the buy from the previous owner and dealer.. some can be really dodgy. That's why Paul made me look around private sales instead.

Good luck mate, hope to hear and see more soon :)

Hey! Jackal and welcome to AGT.

I am so sorry you were conned on this one. I had a similar experience when I bought my baby. Had to travel by train & bus to Sydney to pick her up. Took 6 hours and when I got there, the sky opened up and it was pouring rain. I'm sure the owner was rubbing his hands together as I couldn't check a lot of things. Asked for his total honesty and later on, found out he was a total liar!
Drove the car home with only a few drops of brake fluid as I found out the next day, lucky nothing happened, but I won't carry on with my experience too much. All I can say is, there are a lot of parasites out there.

I am sure you will bring back your little black beauty to what it and you deserve and look forward to your progress report.

hmm just noticing ur carbi setup..that may mean abit more involved with the conversion than having fuel injected.

theres a how-to thread on fordlaser.com with a whole write up on carbi-in jected bpt conversion.

good luck keep us posted

adzakael 31-08-2009 08:23 PM

thanks mate :)

so today I have acquired a set of rear absorbers for 1.8
a few days before I have received a modified B6 flywheel with new full racing clutch plate and racing clutch cover, both from Exedy.
but since I have to apply for approval from the authority
and usually it will take up to a month to process
my mechanic decided to start working on the car right after Eid ul-Fitri celebration.

http://www.adzakael.com/astina/abs18.jpg
^ so thats the new standard rear shock absorber
http://www.adzakael.com/astina/b6enjin.jpg
^ the old B6 sitting lazily on the workshop floor
http://www.adzakael.com/astina/bpturbo.jpg
^ the BPT engine waiting to be installed into the Astina
http://www.adzakael.com/astina/newflywheel.jpg
^ inside this box,the flywheel and its new companions resides
http://www.adzakael.com/astina/gearbox4wds.jpg
^ and thats the 4WD gearbox that I cannot use

I'm using the old B6 gearbox for this project.By having the flywheel modified,it now can withstand up to 260HP from the BPT unit.

as for now,I have to find two final things for the whole project to work properly

must find a set of 16" rim and tyre
and turbo timer plus boost reader
