New suspension
OK so received my new suspension (thanks Rupe) and decided will install it today.
Here is the new parts ready to go in: http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0137.jpg Here is a pic of a comparison between the two types. Funnily enough they are exactly the same height when out of the car: http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0143.jpg And here is a before and after shot of the lowering: http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0138.jpg http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0144.jpg After setting the shocks to 3 all round it is bumpier than before but handles a lot better. Might put it on 4 for a while to see how soft that is and then experiment with 1 and 2 when doing a nebo run. Overall am loving the new suspension and took about 4 hours to complete as a few bolts were really stubborn and the rear top strut bolts are a pain to get to. Also found speed humps are really rough now and I have 2 just outside my house. :D Cheers Jarrod |
Excellent :)
|
nice! front looks like it has dropped nicely. are they linear rate springs all round?
|
Looks good, I've got the same combo on my H/T and it feels good.
Now it's time to go 5-stud :D |
man thats fkn awesome this is how the car should have allways looked like ay :D
mazda really dropped the ball on the gap between the wheel and the tyre for our cars ay :( |
What springs came with the shocks?
|
Mazdaspeed Eibach's were on the shocks. I have to say it does look more natural now and less 4wdish but I can hear a knocking noise from the front left I think. Will investigate more on friday as it is my day off.
|
Oh, that is a trait of Tokico shocks. Guess who makes the Mazdaspeed shocks? :p
It's OK, you just need a washer or 2 under the nut to take up the slack on the piston. Gav. |
The shocks have KYB written all over it tho.
|
I think they're actually KYBs for the Lantis.
edit, hah, what he said. |
Oh that's right, Tokico make the stockies. Farks me why they knock then. They must be farked. :p
Seriously though, bounce the back of the car up and down and listen if the noise comes from the strut tops. If so, you can still try the Tokico fix. But I've not known KYBs to do that. |
mine were knocking when I put the passenger rear back in on Saturday, came out to be that I didnt tighten the strut top bolt enough
|
Will retighten it all then. What a pain it is to get to the tops of the rear struts tho. Sometimes I think it would of been easier to get the hatch but I like my car way too much. :D
|
Also, you need to tighten the piston nut while the car is jacked up.

I had to look through the rear window while pulling the shock mount up into the mounting holes and then quickly reach through the back door and put a nut on to hold it there so the rest could be put on. I can tell you it would of made for a very funny photo. LOL
Oh and I have to pull apart the rear parcel shelf which basically means taking out the rear seats to get it all out. Was fun though and enjoyed it. |
haha yeah i remember the PITA it was to change my springs. I've gotta pull the front apart, getting some nasty clunking sounds :(
how'd you go with the spotlights? |
Still need to get the relay. Have the switch now and the spotties are all wired in. Will get onto that one tomorrow. Might try Mazda up at Aspley if they have anything.
