HeyDayJordan's Car Blog
G'day, I'm Jordan. I own a 2000-01 BJ1 Mazda 323 Astina. I'm from South Tasmania, Australia. I've been slowly modding it. Main motivation to mod the Astina was because I wanted a Subaru Forester, but most of them are either expensive or have high Ks where I am. I remembered that I have a Mazda & that it's still in better condish than most Foresters or BJs in the area. So, why not make it look nicer according to my own taste?! Welcome to AGT from another fellow 1.6L owner ;)
Nice mod wish list you've got there, just to kick things off :) |
Thanks guys
Thanks guys, I've been looking around at other threads of builds members have posited here & have gained quite a lot of inspiration.
This is my 3rd Mazda engined vehicle in the past 3 years of my driving life. I still have my first car which is a '92 Familia which drives very well, but got a '99 WF Festiva last year with only 100,000kms & rolled it while delivering pizzas on a dirt road, so now I've recently bought the bj. |
Taking the stereo out tomorrow
Taking the USB player out of the Festiva tomorrow.
Also, I found out just after I got the car that there was a factory 6-stacker CD player under the front passenger seat, so I'll try & get that wired up to the USB player too. Pics soon |
Installed the stereo & blew a fuse
Well, Dad was pretty sneaky today.
He decided to install the Sony Xplod stereo (while I was out studying at TAFE) & managed to get the front speakers mixed with the rear speakers & blew 2 fuses. One was for the lights in the roof & the other being the one that controls the air-conditioning controls. He found one for the lights, but it looks as though I won't have air-con for a while. lol Not all that bad though as I'm down past Hobart. It's pretty much the third car the stereo has been installed in since my 17th 2 yrs ago. The first being the Familia & then the Festiva (totalled :(). I'll get a pic up soon of it sitting in there. |
My last car ('99 WF Festiva)
Some pics of my last car. A 1999 WF Festiva I bought in November 2013. Only had 100,00k's when I got her.
There's a pic of the stereo in the Festiva that's now in the Astina. http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...psb9b82bff.jpghttp://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...psb49fc7da.jpghttp://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...ps228fb361.jpghttp://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7daa0eb4.jpghttp://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...psdee4ce9d.jpghttp://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...ps062d529a.jpg |
That Fiesta didn't end up too well on its roof!
Stereo looks nice, and is the CD changer working? In regards to the 5 stud conversion, you'd need to convert the rear drum brakes to discs first and then use the hubs from the SP20. Front hubs just swap over (Read this for more info). Alternatively you can use the US model GF 626 rear drum brakes as they are 5 stud. Aussie models had rear discs instead. |
@xeon8 Yeah, I'm glad I wasn't going fast in the Festiva. Would have been much worse as there was a dip not far from where it stopped.
It seems to have power, but haven't tested it yet as I have no discs. Only use USB at the moment. Yeah, I'll take a look at the page. Sounds good. I'll probs use that as a backup idea as I'm thinking of getting a written-off SP20 next year to get the parts cheaper. Thanks! |
Well, things are slow here, but still... little progress is better than none I guess.
Took a fuse out from the rear wiper & because it's the same as the one used for the air-con & heater I've put it in there. I guess I'm that desperate for warmth delivering pizzas in the Tassy winter. :P |
your previous car, the festiva has a p plate while your newer bj has an L plate?
Is this some weird Tassie law bestowed upon you for rolling your car? Pics of your 92 bg sedan? |
I was on my Ps in the Festiva which was Auto, but the 323 in Manual & I still had an Auto license, so I had to redo the test. I'm now in My P2s.

+ AstinaGT.com stickers coming in the mail soon! :D Yipee!!! |
Money is very tight. So cheap mods are always a car owners best friend.
"XXR 532 Flat Out OS" are a set of wheels which have been on my mind since I back when I was driving my BG Familia. I've seen it being sold somewhere for $99 a wheel. I think it was at Jax Quickfit. Might be a few months to go though. I'll be getting a job with my Dad next year though replacing Telstra boxes which pays over $1500-2000 a week. Sound like a good idea? ;) |

So, the stickers arrived in the mail this morning. Took only 5 days.

And here's some pics of my old '92 BG Familia. Still has the QLD plates (which I kind of love how it says 005.MBI)

First pic I took of the tail-lights. Love the stock BJ1 lights

Well I've updated my intentional mods list in the OP with more realistic better looking ideas.
One other thing I wouldn't mind would be a ducktail spoiler to replace the current roof spoiler, but not sure if they exist. Only seen them on 3's. + here's some more pics of the car. Took this pic a few months back now, but pretty much how it still is. Getting a new job in a few weeks (Much better money than Domino's delivery), so should see some actual progress soon (Hopefully). http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7a0ceb20.jpg |
Ok, guys. So... long time no see. << get it? Haha. No? lol ok
Well, I've finally got myself a good job starting next Friday & should be able to finally do stuff on this thing. In the mean time, here's a rough drawing of the things to come. Enjoy! http://i1316.photobucket.com/albums/...psaeb26cc8.jpg The wheels are Avid 1 AV-17. |
