Going to take some pics of my coilovers soon after I do some more adjustments to them and get wheel alignment

smurfy 09-04-2012 05:30 PM

how the coilovers going?

Hammo 09-04-2012 05:43 PM

Put them in this arvo, went in realy well, droped it couple inches, want to go about another inch and a half, just need to do couple adjustments take it for a drive see how i like it then get a wheel alignment

Chris_180 09-04-2012 09:53 PM

Did you go for the off the shelf spring rates with the yellow speed coils...?? What's the ride quality like and does the damper adjustment actually make a difference...?? Only ask cause coilovers are one my to do list again...

sim08u 09-04-2012 10:29 PM

ahhh if only I could afford them.... looks nice man, me thinks I need me own build thread soon...

Yea off the shelf spring rates, you can get custom spring rates but would cost a bit more, Took it for a drive today after got the height just right, Car is sitting 110mm from ground to lowest part of my car (exhaust). Little bit of rubbing, my steering wheel is way out, nothing a wheel alignment can fix.

But over all the handling is much better, no more boat handling round roundabouts lol, damper does make a difference, recomended damper was 12 clicks in the front and 8 clicks in the back, I went 12 in front and 10 in back wich did make a difference, the only thing that was preset was the springs, everything else I had to adjust.

Realy pleased with the coilovers, need to get a wheel alignment and put my boot back together then it will be sweet :)

Heres some Pics, first 3 taken with my 4 year old iPhone 3g :P

Looks good with the ride height as it is & the rims painted black, IMO I would go back to stock tail lights :)

Yeah I like the ride height where it is, I just wanted to get rid of the big gap between the wheel well and the wheel, Originaly got the car with those tail lights on the car, will maybe find some stock ones down the track and put on it :)

TheMAN 10-04-2012 02:13 PM

what offset are your wheels? it looks a little close to the wheel arches... they might rub
you should add a rear strut bar.... makes a huge difference!

phildough 10-04-2012 02:27 PM

Nice car dude,
I would recommend on getting a 22mm progress rear sway bar as your next mod.

TheMAN 10-04-2012 02:29 PM

or a complete mazdaspeed sway bar kit
still available in the US! good price considering what's in the kit!

They are standard CX7 wheels so 18 X 7.5 +50, havent got a wheel alignment done on it yet, so hopefuly with some camber it wont rub, if it does will have to get guards rolled, will prob look into a rear strut bar but yea im happy with how it is now

yea sway bar would be good :D

Clean_Cookie 10-04-2012 02:44 PM

that looks awesome with the offset. thats what I'd like to achieve with mine!

TheMAN 10-04-2012 03:03 PM

it's good it's only +50... with that wide of wheel/tyre, going to +45 will mean it will rub for sure

IMO, the wheels are too big and too heavy for the car... but to each his own :)

maybe american culture is slightly different (oh wait, ive seen the 50" rims on truck videos...) in that everyone doesnt mod their car for fast, but impractical looks ;)

Ben 10-04-2012 03:41 PM

^^ hahaha

Liking the ride height.. Really wish i could lower my car :(

Hahaha so true... Don't forget the lexani Million dollar diamond rims ;)
I was looking for something that looked the goods, but wasn't outrageous with size weight and fitment. And didn't compromise performance too much.
Hence why I chose the wheels I did.
Basically same specs as the cx7 rims.
I find that it does track a little worse with the wider tyres, but front end traction was increased a fair bit, especially when keeping the foot hard in it through the middle of some small chicanes.
But, looks come with a price with the definate loss of ride comfort and a touch of bouncyness of the 35series. :p
I guess 17" is optimal compromise but damn I just love my 18's
Worth it if it's the look you are after.

Not as though these cars were exactly designed to go fast anyway :p
(if it was it wouldn't have tiny brakes that are way to thin lol)

P.s. nice little tidy car u have there hammo, saw it at the jdmst meet.
Definate +1 for changing back to stock tail lights (01 lights tht is.. Don't like the later model ones)
You definitely lost that 4WD factor with the coilies :p

BG1.8sp 10-04-2012 08:10 PM

Oh.... One more thing... BLACK your headlights!
Would look so much nicer with the black rims
Taking a closer look....Mabey leave the tail lights, black the inserts on your headlights, take off the plastic strips on the doors and the stickers, then black badging on the rear and a black auto exe grill (with mazda speed Basel like the cool kids :p)
And that would be one clean sexy SP.

smurfy 10-04-2012 08:17 PM

I like the black tail lights :) espically on the blue...
