phone decisions.
so my good old nokia n8 is slowly starting to die on me. so surely its time to get a new onee..
yet im not a tech head, but love my phones to death and have narrowed my search down to 3.. i had my heart set on getting an nokia n9 till i was playing around with my mates one last night. to unlock it was like an iphone had to slide it across, but if it wasnt from exactly one side to the other it doesnt work so i thought that was crapp. so unsure about that one now. the other 2 i was thinking about the samsung galaxy2 and htc sensation, never used either one. but have heard awesome things about it. i need something that isnt gonna break easy, i drop everything soo much. if anyone has one of these phones or knows/heard good or bad things about them please tell me :D or if you have any other suggestions if all ears (cept iphones :p ) |
Haha I was against iPhones for a while too :p Then I realised after having my phone for 2 years that the equivalent iPhone back then was still being sold today (3GS) and updated while my other phone was pretty much useless. So I went and bought a 4S when the came out ;)
I wouldn't drop the iPhone though, but I've heard the galaxy S2 is pretty resilient to being dropped :) |
Galaxy S2. I got one about a month ago. My partner has the 4S. She WISHES that she got the Galaxy S2. Its a fantastic phone. Siri is probably the only advantage apple has with the iPhone.
S2 has a FANTASTIC camera. Upclose pictures are fantastic. The phone is super quick. Internet browsing is easy as 1, 2, 3. Though don't make your decision based on my opinion though do your re-seach and look at the phones being reviewed on youtube. 6/10 reviews prefer the S2. Also check out the drop test between the phones. WOW! It's a good watch even if you don't want a new phone. |
i have the 3gs and have dropped it many times with no problems due to having an otter box cover with the screen taken out and a stick on screen protector
|
I'm a HTC man. Hate the Apple mantra of making everything incompatible or hard to use with pc's. The Samsung screens appear very blue, like the colour representation isn't quite right or something... Bit solid hardware, just feels cheap.
|
i love my nokias cause thats what ive grown up with ahah
ive heard that the 3gs screen dont break as easy as the other ones but yet stilll break plus when the screens break it stuffs up the reception. im starting to lean towards the galaxy but its quite i big phone probably would be the size of my hand.. no joke ahaha |
I love my iphone to bits wouldnt replace it for the world *shrug*. If I didnt get the 4S i would have gotten the galaxy S2 :)
I dont think there better or worse then iphone just think its a personal thing :) |
I have just upgraded my 10mth old HTC Desire HD (for sale $350) to one of the new HTC Sensation XE with the beats heatphones.
It is an awesome phone and the sound quality of the headphones makes other phones look sad. Its an awesome idea of HTC to buy Beats Audio. The screen quality is awesome and the camera is every fast and takes great pics. It has a 1080P video camera with stereo mics and a front mounted camera for video calls. Im not an apple fan as im sick of all the crapple customers coming in whining at work and im over dealing with everyones itunes BS. Apple used to make great products, now not so. |
Anyone who is a fan of htc must have a screw loose.
Most unstable unreliable hardware/software Os of all time. S2 is good, feels cheap though iPhone is good, feels good to hold, probably the easiest and most supported device in the market. It's all personal preference though. |
Clearly you've not played with them enough. I've had 3, the hd2 which out of the box WAS rubbish, but a few hours later I had a triple bootable stable fast and reliable. If you want a phone you don't want to touch, buy an android based HTC, best UI of any manufacturer, IMHO.
|
I found 2 devices and 2 years was enough to label them crap
|
Funny, I have had 3 HTC phones, and no drama, but my friends with iphone have all had to have them fixed.
Different people have different experiences. |
HTC Evo 3d. Its just freaking awesome. The 3d camera is great, I thought I'd never use it but I do all the time. Works brilliantly at festivals
|
I went into the Tel$tra shop determined to get the Galaxy SII, and then I noticed the Sensation sitting beside it. After playing with both of them, I left the shop with the Sensation. You really need to handle both phones before making a decision, though. To me the only disappointing thing about the sensation is the mic/speaker quality. Other than that, every other aspect of the phone is very high quality.

Im not impressed with the mic quality either. The headphones are awesome however. |
Isn't microphone and speaker kinda what a phone is all about? Without them you've got a tiny tablet.
|
The mic is good, but when recording video its a little sensitive and can distort easily if the sound level is too loud.
|
i have had a iphone since the 1st one came out. there was a breif period where i swaped for a samsung, cus it had a better camera.. but then i got a camera, and a iphone (which also has a pretty good camera. for me, i dont see my self getting anything else for a while. yeah people have problems with it, but it comes down to individuals. i have hed little hickups here and there but i always knew what to do to fix them. love it, used to it, dont want to change it.
want to record your car sensor data? there is a app for that ;) |
i lolled when i saw your name tony and thought, here we go, apple fanboy haha :p
yeah theres some awesome apps available now, have you seen the lakeside/QR one, where it uses a whole lot of data and gps to tell you where you were going, lap times, g forces through certain corners etc. i think its like $50 though! |
want to record your car sensor data? there is a app for that ;)
i do believe that the android also had the same ability though with a better and easier interface then the iphone. also has an extra way of connecting to the obd plug. |
There is a program called torque that connects to the OBDII port by bluetooth.
The OBD II bluetooth units are really cheap on ebay. |
Yep there is pleanty of apps that connect via blutooth and wifi to android. I'm not saying iOS is better than android. You can do so much more on android. And it is easy to use as well. I was saying that I like the iPhone. I will also never get a mac. I just saw a product that suited my needs and was fortunate enough to not experience any difficulties with it over the years :)
I'm not a fanboy by any stretch. When I have a need for a tablet, I will not get the iPad. More than likely I will wait untill win8 tabs come out. With respect to the car sensor recording, that was a joke, as android can connect thru blutooth, while afaik iOS cant. I got a wifi dongle for obd2, works great :) If my iPod didn't die years ago when my phone contract expired, I might have not gotten a iPhone lol But it did, and I needed a mp3 player, I was used to the iPod cus of its interface, and iTunes cus of its management. So I ended up getting a phone with iPod built in :) |
Here are a few links to a few examples of torque running on a phone.
Its rather cool and makes me wish I had an OBD II Port. I wonder if its possible.... Mazda 6 MPS RX8 |
I thought bjs have obd2. Or is that just sp20?
|
Just the sp20

Albeit all options and features best thing to do is find a phone that suits ur preferences.
Technology, features and brand all come down to opinion and at the end of the day someone else's opinion may differ. Thats probably why not everyone drives a 323 opposed to a corolla or civic. Advice, try before you buy. Figure out which one works the best and has the features to match what you are going to do. Happy buying! edit: you bought a sensation? congrats! what was the deciding factor? |
so i rang my phone company up which is crazy johns, asked if i could sign up for another 2years before this contract has ended and get a new phone.. Which i have done before with them. This time they said no, so ill be hunting for a phone outright which isnt to expensive just to use to my plan runs out.. Phill your htc desire is looking pretty good now ;)
|
I got a HTC Sensation XE, my friend has teh Sensation and I liked it.
I had the Desire HD but it did not support the 850 MHz tower that was closest to my place. I got the phone for free due to whinging at Vodafone. Smurfy.. The Desire HD is sitting on my desk at home. Its got 2 cases as well. |
ive got a HD2 with a spare phone... has dust between the glass and screen, which doesnt affect the performance, but severely reduces the sale value hence why i kept it. it has wp7 + android on it... came stock with the w6.5, same hardware as the hd7. make an offer, or buy phils as he needs the money more haha.
|
I"ll just bumpy up Smurfy's old thread. My plan has ran out as of the 30th for my iPhone 4. My mother needs a new phone, so i agreed i would get a new one and she can have my 4 (She doesn't care for phones, as long as it rings and texts :p) Now, the iPhone 4s doesn't tickle my fancy, i don't give a S*ite for siri. So i'm thinking of going to the dark side and going Android.
I know NOTHING about android, i've had a iPhone since the first gen. My choices are: Samsung galexy Note (Its HUGEEEE, only thing is holding me back is the size) Nexus HTC Sensation XL (No expandable memory :( ) I don't want the Samsung Galexy S2, everyone has one if they don't have a iPhone, i like to be difficult haha. Android fans, tell me about it. What the hell is ice cream sandwich and how is it different? Are there most of the apps i have on the iPhone? Tell me why you think its better. |
Nexus is awesome will be my next one very soon. and icecream is the new o/s faster and less glitches. the nexus has better resolution than the galaxy s2 and is a little bigger but if size is the problem maybe and old nokia as mine isnt that much bigger than an iphone. Most "games of the week" android doesnt have but its only if u wanna try be in the in crowd it matters
|
For users of the samsung and the HTC phones they wont actually see much difference with the new ics cream sandwich as they both have thier own custom user interface.
HTC has sense and Samsung Touchwiz. At the moment I am still loving my HTC Sensation XE with beats audio. If you use you phone as a MP3 player its more than worth it as the headphones are great. |

It's not just about what you plug into it hey Phil ;) I.e decoders etc. Apple rate highly for this in a mobile form.
|
The sensation XE also has the beats encoder software built into the phone which massively increases the sound quality of the phone.
I am not a fan of the ipod or itunes software and hate the AAC codec they use. I try to get all my music in FLAC now. |

This is why I'm so confused about the note. Check out the size difference  http://www.instablogsimages.com/1/20...ne_4_5kcel.jpg |
yer the not is huge and just think no button something less to go wrong
|
Never thought about that... The HTC One X is apparently coming out soon, you can pre-order it at the moment through optus. It comes with beats audio too, fairly similar to the note in specs, still a big 4.7" screen. But I dunno what i don't like about htc...Seems, simple.

Isnt the Samsung Galaxy S3 due to come out in a couple weeks from now? From whats been said on the net, its specs are pretty desirable. Here is what is said to be the S3 next to the S2:
http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/...2/03/twoyo.png I do however like the premium suite you can get for the Note: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkZz2...layer_embedded There is also the Sony Xperia S coming out in April, along with the HTC One http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/...ones/xperia-s/ http://cdn.cbsi.com.au/story_media/3...xperia-s_1.jpg http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/htc-one-x/ http://www.htc.com/managed-assets/ww...ery/image1.jpg |
