02-kq-lasr's........laser

Ok guys, ive been on here for a while now, and i thought it was about time i posted up a project thread!
It all started with my older bro buying an ex demo kq laser at the end of 02- start of 03. He had it for about 18 months and modded it a little while he owned it.
He did the following when he had it:
Jvc headunit
Lowered peddlers springs
17’’ rims
Eclipse stereo speakers (5x7 & 6” splits)
Cannon tip

After 18 months he needed to sell it, and as i was looking for a new car at the time i thought it was a good buy.
Heres how it looked when i first bought it:

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/d...e/SP_A0666.jpg

After about 12 months i had only done a few small things to it, and decided i wanted something faster... i saved and saved for 8 months and had the car advertised everywhere trying to sell it... after not getting too much serious interest about it, i decided to keep it and go all out.
First off i got new rims and got them engineered so i was all OK with the po-po.

After this i decided it needed something more. One day while on the net i say rupe selling some items that i didn’t mind.... and there it started!!

Then after a nervous wait it arrived and i got it installed:

very nice mate

like the white walls
nice touch indeed

what are the plans from here?

02-KQ-LASR 29-03-2009 06:05 PM

plans for now are:
get the grille back from paint.... (starting to get pissed off that painter wont hurry up!)
get chrome/c/f pillars and window trim
re trim interior
final last boot install that i wont touch ever again! lol

wanna do, but not for a while:
coilovers
19'' rims
slammage!!!
maybe new front bar... depending on how it looks later on.

then its onto the engine... im still unsure what im gonna do. tempted to get quads customised, but its big $$$ for little power.

grille picked up yesterday.
will put on tomorrow.:)

Quads is a bit of money and its not really the gains that are so great about it, its the engine response that makes you grin every time.

In regards to our postages the other day, my theory should be fine regarding the head swap and intake. However it may be best to just use the head and the IM. The Heads a direct bolt on, theres some threads regarding it around the place.

Grille looks great! Really changes the look of it

Ice88 05-04-2009 02:25 AM

Nice mate the grille makes a massive difference D

Also worth noting is that pretty much most stuff made for the B series engine will work with your engine :)

were did you read about the b series stuff working on my engine? i only checked that site last wk an dont remember reading that!

Ice88 05-04-2009 11:11 AM

On mazdas247 ages ago. The Z series engine is based off the B series engine. The same rods are used in the Z series as in the B series.

ZL-VE head on ZM-DE:

If you do enough research regarding your engine youll find out what will fit and what wont fit. To get your monies worth out of mazdas247 you really need to use google and play around with search terms regarding similiar things. Even try clubprotege, hawii for information. You only need a smattering of new information to lead you in a direction thats worth while :)

The last post was what i was referin too. Doubt youll need to change pistons e.t.c if your not looking for alot of power.

marcs_sp20 06-04-2009 07:29 AM

Loving the grille, sets the car off nicely :D

On another note, should put an FPV badge to keep people guessing :p

project.r.racing 06-04-2009 07:52 AM

never heard that the B series engines and the Z series share major common parts. are you smoking something?

marcs_sp20 06-04-2009 12:19 PM

Further to what i said this morning, should make up some eyelids out of headlight covers and paint them the colour of the car...

Ice88 06-04-2009 01:02 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_B_engine#B6

Alot of stuff from the B6 ^^ will fit the ZM. The rods are interchangeable, bearings and pistons should all fit. Unfortunatley one of the places that i have booked marked regarding Protege engine stuff has been shutdown due to AOL no longer offering hosting. The last link of my previous post does go into a little detail though.

Attach them to the car, mark out with tape how big you want them, take them off and carefully cut off the excess with a dremel/hacksaw, sand the edges so they are nice, and paint! :D

70NYD 06-04-2009 07:43 PM

and a good method of attaching them to the headlights after could be using velcro that is stuck on to both the headlight and eyelid :p that way they are removable but firm ;)
