like the little front lip on the hardtop. Think you can get that? :p

Rupewrecht 28-04-2006 11:55 AM

Yeah that's a Mazda option, but i've only come across 2 in about a year, and BoostedBatman has one of them!

BigBoyLemonade 28-04-2006 01:38 PM

Can we import these cars?

Rupewrecht 28-04-2006 01:49 PM

In half - yes.
Whole - yes and no. Not to register for road as there's an aus delivered version, but i think you can for race purposes. Not sure what's involved in importing cars for non-complianc purposes, yet i know you can. I'll see what i can find out if you want?

CRA23 28-04-2006 02:24 PM

for race purposes you need to hold a level 3 cams licence and prove the the car will be used for race only, i think you can import almost what ever you want under this rule, or just live in japan for 1 year and get it was a privite import

dan, you should put the advan red tri spokes on yours :D http://www.yokohamatire.jp/yrc/japan...age/pic_06.jpg

Rupewrecht 28-04-2006 02:27 PM

Ah is that what the rules are - cheers for that :)

And nah, i'm not converting to 5 stud anytime soon. Especially not when i just had my rims refinished :D

CRA23 28-04-2006 02:33 PM

heres the list of cars eligable to be imported and a few thing about what they have to be to qualify to be imported

Pretty much every auction on Yahoo Japan says that. If it wasn't for a good mate bringing in containers of parts from Japan every month or so, i wouldn't be doing this.

ATOMIC 28-04-2006 05:16 PM

Well arent you just mister popular :D

Rupewrecht 30-04-2006 02:35 PM

OK, i've had a chat and have found out ythat you can bring in a car without cutting it in half AND without needing a CAMS Licence/Aus race history etc

What you have to do is once you've bought the car:

- remove the driveline
- remove the front and rear subframes
- ship them in separate containers that aren't on the same ship

That's how you get around it. it'd cost extra to do all that of course but it's still a better option.

The shell will be imported as spare parts and when you go to register the car the compliance numbers will ring alarm bells. You can not register a car in Australia with this loop hole, I know of at least three JC Cosmos that are testiment to this.

BigBoyLemonade 30-04-2006 10:07 PM

I would want it for soley race purposes only...

AstinaBoiV6 30-04-2006 10:09 PM

could you pay a actual car importer to bring 1 over with the rest of their stock?

nope, sevs rule don't allow you to import cars that were australian delivered cars of the same time. the only BA that you could import in would be a series 1 1.8 Lantis from 1993 as they were built 6 months before Australia's 1st delivery. BUT GOOD LUCK FINDING ONE!!!

ryan's on the ball here, and i'd also like to add that even if u did find one, it would still be practially impossible to import as it's not currently on the sev approved list of cars, and even if it was on the list, u will need to find a garage willing to go the lengths to be allowed to comply it, which takes abt 4 months+ to do, which hardly seems worth it when they can be importing skylines, 180sx, gto.. etc... instead

project.r.racing 01-05-2006 12:48 PM

and to get it complied 1st, and into the sevs approved list, you need to do crash tests on the so the garage that inports it can warrent the safety of it on the australian roads. so you'd have to buy 2, 1 to crash, and 1 to own!!!

i'd go with the cut or pull apart options... alot cheaper!!!

JDMs don't have dates stamped on the compliance plates :) .
VINs and engine numbers can be date checked :( .

Best to chat with an importer as the laws change too frequently for a forum thread to be accurate.
