My BA swaybar is an oddball size..

Hey guys- I want to know if anybody has come across this before
I brought some nolethane bushes for the front and rear swaybars of my BA, and I went for the biggest sizes they had in the catalogue, which were 24mm front and 18mm rear. They didn't fit
After a bit of back and forth with 3 auto shops ( I needed the part tonight :) and some measuring, I found some nolethane bushes to fit my car, which were 27mm front and 20mm rear, sourced from some other mazda.
So have I got a (dare I say it) special lantis with larger than standard swaybars? Or was this maybe phased in with newer versions?
I have 2 type R lantis donor cars- and I compared my current car against their sway bars. They had 24mm front and 18mm rear both.
All these cars are either '93 or '94 models, only difference being my current car has abs (where as the other '94 car doesn't)
So stoked cause if I hadn't found some front bushes then my engine install this weekend would have been stalled. (promise I'll start a worklog..)

Heres a piccy of the rear swaybars side by side

the green one is a mazdaspeed rear sway bar. which is why there is not a aussie aftermarket bush to fit.

RARE mazdaspeed sway bar!

Awesome news, cheers guys.
I guess that'll mean the front sway is mazdaspeed too.
This car has been quite good for the hidden/unique mazdaspeed goodies. I'll show it off tomorrow when I get it out of the garage (fingers crossed)

mazdaspeed didn't make a front sway bar. i think they assumed a solid 25mm bar was enough.

well, like I said- my front bar measures 27mm- and the bar and bushes certainly look like they haven't been touched before...
Anywho, I'll put up some pictures with a comparison later on

they did!
I sold a set to someone in california years ago
they were only available for less than 3 years during the mid 90s, this is why they are so rare... you can find some proof that it exists in the mazdaspeed lantis catalogue rupe posted in that sticky thread... doesn't it fully show which version of BA it is for unlike the full mazdaspeed catalogue, but it's proof nonetheless

they all were olive green and so since his bar is covered in crap, he didn't notice! it should get a good bath so that it will look nice again

the front sway bar is 26mm and rear is 20mm for the 1.8 BA, while 28mm was meant for the V6
they utilise mazdaspeed bushes of course, which are harder rubber

before the bar is measured, it really must be cleaned well before that is done as any build up will cause errors

thanks for all the info theMAN
and this badge here could have something to do with why I have one

woohoo!

you can still buy those badges new today. mazda must have made 1000s of those.

would be good to get my hands on one of those front swaybars.

i've never thought 20mm for the rear is big enough. i current have and have had a 20mm on the back for 8ish years.

will have try my bj to ba rear conversion sometime soonish.

project.r.racing 25-11-2013 09:57 AM

secondry question. is 27mm on the front too over the top having only a 20mm on the rear? cos i got 24/20 and i think 20 rear isn't big enough.

what was the reason mazdaspped dropped the bar from their lineup?
