Picked up a new car on the weekend from interstate :)

It's a mid-engined, RWD Kei car with a 657cc DOHC turbo 3 cylinder engine and gullwing doors! Built by Suzuki for Mazda, back in the early '90s in Japan.

Needs a bit of work, but I didn't care due to the AZ-1 being unobtanium in Australia! Always wanted one, never thought i'd ever have a chance though.

Haha nice one !
I swear i saw one in N.S.W. about 2 months, tiny cars.

What's the plans for this one, keeping it stock ?

Rupewrecht 03-06-2014 08:53 PM

Yeah, reasonably stock. Probably a little more power down the track, but other than a set of wheels, that'll mostly be it. Just stuff to restore it - bits of trim, weather seals etc. I thought about coilovers, but it actually rides really nicely so it'd be a shame to mess with that.

Nice score, Dan!

Haha, just enough? Not a crazy price considering the rarity.

So awesome, only a car like this can make you and the people around it smile!

What's visibility like from the driver's seat?

Pretty much! :)

Visibility is pretty good. During the day you notice the low headliner/sunvisors above the windscreen, but at night it's just like any other car. The C-pillar isn't too intrusive either.

That thing is wicked!!!

Did you get home on 20l fuel?

Haha, not quite. Did about 220kms on half a tank though, which is 30L capacity.

Apparently 5.5L/100kms is the official fuel consumption figure.

Engine bay shots please!!! That thing is on my wish list for sure, but i've never seen the engine bay.

+ 1 and maybe some interior shots!

Rupewrecht 04-06-2014 04:19 PM

I actually don't have any, yet!

Here's a link to give you an idea though
http://www.antholonet.com/EngineersCars/AZ-1/AZ-1.html

Engine bay...well, there's a lot of room at the back of the back of the engine bay, but the engine is actually half under the rear window. There's actually access hatches in the parcel shelf/wall behind the seats - and you can pull out the turbo that way LOL

So the scoop is functional isn't it? I figured it funneled air from the front of the car to the engine, or something along those lines, just couldn't make it out in the diagram in the link.

Radiator at the front, intercooler at the drivers/RHS, engine bay intake on the LHS. Scoop on the front is cabin air, i think! Haven't actually checked where that goes.

i think you need to buy a Honda Beat and a Suzuki Cappucino just to make the collection complete :)
