BG BA 323 Ignition Switch Recall (Aus)

Just noticed on the Australian Recall website there's a recall for the BG and BA 323s concerning the ignition switch:
https://www.recalls.gov.au/content/i...itemId/1078603

Date: 28 Oct 2015

Models: Mazda 323 (BG10**) Sedan and Hatch, Mazda 323 (BA10**) Sedan and Hatch (and other models too)

Subject: Ignition switch - possible fire hazard.

Affects: A wide list of VINs and I'm guessing it wouldn't be limited to Australian models only so it may be worth others having a look.

Shows how seriously they take it if they're only just publishing recalls for vehicles 20-25 years old now!

What should consumers do?
Mazda Australia will contact all affected customers by mail as soon as parts become available
to present their vehicle to their preferred Mazda Dealer for the replacement of the ignition switch
at no charge.
Highlighted areas after 20+ years ???????

Good luck with that !!

I remember seeing it last year. My first thought was that current owners wouldn't care at all.

I'm not sure how many old greases would combust from a small electrical spark. I didn't even go out to the car and check. It is the stupidest recall I have ever seen.

Well there is this - lol

A/C module nearly caused a fire !

They took their time - I just got my letter in the mail from Mazda today inviting me to get a new ignition switch fitted, free of charge of course.

It's probably already happened to someone, and it only takes one freak occurrence in the wrong context to contribute to one or more road deaths. It's worth considering how much Toyota have had to pay out over their sticky accelerator pedals - over USD $2 Billion by my estimate.

Same, I only got mine this week.
