Diagnotic box Faulty?

Hey all- long time no posting from me

But here I am again with more trouble. I have been using the diagnostic box and getting fault codes- told me I had faulty O2 sensor on the headers. Swapped with some other second hand ones and go to test it again and I get zilch. no lights flashing no nothing! been broken for a while now and its not going 2 fix itself. Also my interior lights don't work at all unless its set to door with the door open. I think the 2 could be related because they both went kaput at either at the same time or atleast in the same day.
7ONYD do I remember correctly u stating that you diagnotic box wasn't working either?? I could b wrong
Oh yeah- so u all know I have a klze 94 ba lantis

any pearls of wisdom much appreciated. cheers

With the interior lights, it could be that your body computer (located in the drivers footwell behind the fusebox) could have blown circuits. Years ago my dimmer circuit blew, giving the same symptoms as what you've got for the lights.

what did you do to blow the diagnostic connector ? did you short wrong pins??

Drakh 28-04-2010 12:07 PM

haha- um, maybe.... I didn't want to look like an idiot who shorts out the pins- but u have me pegged asanga- I did short it out...... sorry , shud have mentioned that......
and I did check all the fuses- if any1 was thinking of mentioning that
My dimmer lights on the door still work fine rupe,- but I'll have a look at that too cheers

I dont think ur interior light has got anything to do with diagnostic connector. two separate issues. which terminals did u short out (FEN, TEN, B+, GND, etc) ?

Drakh 28-04-2010 03:24 PM

i had gnd and ten bridged and accidentally crossed over when i placed a led to bridge fen to B+.
There was a quick spark- I called myself a dumbass and that was it. Checked all the fuses and they seemed fine- so where about would I have damaged it??

possibly damaged the diagnostic system of the ECU (most probably an output transistor), I dont think it would have damaged the whole ECU.

does the car run ok??

what happens when you bridge TEN to GND, set the LED between FEN & B+ and turn the ignition on ?? does the LED come on for very short time or none at all ??

Drakh 28-04-2010 06:42 PM

LED doesnt come on at all.
Runs ok- a bit rough but I've always had trouble getting this car to run stable, which was why I was muckin around with the diagnotic box in the first place.
So i think i might try swap the ecu- I have a spare one i think in my breakers car, well I hope I do anyway, don't really wanna buy another

cheers asanga

what does it mean if the led coems on for only a short time (eg 1 second)

that means ur ECU is good and no error codes (if it doesn’t flash afterwards)

Drakh 29-04-2010 06:00 AM

Well U wont hear any progress here until the weekend- gf has the car till saturday.....
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU............. ..................

did u check if ur LED is ok ?? just to make sure before swaping ecus!;)

Drakh 29-04-2010 06:35 PM

yeah, tested it on a battery, and got the multimeter on the terminals, no voltage.
swaping ecu's is easy tho- I just really hope I have a spare.......

Righto- ecu replaced- went for a small drive and checked those fault codes codes again- and I'm in the clear- for now. Maybe I have 2 drive around a bit more before they register but in any case I'm just happy its working again.

cheers guys
